So You Think You Can Dance Season 5
Written by: JohnFOX has announced that So You Think You Can Dance 5 will premiere on May 21. Fox’s top summer series will premiere its fifth season of So You Think You Can Dance on a Thursday. The premiere will run for two hours and will be followed by another two-hour episode on Wednesday, May 27.
I’m sad to say that Mary Murphy is back as a judge. Nigel will be back as a judge as well which is just fine with me. Of course, we are all happy that Cat Deeley will be back to host the show.
Auditions for the show are still going on with dates in Denver (March 12), Memphis, Tenn. (March 16) and Seattle (March 28). Check out my recent post for more details on the So You Think You Can Dance auditions. It has dates, times, locations and other details you’ll need to know to audition for So You Think You Can Dance.
May still feels like a long way away, but I’m glad that we’re at least close enough to know a date for the premiere of So You Think You Can Dance 2009. Anyone else excited for SYTYCD 5?

A Message For Nigel Lythgoe and So You Think You Can Dance
Written by: JohnI recently received the following message that was addressed. Since, I’m not Nigel and I don’t have any relationship with the show (this is just a SYTYCD fan site) I decided that I’d post the message here so that hopefully Nigel will stop on by and read this message.
Dear Nigel,
I’m writing b/c I auditioned for SYTYCD in NY, and I was terribly offended by the judges. I made it through the 2-3 preliminary auditions with flying colors b/c I came with something different than what they had seen all day.I was dressed in African garb and West African dance is my forte. The audition I did for you showed my versatility choreographed with African, hip-hop and contemporary movement. You & the other judges commented on my face, not smiling enough like South African dance, (which is different from West African being the dances that made it through the Middle Passage and among the African Diaspora, including So. America), then you commented on my beautiful long arms, and the hip-hop couple judges admitted they contradicted themselves when they said they wanted something original & versatile but then commented on my outfit and said because of it I should;ve stuck with just African.
The worse part was that by the time you guys see it, the only people who get denied are the people who really can’t dance; anyone showing even a little potential get at least sent to choreography. You just sent me away like I couldn’t dance at all, and I am a trained dancer; I should’ve at least had the opportunity to show I knew other styles as well, like my audition demonstrated.
The truth is SYTYCD is not ready for African dance, none of the judges that day could critique it, the show does not have African choreographers so my forte would get danced by everyone, in spite of the fact that hip-hop, krump, and many of the Latin dancers come from African dance, and sometimes African movement is choroegraphed in the dances done.
I wouldn’t have felt so bad if you just admitted that, instead of making it seem like I couldn’t dance at all. I know my audition will not be shown on the show because SYTYCD is not ready to introduce African dance, and you should’ve just said that.
Maybe one day you’ll get African choreographers and make it a part of the show, (like you did Bolliwood) and when you do, remember me, [REMOVED],( like [REMOVED], my favorite choreographer), I’ll be back, and I’m sure a lot of other fabulous dancers who can take dance from its roots to all the others dances originated from it.
Looove the show & I’ll keep watching!
[Name Removed] Bronx, N.Y.
Let me know what you think about this So You Think You Can Dance audition experience in the comments.

Lacey Scwhimmer, Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin on Dancing with the Stars
Written by: JohnMost people already know that Lacey Schwimmer was on last season’s Dancing with the Stars. In fact, Lacey Schwimmer did really well last year making it to the final 3 with star Lance Bass as her partner. Lacey did an excellent job full of edgy routines and her signature semi-rebellious style.
This year, Lacey Schwimmer will be back again on Dancing with the Stars and this season she’ll be paired with Steve-O. Yes, it is indeed that Steve-O. This should be really interesting to see. I’m sure the producers of the show saw the irony of the “bad girl” being paired with Steve-O. This should be interesting to see what Steve-O is like on the prim and proper ballroom dance floor.
This season of Dancing with the Stars also announced Chelise Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin joining the show as professional dancers. They’ll both be part of a main storyline of couples since they’re dancing with married couple Ty Murray and Jewel respectively. This should be interesting for Chelsie and Dmitry. Of course, who wouldn’t want to watch Dmitry Chaplin dancing beside Jewel? Sounds like a match made in heaven. Plus, I think we’re certain to see more of shirtless Dmitry as well.
Check out my introduction of Chelsie and Dmitry to Dancing with the Stars fans. It’s kind of fun to see the cross over between the 2 shows. Like I heard Nigel say, “these kids have got to work.”

