As I’ll be doing throughout the season, I plan on posting all of the So You Think You Can Dance 2009 music. So far the music from this season has been amazing and I don’t expect that to change. However, the Las Vegas week music is sometimes harder to figure out than other weeks. So, I’m posting this early so that people can leave comments as they figure out the various music from So You Think You Can Dance Las Vegas week episode 1. I plan on updating this post throughout the night.

As a side note while you wait for the start of SYTYCD, Ash Koley’s “Don’t Let Your Feet Touch Ground” Ash Koley - Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground - Single - Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground is now on iTunes for those who wanted to download the song, but it wasn’t available.

Closing Montage showing the final solo performances was to the song “Shot Away” (Buy Single on Amazon) by Pawn Shop (Although many people say this sounds a lot like “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed - Gimme Shelter, the words are close but not the same)

During the end credits was the song “Dance With Me” Old 97's - Blame It on Gravity - Dance With Me by Old 97s

**I counted up the number of different pieces of music on tonight’s episode and I counted 83 pieces of music. Granted a number of the songs were used a couple times and some of it was just background music that no one cares about, but that’s still a lot of music. I guess it’s hard to do much dance without music.

Hi! There was a nice song on the show tonight when Natalie was leaving – simple lyrics, just a guy and piano. Some of the lyrics were “When it’s time to leave, don’t grieve.” Can’t find it online, can you help me?

    2. # Kpk commented on June 3rd, 2009:

During the group dances – what was the slow song some of the groups were dancing to? It was a woman’s voice…sorry I don’t remember more specifics.

    3. # Autumn commented on June 3rd, 2009:

It was when she was hugging the cute black guy she had befriended and saying good bye to him.

    4. # Bill commented on June 3rd, 2009:

To add to the 2nd comment by “Kpk”……i caught the lyrics “save me” by the woman singing….it was kind of a contemporary style of a song.

    5. # Autumn commented on June 3rd, 2009:

To Kpk, the song you are referring to may be Four Women Nina Simone - The Best of Nina Simone - Four Women by Nina Somone. Hope this helps…and sorry for so many posts :)

    6. # Lizz commented on June 3rd, 2009:

It was surprising to hear Waltz #2 Elliott Smith - XO - Waltz, No. 2 (XO) by Elliott Smith during the ballroom montage. It’s not exactly a dance song, but is probably one of the best songs ever written.

    31. # Jenn commented on June 3rd, 2009:

I’m totally interested in the solo dance montage song at the end of the show….with lyrics that sounded something like “i’m on my way” or “i’m having my way” or something.

it was upbeat, and it’s driving me nuts.

    32. # So You Think You can Dance commented on June 3rd, 2009:

You’re awesome for posting these amazing music. The music on tonight’s episodes were just beautiful

    33. # xkwyzit1 commented on June 3rd, 2009:

I don’t think the song with the lyrics “going nowhere save me” is the Emmy Rossum song although it does sound pretty close. I looked up the lyrics and it doesn’t contain the “..going nowhere” part.

    34. # Rob commented on June 3rd, 2009:

    41. # John commented on June 3rd, 2009:

      trista and rent,
Mia’s choreography was to the song “Belief” (Stripped Version) Gavin DeGraw - Chariot - Stripped - Belief by Gavin DeGraw I believe.

    42. # PAMMIE KEYS commented on June 3rd, 2009:

      WOOOO !! FOUND IT !!
the “running in circles” “save me” “going nowhere” song is called Slow Me Down Emmy Rossum - Inside Out - Slow Me Down by Emmy Rossum

    43. # John commented on June 3rd, 2009:

It definitely know there were multiple songs for Mia’s choreography. It looks like the second song used for Mia’s choreography was Mia’s choreography? was to the song “Slow Me Down” Emmy Rossum - Inside Out - Slow Me Down by Emmy Rossum

One was by a guy (listed above as Gavin) and the other a girl (Emmy). Let me know if this isn’t right.

Hey i posted ^..Can anyone help me out please..its really bothering me…=(

    45. # John commented on June 3rd, 2009:

      Chris,
We’re all working to figure it out. Sometimes it takes a little patience. I counted about 83 different sets of music on the show tonight. That’s a lot of music from one show. Some of it was background and a few were used a couple times, but still a lot of music. I’m sure we’ll figure out the most important ones.

