What is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ade should definitely be in the top 4. Love Evan, but no way, absolutely no way.

    3. # Kelsey commented on July 30th, 2009:

I think its funny how Nigel said this was when Mark and Chealse left last seaon and they were a couple and now Melissa and Ade left at the same time. It was cuteeee.

    4. # Kelsey commented on July 30th, 2009:

So happy I am not typing right. Sorry.

    5. # Tracey commented on July 30th, 2009:

Omg I hope Brandon or Kayla win! And I’m happy for Jeanine too, but why is Evan still there?

    6. # Laurabo commented on July 30th, 2009:

WHY OH WHY IS EVAN STILL THERE??? THAT IS THE QUESTION AND IT’S A BIG ONE!! Ade should not have left before Evan. guess it’s like American Idol last year when the fans kept the guy that couldn’t sing on. no way figuring out why people vote the way they do.

    7. # Ronnica commented on July 30th, 2009:

Perfect top 4. I would probably have preferred Janette to Kayla, but I still think Kayla is good there. I’m excited to see Evan and Jeanine dance next week!!!!

    8. # Ronnica commented on July 30th, 2009:

Laurabo: Probably because people like me vote for him. It’s NOT the same as voting for someone who can’t sing on Idol…Evan CAN dance, he’s just not the best on the show. Yet, that’s not what the show’s looking for is it? He’s my favorite because of his dancing, charm, and performance qualities!

    9. # Amanda commented on July 30th, 2009:

Nigel said it best they are ALL already winners. I had a feeling that Evan would edge out Ade. As for who will win the title my vote is for Jeanine.

Loved seeing all four of the emmy nominated dances again. Love Chelsie and Mark they were my favorites last year.

On a side note I would love to see the dancers all so the same choreographed number for a solo…like in season 3…radom thought.

    10. # Kelsey commented on July 30th, 2009:

Amanda: Me too, I would have loved to see them do the same solo choreography like they did to Waiting On The World To Change with the top 10 of season 3.

    11. # Erin commented on July 30th, 2009:

Evan is a remarkable dancer. But it’s not all about technique. Evan brings an amazing personality to dance and is completely individual when he hits the stage. Brandon and Ade were too similar in styles and type to really compare. But to have someone as wonderful and charming as Ev on the finale? Now that’s a show I will watch. I voted for him not only because he’s a friend, but because I think he is a great dancer who works his butt off to prove why he’s there. He gets slammed every week for minor things, but he can lift women like it’s his job, and his smile lights up a room. Congrats, Kazz. I’m so happy you made it!

    12. # Lauren commented on July 30th, 2009:

      I LOVE JEANINE!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    13. # Jennifer commented on July 30th, 2009:

Evan is in!!!!!!! Evan is in!!!!!!! I have never before voted in my years of watching the show until now, but there’s just something about him. Erin summed it up well. I smile when he dances, and he just inspires me. I realize he may not do that for everyone, but he’s my favorite dancer.

I’m happy with the four remaining, although I would have really liked to have seen Jeanette up there. :( Kayla is good, but I don’t think she’s a mature performer yet, although she is technically stunning. So I think I personally would have liked to see Jeanette and Janine in the final four. But Kayla would be my next pick.

Great show. I’m so loving that they’re reshowing Emmy winning stuff and viewer favorites.

    14. # Chelsea commented on July 30th, 2009:

Very happy with the top 4. I would have been okay with Ade instead of Evan but personally I prefer Evan even though he isn’t the best dancer on the show. Thank you America for getting it right (besides the Janette shake-up anyway) this year!

It was really nice to see Chelsie and Mark again. I loved Mark so much, he wasn’t the most technically trained but the guy could do everything they threw at him and was wonderfully quirky.

    15. # Jackie commented on July 30th, 2009:

I’m totally thrilled for Brandon. He’s a wonderful young man who has worked hard for years to get to this point and has helped many other dancers along the way. Thank you America for voting for him even though he’s kind of shy in front of the cameras except when he’s dancing. The show is about dancing, after all, and you got it right. I preferred Ade to Evan and Janette to Jeanine, but all in all I’m thrilled with the final 4 – especially since Brandon is in it.

    16. # Laurabo commented on July 30th, 2009:

@Ronica, but it is about dancing and not just his Broadway. He is good at broadway but that’s about all, he’s not really that good in the other styles. Ade could outdance him just as Jeanette could outdance Kayla, but people have voted so be it. Just hope everyone votes right this week.

    17. # beth commented on July 30th, 2009:

      1. I loved that they finally brought those dances back–this is what I wanted the 100th episode to look like. Lots of great dancing! Thank goodness.