Video of Brandon Norris (Tap Boy) on ABDC
Written by: JohnBrandon Norris was a huge feature on the SYTYCD 3 tryouts and then performed in the finale of SYTYCD is now a member of the Dynamic Edition crew on America’s Best Dance Crew. I could only find a couple of videos of Brandon Norris and his harem of ladies on ABDC, but it’s pretty cool that they’re able to bring a crew as unique as there’s to ABDC. Too bad he couldn’t make it on SYTYCD.

SYTYCD Alumni Dominic, Hok and Ryan on ABDC
Written by: JohnSYTYCD season 1’s Ryan Conferido and SYTYCD season 3’s Hok Konishi and Dominic Sandoval are all apart of the Quest Crew on ABDC on MTV. This crew has been tearing it up. I personally think they were by far the best crew the first week of ABDC and they haven’t let up all season.
In case you missed the videos, check out Quest Crew on ABDC.

So You Think You Can Dance Dancers on ABDC
Written by: JohnMan I’ve been meaning to post this for a while, and just never got around to it. Hopefully you’ll forgive me. Anyway, has anyone noticed all the past members of So You Think You Can Dance on the ABDC stage? SYTYCD season 1’s Ryan Conferido and SYTYCD season 3’s Hok Konishi and Dominic Sandoval are all apart of the Quest Crew. The names Hok and Dominic should be familiar to you. Dominic and Cat’s interaction is one of my favorite SYTYCD storylines ever.
Someone who many people might not recognize is Brandon Norris of Dynamic Edition who was heavily featured during the season 3 try-outs of SYTYCD and performed at the season finale. A killer tapper that really surprised me when I saw him on ABDC. Talk about a ladies man. I’m certain he’s made hundreds of guys want to tap. Talk about numbers.
Of course, we all know that Shane Sparks is also from SYTYCD and is a judge on ABDC.
So Far Quest Crew and Dynamic Edition have done really well on the show. However, now the competition is getting much harder. Should be fun to watch them. I know that Hok and Dominic are 2 of the best performers that have ever graced the SYTYCD stage.
Over the next couple days I’ll try and find and post the videos from Quest and Dynamic Edition for all to enjoy the SYTYCD Alum.

So You Think You Can Dance Live Studio Audience Tickets
Written by: JohnI often get questions about how people can be apart of the So You Think You Can Dance Live Studio Audience. Turns out it’s really easy. All you need to do is go to this website and fill out the form to get your name added to the waitlist.
Once you’re on the waitlist you have a chance of getting tickets to the show. The website says the show is on hiatus so I’m not sure what will happen if you sign up now. I imagine it couldn’t hurt.
The show is taped in CBS Television City in Hollywood. There’s a nice little parking structure in the back at “The Grove” mall thing. It’s a swanky little place that’s fun to visit after the taping. It also has a cheesecake factory but was really crowded when I was there. It’s also interesting that this is the same location that Dancing with the Stars tapes. That’s why I know so much about it.
Anyway, the best reason to go to the show has got to be the opportunity to see Cat Deeley up close. The worst reason to go is because you’ll have to listen to Mary Murphy scream up close.
Check out all the So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 auditions.

I just read an interview with Shane Sparks on Zap2It where he’s asked if he’s going to be back on the next season of So You Think You Can Dance. Here’s the question and Shane Spark’s response:
Now that this season is happening separately from when So You Think You Can Dance is airing, are you gonna be able to do some work with them this season?
We’re working on it right now, trying to get me in more this season, get me on camera for some of the show.Judging?
Yeah.
It’s unfortunate that Shane won’t be doing choreography for the show. I’d much rather have him doing choreography than judging, but if he’s able to replace Mary Murphy at the judges table, then I’ll be happy.