Also, as a side note for others visiting this page. The page is getting slammed and so it’s cached heavily. That basically means that when you post a comment it may take a little bit to finally clear the cache and display your comment. Have no fear, your comments will appear.

Ok, back to my search for more music.

    46. # Chris commented on June 3rd, 2009:

o wait..i think it was a “gimme shelter” dance remix..someone have the name of it? pleaseee

    47. # John commented on June 3rd, 2009:

Ok, someone has to be able to figure out which version of “Gimme Shelter” was used for the final montage of solos.

We know the original was done by The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed - Gimme Shelter and that’s not it.

So, here’s a list of other choices from iTunes:
Grand Funk Grand Funk - Survival - Gimme Shelter
Patti Smith Patti Smith - Gimme Shelter - Single - Gimme Shelter
Grand Funk Railroad Grand Funk Railroad - Caught In the Act - Gimme Shelter
Kathy Mattea Kathy Mattea - Right Out of Nowhere - Gimme Shelter
Tim Ries and Lisa Fischer Tim Ries & Lisa Fischer - The Rolling Stones Project - Gimme Shelter
Holy Soldier Holy Soldier - Last Train - Gimme Shelter
The Hellacopters The Hellacopters - Cream of the Crap! Volume 1 - Gimme Shelter
The Goo Goo Dolls The Goo Goo Dolls - Jed - Gimme Shelter
Ashley Cleveland Ashley Cleveland - You Are There - Gimme Shelter
The Reds The Reds - Cry Tomorrow - Gimme Shelter
      T.S.O.L. T.S.O.L. - Hell and Back Together 1984 - 1990 - Gimme Shelter
Wild Horses Wild Horses - Rolling Stones Instrumental Renditions - Gimme Shelter
Thunder Thunder - Their Finest Hour (And a Bit) - Gimme Shelter
Zwarte Zwarté - Loud American - Gimme Shelter
Girl on Top Girl On Top - Cherry Blossoms - Gimme Shelter
Carla Whitney Carla Whitney - Choker Campbell & The Super Sounds - Gimme Shelter

Ok, that’s enough options. Anyone have the time to go through the list and see?

    48. # Rob commented on June 3rd, 2009:

Does anyone recall the name of the song (played on tonight’s Las Vegas show) that was released a few years ago with vocals sounding a lot like Avril Lavigne, and lyrics sounding something like “you remind me that i’m not alone”?

    49. # HDS1950 commented on June 3rd, 2009:

John, I checked through all the Gimme Shelters on iTunes twice and the one on SYTYCD is not one of them.

    50. # John commented on June 3rd, 2009:

      HDS1950,
You’re awesome. Sounds like we’re going to have to hope for a miracle to figure out the version of “Gimme Shelter” We’ve had a few miracles in the past in finding the music on this site, so I hope it happens again.

    51. # HDS1950 commented on June 3rd, 2009:

thanks John. Have also searched through Google and did a search on Limewire…..no luck so far and it’s driving me crazy. LOVED IT!

    52. # JohnD commented on June 3rd, 2009:

I think the problem is that the song only uses a section of the chorus of Gimme Shelter, so it’s a song by a different name. These are the NON – Gimme Shelter lyrics I picked up, if that helps to find the correct song. (thank you TiVo!)

“Yeah, if I find a way,
      thngs will seem OK
      If I find a way
it’s almost time, it’s just a shot away

      grab it while you can
      take it in your hand
make it what you will and sing a song”

    53. # JohnD commented on June 4th, 2009:

Woohoo!! Found the song with the Gimme Shelter chorus!! It’s called “Shot Away” (Buy Single on Amazon) by Pawn Shop.

    54. # Jex commented on June 4th, 2009:

NONE of them sound anything like it.

The only one even remotely close was Kathy Mattea.

Could it possibly be a remix?

    55. # Jex commented on June 4th, 2009:

I am always so slow to the party. Ha ha.

      Thanks John D!

Last night when the “Nerds” did the group dance they played a song that was Hip Hop/ Pop; Lyrics were something like “Ive been waiting all night to dance with you”. What is this song? Ive looked everywhere and cant find it.

