Now that we’re finally down to the So You Think You Can Dance top 10, it’s time to start looking at the dancers as individuals and not as couples. So, it only seems appropriate to post a poll asking which of the So You Think You Can Dance 2009 Top 10 is your favorite dancer? You can only vote one time for one dancer, but the results should be really interesting.

Too early to choose for me! I need to see more. I remember last season, I had favorites that changed after seeing some other pairings/dances. So I can’t vote yet!

    2. # John commented on July 9th, 2009:

      Gretchen,
I don’t remember seeing Not Voting as an option on the poll;-)

    3. # buggy commented on July 10th, 2009:

No specific favourite now. But I voted for Janette anyway.

      List of favourites:
      - Janette
      - Brandon
      - Melissa
      - Ade

      Top 10!

    4. # Sara commented on July 10th, 2009:

      I can’t decide on a Favorite, maybe top 5…
Evan, Kayla, Kupono, Randi, Jeanine and Ade is a close runner up!

But I certainly know who my LEAST favorite is…
JANETTE! I can’t stand her. I want her to shut her mouth! Why does she have to dance with her mouth WIDE open? She just drives me crazy!

    5. # beth commented on July 10th, 2009:

Here’s my list of favorites as of today…this is def subject to change!

      Melissa Sandvig
      Jeanine Mason
      Ade Obayomi
      Randi Evans
      Jason Glover
      Evan Kasprzak
      Kupono Aweau
      Brandon Bryant
      Janette Manrara
      Kayla Radomski

I think Brandon’s an amazing dancer, but he’s not my fave. (Same with Janette and Kayla, etc.) I think Jeanine has got the star power to kill it on this show…I really do. And I think Melissa can do ANYTHING.

      Yay for top 10!!!

    6. # Chelsea commented on July 10th, 2009:

I voted for Evan as my favourite dancer although I know he’s not tecnically the most capable. However, the two I absolutely want in the top four are Brandon and Jeanine. I’ve also adored Kupono since the dummies routine, and I think that Kayla and Janette are wonderful to watch, which I guess means I have more favourites than I do least favourites!

    7. # Jeannie commented on July 10th, 2009:

I like Jenette, she is probably not a “formally” trained dancer which makes it even more amazing at how well she does all the different dances within such a short time to learn and practice.

    8. # John commented on July 10th, 2009:

      beth,
You killed me. I laughed so hard when I saw your list of favorites.

      Jeannie,
That’s a good point about Janette. Salsa training is different from many of the other dance styles I think.

    9. # Dawn commented on July 10th, 2009:

I’ve been an Ade fan from week 1. He is wonderful, and one of the better male dancers we have left.

Since Kupono has been paired with Kayla, I have grown to love him so much! I don’t think he’s technically proficient enough to go the distance, but his personality and heart have completely won me over. I love his spirit.

My favorite routines of the season are all of Kayla & Kupono’s, especially the addiction piece from this week.

    10. # Kels commented on July 10th, 2009:

Wow … Kupono has more fans then I thought. I still voted for Kayla ^^

    11. # beth commented on July 10th, 2009:

Hey, John…don’t laugh at me! ;-)

It is called “America’s FAVORITE dancer” right?

      lol

    12. # John commented on July 10th, 2009:

I wasn’t laughing at you my dear Beth. I was complimenting you for making me laugh. If it wasn’t so true, then I wouldn’t have laughed nearly as hard.

Also, this thread isn’t America’s Favorite dancer. It’s “Beth’s (or insert name) Favorite dancer.”

    13. # Jackie commented on July 10th, 2009:

Brandon is the best dancer by far, and I absolutely love Janette. She surprised me with her ability to excel in so many styles.

    14. # beth commented on July 10th, 2009:

      John, touche.

It is “insert name’s” favorite dancer.

And a great thread idea it is. I love this site. lol

    15. # Stephanie commented on July 10th, 2009:

If I had to pick just one dancer right now, I would choose Jeanine. I wasn’t a fan at first, but I think she adapts to any style as if it were her own. I also think her solos are absolutely gorgeous, with really interesting choreography (and I think is super hard to make an interesting 30-second dance). That said, I don’t dislike anybody in the top 10. :)

    16. # moviebuff commented on July 10th, 2009:

My favourite is Jeanine. Can they please pair her up with Brandon and give them Contemporary already! Please Please Please don’t let her get Allison-ed, let alone Kherington-ed. The thought of that might be too unbearable.