      2. So happy for Jeanine! I love her. Hope (now) that she wins it all. She’s by far the most dynamic and versatile dancer left, IMO.

      3. Totally bummed about the rest of it. I am totally ambivalent about the other three in the top 4, and would have preferred to keep Ade and Melissa in, in exchange for Evan and Kayla. Grr is my only comment on that. I will be watching with muted excitement next week, considering my fav guy (after Jason) and my fav girl are now gone.

      4. If Evan wins, I’ll be sorely disappointed. More disappointed than I was when Benji beat Travis in season 2.

      The end. ;-)

    18. # Jackie commented on July 30th, 2009:

I’m totally thrilled for Brandon. He worked hard all his life to get to this point and helped many other dancers along the way. He’s a truly fine young man. Thanks America for voting for Brandon even though he’s somewhat shy in front of the cameras except when he’s dancing.

    19. # Tanaya commented on July 30th, 2009:

In spite what I’m calling the Top Eight Tragedy, I’m pleased with the final four. I think that while Ade was a great technical dancer, he was always overshadowed by his partners and I was done with Melissa before Vegas week hahaha. My ideal top four would be Janette, Jeanine, Brandon, and Jason, but I’ll take this one.

I’m pulling for Jeanine. She has the best combination of heart, personality, and technique and she is the first girl since Sabra that I actually wanted to win. I feel like in the eyes of America this season is a Girl’s season, so hopefully things will work out in Jeanine’s favor!

    20. # Chelsea commented on July 30th, 2009:

There is no question that Evan has a charming personality and is a great dancer in his own right. But Ade has as much personality and more beauty and grace than Evan. How can you not love a man who has a lucky pic in his hair? I think America got it wrong in this case. Ade should not have gone home. He has been an amazing talent that deserved a spot in the final four.

    21. # Shan commented on July 30th, 2009:

How could America pick Evan over Ade? That makes no sense. The choreographers are going to have to make up easier routines next week just so Evan can keep up. Ade has far more talent and deserved to be in the final four.

    22. # John commented on July 31st, 2009:

All I can say is, “Will all the Evan fans please head over to the Evan Kasprzak fan club?” I know there are a lot of you!!

    23. # Christine commented on July 31st, 2009:

Well I’m voting for Jeanine, but the important thing is we have to VOTE. We can think someone is going to win but then get sideswiped because we only thought they were going to win and not actually punch in the numbers. SO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITES!! =D

    24. # buggy commented on July 31st, 2009:

Rawr. The top 4 was kind of expected, but not what I wanted. I had wanted Janette to be standing with them instead of Kayla. Sigh. Now I’m kind of sad watching the show because all my favourite dancers are gone. But I guess it’s okay, they’re all brilliant dancers.

I can’t fathom Evan’s staying, but I guess if everyone likes him, that’s fine. Kayla is getting better, but she peaked a little too late for me. Jeanine obviously belongs in the top 4. And Brandon’s the only one I’ve liked from start to end.

Never felt like this for any other season, not so unmotivated to watch at least. Don’t get me wrong, the top 4 this year’s brilliant, but not as endearing as I would have hoped for. Maybe Season 4 was so good that my expectation for this year was raised too high. :o Would have loved to see a Heidi, Katee , Chelsie or Kherington emerge, but sadly no. Or even a Mark or Joshua or Twitch. Personality wise this season’s lacking, but the technique is brilliant.

This is the first year where the top 4 consists of jazz and contemporary dancers and no ballroom or other genres. Season 1 had Jamile, Season 2 Benji and Heidi, Season 3 Lacey, Season 4 Twitch (Hip hop). Probably that’s what’s lacking.

But I hope the top 4 now all the best. Actually all of them are winners at this stage. Just hope Brandon and Jeanine would be the last standing. Man. :(

    25. # Danielle commented on July 31st, 2009:

I would have preferred kayla and janette. Jeanine does amazing hip hop and solos and has a great personality but does she have an amazing technique like kayla. I feel like people give less credit to her than they so for jeanine. It was really sad to see janette go before melissa she never messed up and easily couldve won bc jet routines always exceeded expectations. Jeanines memorable dances were the three hip hops and battlefield. I’d like to see brandon win. He’s been amazing this season at all of his dances. Remember he was janettes partner and they did awesome. He’s good at everything he does and has stage appearance.

    26. # Kevin commented on July 31st, 2009:

Happy with the final 4. At th ebeginning of the season Ithought that if Tony and Phillips were eliminated, I’d be happy if any of the other 18 won.