    66. # skl6196 commented on June 4th, 2009:

“Boom Boom Pow” Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow - Single - Boom Boom Pow was Tabitha and Napoleon’s choreography – not Sonya’s. Sonya’s choreography was to “Great DJ” The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing - Great DJ by The Ting Tings.

    67. # pbashe commented on June 4th, 2009:

an elimination song -something about “you slam the door” “something that I did wrong today” “your minds made up” “sorry won’t be quite enough” that’s all the lyrics I could catch. Any ideas on what is was?

    68. # John commented on June 4th, 2009:

      skl6196,
Thanks for the corrections. I wasn’t sure on a couple of them and that’s why I put a ? by it. Now I’ve heard it 2 places and so I’ve updated the page to the correct songs with the correct people.

Keep the music coming if you know something that’s not listed.

      Thanks!

What was the name of the song when the group of six were dancing. Nigel said that one of the guys was the after and one of the woman was the before. At the end, when all six made it, the asain guy broke down in tears. It sounded something like Enya or Sarah McLaughlin would sing.

Who sings that “To Make You Feel My Love”…it was about 3/4 the way through the show when the SISTER had to dance for her life by herself. It was a woman singing it and VERY VERY good!!!

hey I was just wondering if anyone knows the name of the song they played during the montage where they were telling the people they didn’t make it. The only lyrics I caught were “I want to hold you forever.” It was sung by a guy and he was playing the guitar, the song was slow too if that helps.

Lyrics from the chorus that played several times:
“Oh, tonight, you arrested my mind. When you came to my defense. With a knife in the shape of your mouth, in the form of your body, with the wrath of a god. Oh, you stood by me, belief.

I don’t know if America had this song broadcast, but it played in australia when the season 5 guys were doing their final solos (during the montage) before Kat Deeley appeared from behind the curtain, to tell the guys to go in 1 by 1 to see if they made it into the Top 20. (we believe “Shot away” by Pawn SHop was played in America at this time).
As HANNA said, they lyrics we heard were something like this:

      “Will you be there
      when I come back home
      when I get back home

      Will you be there
      ’cause my biggest fear
is that you won’t be waiting

We’ve put it into google and we just keep getting the michael jackson song. IT IS NOT THE MICHAEL JACKSON SONG.

Does anyone have a song out there with these exact words in it? Because no lyric finder or google search can find it!
I can send you guys an Mp3 of that exact moment. I was able to record it through the sound recorder on my iPhone.

Send me an email with SYTYCD in the subject, and I’ll forward it onto you. ros_rulz@hotmail.com

The above song that Jen has posted lyrics too…….
This song was only aired in Australia. America would have heard a different song during this montage. It was the montage just before the host (Kat) appeared from the a black curtin to send the contestants in one by one to find out if they were in the top 12.

I heard around the web, there were copyright issues with the song that was played in America, to it was edited when played in Australia, and they just wacked this song you are trying to find.

I’ll also send it to another contact I have that might know how to figure it out.

If you can also let me know the date it aired, which episode, things like that it will help.

    166. # Jen commented on October 27th, 2009:

Well, the air date I can’t tell for sure because I’m watching the show in Europe and I don’t know if the dates match with the rest of the world.
But I do know that I was watching the Las Vegas episode, and the song I’m looking for is the song that played at the closing montage showing the final solo performances. Apparently in USA the song was “Shot Away” by Pawn Shop. But in the Australia version it was different. Unfortunately I didn’t have the change to copy the song to my ipod. Ross if you have the song in audio, would you please help John listen to it.
This is driving me crazy man, it’s such a pity not being able to listen to that song…

      Thanks John

      I have done just that.

      Calling out,
Are you saying that there are other blogs and forums that have a better list of SYTYCD music than this site?

Just kidding. We’re far from perfect on this site. So, if you can find the answer on another site, that’s great with us. Just please come back and tell us since we try our best to figure out as much SYTYCD music as we can on this site.

      Thanks!

      Eriol,
I think this is the list of music that we figured out from the episode in question: http://www.puresytycd.com/2009/06/03/so-you-think-you-can-dance-las-vegas-week-music-episode-1/ Hopefully one of the songs listed for Mia is the one you’re looking for.

    182. # Eriol commented on February 15th, 2010:

Thx for the reply john but i’ve heard every single song on that list, and it isnt any of those, i belive its the same song Adrian and Zeelia are looking for aswell.