    17. # John commented on July 10th, 2009:

      moviebuff,
The crazy thing is I know exactly what you mean by Allison-ed and Kherington-ed I think I’m going to have to make some new t-shirt designs with that on it for my SYTYCD store: http://www.zazzle.com/puretvnetwork*

    18. # buggy commented on July 11th, 2009:

Ah. If someone’s allison-ed or kherington-ed again, i’m going to scream. But i think every season has it allisoning and kheringtoning. Let’s hope america’s wiser this season. :D If not, it’s the show’s and america’s loss. >.<

    19. # buggy commented on July 11th, 2009:

      favourites:
      Janette Manrara
      Melissa Sandvig
      Brandon Bryant
      Ade Obayomi
      Jeanine Mason
      Jason Glover
      Kupono Aweau
      Randi Evans
      Evan Kasprzak
      Kayla Radomski

      :D DDD

    20. # buggy commented on July 12th, 2009:

and i had no idea that Kupono’s such a favourite. and i’m assuming that the poll is credible, and that no one sits at the computer for a few hours continuously voting for him. :D haha.

i hope it’s not solely based on his life story this week. As much as i love dancers to reveal a little of their lives and be true, i hate sympathy points. :D so i really hope that’s based on his dancing and personality merits, and i’m assuming it is.

as for me, janette’s still my favourite on the show now karla’s gone. because she’s such a funloving and lively person. she’s a beautiful spirit on the show. hope she stays long. kayla has to work her way into my heart, i guess. >.<

    21. # Juleyah commented on July 12th, 2009:

      My top four are now:

      Jeanine
      Kupono
      Kayla
      Ade

(not ranked list, I like them all equally but for different reasons)

    22. # anonymous commented on July 12th, 2009:

I’m going to sleepaway this week and can’t vote! Someone please cast a few extra votes for jeanine for me!!! thanks a bunch!

    23. # John commented on July 12th, 2009:

      buggy,
This isn’t designed to be a perfect or scientifically accurate poll. However, there are some precautions to make it so people don’t vote hundreds of times. Like I said, it’s not meant to be perfect at preventing this, but you have to try to vote a lot of times.

Also, this poll is influenced by the readers of my blog. For example, I get a lot of searches for Kayla and so it’s likely that Kayla’s votes are a little higher than what they might have been since people searching for Kayla are probably fans of Kayla. Things like that skew the numbers, but in the past the polls have been relatively accurate.

    24. # buggy commented on July 13th, 2009:

      ah. i see.

    25. # Erin commented on July 13th, 2009:

I was wondering, does anyone know how their picking the new partners ? and does it change every week?

In the past i know that this is how they did it, but this season seems more scripted to me for some reason. For example, Melissa getting the Pas De Deux, Romeo and Juliet piece. I mean it could have been a coincidence, but i just find it hard to believe.

A part of me hopes they don’t leave the partnering up to chance, because some people would just look very weird dancing together to me. Can anyone picture Evan and Janette together?? I know I can’t.

    26. # John commented on July 13th, 2009:

      Erin,
I haven’t seen anything really confirmed as to the process. Cat talks about the hat that they draw the partners/styles out of. However, for the styles I’ve read things that talk about 2 different hats that they draw out of. I don’t really know. I’d love to get to the bottom of it, because like you said there are far too many matchups for it to really be left up to a completely random draw.

    27. # beth commented on July 13th, 2009:

I’ve read comments by people who went to the top 10+ shows in years past, and they said that, though we see film of each dancer pulling a name out, in reality, in between each draw, one name and one name only is inserted into the hat. So, the matches are “random” inasmuch as they probably have all of the potential matches thought up and randomly choose one pair for each dancer each week (jsut to make sure there are no overlaps). But this is a tv show, so I imagine it’s in the producer’s best interest to create interesting pairs.

In terms of dance style, I’ve never seen anything to suggest that wasn’t random. For Melissa and the pas de deux, for instance, if it were another dancer, it likely would have been danced in flats, and not en pointe. Just my opinion, anyhow.

    28. # buggy commented on July 15th, 2009:

i just hope that the top 6 or top 4 are not all contemporary dancers. that’ll suck. :(
this season’s a little dry on variety.