I’m usually not a big fan of the elimination shows – the repeated solos from the previous night don’t do much for me. But with the 4 emmy-nominated performances form season 4, a great opening group number, and a fabulous appearance by the JabberWokkeZ last night might have been my favorite episode of the season.

    27. # Ben commented on July 31st, 2009:

Well Melissa and Ade went home, just as I predicted. Now it’s just up to us to make Jeanine win.

I really really don’t want Brandon to win. He irks me, and always has. I don’t know why. Kayla could win, her grandfather would be bawling like a schoolgirl and that would make me laugh. I wouldn’t be opposed to Kayla winning because she really has put her all into this show. If Evan won I wouldn’t be upset either. America’s favorite dancer ONLY needs to be that – America’s favorite dancer.

My prediction? Jeanine will take top place, with Evan being top guy. I think Evan got the most votes Wednesday night, but the way to provide the most drama was to put him “in danger”. I love how Cat said both times, “This doesn’t mean they polled the most votes…”

    28. # Stephanie commented on July 31st, 2009:

Oops, I put my comments under the music section. Sorry all…I’d repeat it, except that it’s just about the same as what everyone else is saying. I would just like to add that maybe we shouldn’t be so critical of the dancers that are not our favorites. Saying they can’t dance, or have to personality, or are arrogant, or whatever…I think that makes a really fun and enjoyable competition a bit darker, more mean. Clearly, everyone who makes it to the top 20 are all amazing dancers, or they couldn’t get through Vegas week. Clearly, their personalities are touching many people out there, or they wouldn’t have even made it to top 10. And, as many have pointed out, aspects of character like arrogance are hard to accurately identify over the television. Why do we need to focus on what we DON’T like? Evan’s not my favorite, but I like Evan fans a lot…they don’t seem to tear down the other dancers like the fans of other dancers tear down Evan. On that note, I’d like Jeanine to win. She’s been a favorite of mine since Top 20. She comes up with interesting solos, her duets and group performances are always fun to watch, she’s beautiful but still seems approachable. She makes me happy. :) I want her to win it. And I REALLY hope they have a smaller prize for the top guy, like they had a prize for Katee last year. I really liked that.

    29. # Mrs. commented on July 31st, 2009:

Here’s the deal. While Evan totally and completely shined on Wednesday night, Ade dropped the ball a little bit. I’ve made it no secret that I’ve been a big Ade fan, but to be honest in the past two weeks or so, he’s been utterly forgettable. I literally could not remember that I’d even seen his solo Wednesday night. What does that say about him? And when I saw his solo again last night, I knew why. It wasn’t much to look at.

Ade may be a powerhouse, but Evan stepped up his game this week, and he deserves that spot in the Top 4, especially when you consider that the only thing that was holding him back was that people were griping about his “mediocre” dancing. There was nothing “mediocre” about his dancing during this week’s performance show. Period. I’m very, very happy about this top 4! I would have preferred Janette over Kayla, and again, Brandon doesn’t really do a whooole lot for me, but overall I think it’s a very talented bunch, and all of them deserve the win. But, of course, I’m rooting for Evan!

    30. # jill commented on July 31st, 2009:

Brandon will take it. He is by far the strongest dancer on the show. I called it from the beginnin even when Mia was on his case. I think that was fake and done so people didn’t think he would be in for sure. I applaud the other dancers, they are very strong this season but I think Brandon should win although he isn’t my favourite person on the show. He has strong technique and performance ability. If he doesn’t win I will be very shocked!

    31. # Angela commented on July 31st, 2009:

I want a girl to win this year :) I was crushed when Katee didn’t win last year (although I love Joshua too). It’s going to be an interesting finale next week, I think the pairings will be awkward as the 2 smallest guys are left in the competition. Surely they’re not going to ask both Kayla and Jeanine to dance barefoot or with flat shoes again just to make the guys look good, no that won’t be fair. Girls FTW!!

    32. # Mrs. commented on July 31st, 2009:

Guys. This WHOLE season I’ve been trying to figure out what “ftw” meant. I just got it. That’s a breakthrough right there. Don’t worry, I’m rolling my eyes at myself.

    33. # James commented on July 31st, 2009:

People are frustrated with Evan because he’s very hit-or-miss when he attempts other styles. He should have had to sweat out his poor performances even if he doesn’t go home (especially top 8 week), but he never ever shows up in the bottom two. And yet, in the week he partnered with Janette, she got removed from the show. They both did mediocre in those dances, and Evan moreso than Janette, but because Evan can do no wrong, Janette suffered instead. He’s been the kiss of death for nearly all his partners, and it’s frustrating to watch this.

