I found the following image on photobucket and I think it’s a really iconic image for those of us that are fans of So You Think You Can Dance:
Travis and Heidi Bench Dance on SYTYCD

I think the Travis and Heidi bench dance is one of many that will live forever in the minds of SYTYCD fans. I love the black and white that makes it almost feel like it will last forever.

Seeing it made me think that it would look cool on a t-shirt. Only problem is it probably violates some sort of trademark, copyright, etc. So, I don’t think I can do that. However, the thought sparked an idea of creating some cool SYTYCD related t-shirts, hoodies, hats, etc.

I have some ideas in mind and you’ll be seeing them soon, but I’d love to hear any ideas of designs, sayings, etc you’d love to have in your closet.

i think a hot tamale train tshirt is in order. im thinking…..a train appearing as if its coming out of the shirt but instead of the cars being cars, they are tamales….on train wheels, etc. and since these are HOT tamales….there would have to be some sort of indication that they are hot….like steam or some sweet flames. but i like the idea of still shots of favorite past dances. merch with logos on it would be cool too.

      kayla,
I love the hot tamale train idea. Should it have words or just the train to leave people asking? Maybe one of each?

Still shots from dances would be great. Only problem is that the images from the show are copyrighted and so I think we’d get taken down for that. Same goes for logos and possibly even the names of dancers. However, I’m pretty sure Benjelle (or names like that) aren’t covered in copyright.

nah, names are allowed… Fans have been publishing fan merch on cafepress for years… Just search something big, like Twilight on Cafepress and you’ll see tons of stuff that’s allowed… Like, I think if you create the graphic yourself, it’s allowed… Cause I’ve seen people use the apple, wolf, and other things that are big trademark things from the book/movie… But they are graphics they created with either a program, or drew them themselves.. But names are definetely allowed.. Cafepress is full of fan-merch… AI stuff, DWTS stuff, and probably once SYTYCD starts up again, people will start making and selling SYTYCD merch on there…

So, check out cafepress.com and see everything fan’s on there have used, Lot’s more than you’d think is actually allowed…

      Chrystine,
Interesting information. I think you’re actually right about the names of the people on SYTYCD. I forgot I was also looking at merchandise for Dancing with the Stars. Often the stars have their name trademarked. Since these dancers on SYTYCD are newly famous it shouldn’t be a problem. Thanks for pointing it out.

I’ll still be careful with images from the show and even the words So You Think You Can Dance.

Zazzle also seems to be more liberal than CafePress. Possibly because they’re newer. We’ll be adding more items to our store soon: http://www.zazzle.com/puretvnetwork*