I don’t like it when a show about talent and entertainment turns into a straight-up popularity contest. Evan’s going to win the whole thing, since lots of people find him cute and charming. And I admit, he is those things. The thing is, you can know this without seeing him dance a step. In a show about performance, I can’t vote for simply that. I like versatility too. He isn’t versatile, and is a bad partner when out of his style. I’m tired of watching him and wondering if he’s going to pull it off or bring his partner down. I don’t get that vibe from the other three finalists.

I give Evan props for doing well this week, especially during the guys routine. He also managed to take Tyce’s bad Broadway choreography and make it fun.

I want Jeanine to win the whole thing. She’s versatile, works well with other partners, and has a great personality when performing. She’s also grown a ton throughout the competition, going from being under the radar to being one of the top girls. I think that is to be respected, and should be rewarded.

    34. # John commented on July 31st, 2009:

      Mrs,
Next time just type it into google and it will tell you the answer;-)

Looks like the Janette fan club is still going strong. I’m surprised that people are still sad that she’s gone. Although, she was good.

JabberWokkeZ was good, but I’m ready for Quest crew to light up the SYTYCD stage.

Can anyone say “Bleeding Love”? So good!!

James, thanks for bringing up Evan continuing his kiss of death. Was surprised no one mentioned it earlier.

I do think that Mia’s comments about Brandon are the reason he’s still around. I still think that Mia hasn’t really changed her opinion of Brandon. I know I haven’t.

Almost time to post the poll to see who will win this season’s So You Think You Can Dance.

    35. # John commented on July 31st, 2009:

One more thing…anyone else noticed that we have a bunch of MEN in this thread. The tide is shifting ladies;-)

    36. # Beth commented on July 31st, 2009:

John… Cosign! I think Mia’s comments backfired, even though I kinda agreed with her and lil c. And, again, Evan does worse than his partner and his partner goes, but he doesn’t.

      Very peculiar.

I’m bummed about Melissa. You hear her though? Talking about how she did hip hop though no one saw? I love her.

    37. # Tanaya commented on July 31st, 2009:

I don’t think Brandon or Evan will take it. Here’s how I see it:

Brandon is the Danny of this season- technically brilliant, but many don’t like his personality , he’ll come in second.

Evan is the Neil- not the best dancer, but a fan favorite. He’ll come in third.

Kayla is the Lacey- pimped by the judges, but viewers are up in the air about her- she’ll be fourth.

Jeanine is the Sabra for sure!

    38. # Gabriel commented on July 31st, 2009:

I do wish Janette was still in. i think we failed her as an audience because we felt confident she would remain. To me, she was the “Sabra”.

The lack of show of personality is not always the dancers fault. I think the editing is at fault. I remember seeing Heidi crying at one point over her fear of not getting the choreography. We see a more polished “behind the scenes”, and it prevents us from seeing the person behind the dancer.

We saw a lot more behind the scenes in the beginning seasons, but now every video clip feels cookie cutter and bland. These dancers spend days working on their routines, yet, we get a minute clip. We dont get any candid moments, like when Benji was learning how to be sexy from Dimitri.

A quick example is that in one show, I suddenly realized that the first person everyone hugged when they were saved was Jason, both guys and girls! He must have been very supportive of everyone around him, and after that, i noticed hints of him been behind his “competitors” and encouraging them. How did this get lost on me? i think it was the editing.

While I am at it, something that annoys me at the beginning of the season is how they cut from the Audition dancer to show the judges faces. it always annoys me. the judges will get plenty of face time. I want to see the audition. Some people train for years, and i hate having it cut for 4 seconds to see Mary smiling, or Tyce frowning or whatever. It is the dancer’s moment. give it to them!

    39. # m commented on July 31st, 2009:

still can’t get over Brandon’s solo. He’s amazing.

    40. # Stephanie commented on July 31st, 2009:

Gabriel – I completely agree with all of your points. I love this show to death, but there are some of the backstage aspects that drive me crazy, namely the camera-work and the editing. It is as if the techies want to liven things up a little bit, but my lighting design professor said it best…if the audience doesn’t notice the lighting (or camera work, or whatever) then you’ve done a great job. The first spotlight should always be on the dancers first.

I found it interesting that three of the top four had been a focus in auditions and/or Vegas. Since so many of the Top 20 were not highlighted at all until the performance shows, I didn’t think that those few who had been introduced early would get much of a step up on the others. Maybe I’m wrong, though… Do you think Kayla, Brandon, and Evan would’ve lasted as long if they’d been brand new to us at Top 20?

    41. # Mandy commented on July 31st, 2009:

I’m probably going to sound very uninformed and lose my credibility as a commenter…but why are there 4 finalists this season? As I recall there were always only two, and didn’t have to be a boy and a girl.

All I can say is “yay” and “vote JEANINE!” She’s been my favorite since week 1.

    42. # John commented on July 31st, 2009:

      Tanaya,
Nice comparison. Pretty close in a lot of respects.

      Mandy,
Since at least season 2 it’s always been 4 dancers in the final. Then, everyone dances with the other 3.

    43. # Bijou commented on July 31st, 2009:

      I miss Janette.

    44. # Gabriel commented on July 31st, 2009:

Stephanie- I think you have a valid point. it is unfair to the other dancers when they highlight 1 of the top 20 and not another.
      BUT
The highlighting didnt help Vitolio at all. They highlighted him, and talked about everything he has overcome to come as far as he did, and he got “only” to top 14 (I say “only” because top 20 is quite an achievement). unfortunately, i think Asuka and him had some bad luck picking dance styles that made people want to call.

As for Evan, I found myself cheering for him because of his brother Ryan. I think they did pick Evan because he had hair. Ryan was awesome! I was very annoyed that they did “one or the other” (they wasted space on Tony Bellissimo). During Vegas week, how many noticed that the choreography that “his group” did was the best, and that one judge even told one of the dancers that until that moment, they had never noticed him. Watch Ryan and whomever he gets as a partner make it to the Top Ten! I enjoy Evan, I think he is good, but i think Ryan will be legendary.

I miss Janette. Fell in love with her the day Mary made the botox comment, and Janette pulled her face back like if she had too many facelifts. What quick wit, and what an amazing dancer!

    45. # Kayla commented on July 31st, 2009:

Evan? hmm….alright. He can be in the top 4. If he wins this though……i dont know what i’d do. I understand its a lot about personality…..BUT it is about the DANCING too!!

Im just so glad its Jeanine & Kayla & Brandon made it!! Hooray!

And can i just say, I was pleasantly surprised by the routines they brought back!!!! Bleeding Love. Bleeding Love. Bleeding Love. Bleeding Love. yes. I definitely didnt know they were doing that. I dont remember them mentioning it or reading about it. awesome. I loved all those routines! so good. Man…..Season 4 was so GOOD!

      Can’t wait for the finale!

    46. # Kelsey commented on July 31st, 2009:

All the dancing they re-did seemed really sloppy. Like in Bleeding love the briefcase opened, in Mercy the door would not shut and looked better when it was all black. And Silence…they changed the costumes, I liked the old ones, and Whoa! Will got tattoos!

    47. # Gabriel commented on July 31st, 2009:

oh, wait. I wasnt clear. I really like Evan, but I also believe in rewarding the best dancer regardless of personality, since my favorite personality (janette) is gone. I have been cheering Evan, but only to stay in the competition. not to win it!

I think Brandon and Kayla are the best. Brandon is a bit more physical (duh), but Kayla is perfection. I think girls will vote for Jeaninne, taking “girl power” votes away from Kayla, and that because of that, Brandon will win.

    48. # Jennifer commented on July 31st, 2009:

Did anyone notice that dialidol showed Brandon as the CLEAR winner to go to the finale, while Evan and Ade were neck and neck? For the girls, Melissa was slated to go home, but there was no clear go-ahead between Kayla.

If Wed. night voting continues in that pattern, Brandon will be the hands-down winner. So if you have a fave other than Brandon, your vote is needed!

Am I the only one who thinks the whole Mia/Lil C thing was a total setup by the producers to create drama that would get people watching??

Also, regarding the repeated comments about Evan being the “kiss of death” for his partners… The very first thing my stats teacher told us is that CORRELATION DOES NOT EQUAL CAUSATION. Just like the higher drowning rate during months ice cream is consumed more does not mean ice cream caused the drowning, dancers getting voted off after dancing with Evan does not necessarily mean that he caused them to be voted off.

    49. # Mrs. commented on July 31st, 2009:

Jennifer, I second what you said about the “kiss of death” bit. As soon as I read the spoiler that Melissa was partnered with Evan I said to myself, “oh here we go,” because I knew she’s go home and I knew that would draw out the “kiss of death” complaints. If Evan had been partnered with Jeanine or Kayla, his partner wouldn’t have gone home. His partner went home this week because it was her time to go. Honestly, was anyone shocked Melissa went home last night? No. People have been expecting it for weeks now, Evan or no Evan.

John, thanks for the tip! I didn’t know Google would help me out! hahaha

    50. # Stephanie commented on July 31st, 2009:

Kelsey ~ I also noticed that the dances they brought back were…well, I wouldn’t say sloppy, especially when you’re talking about props since you can’t always tell what they’ll do…but they don’t have the EDGE. It isn’t surprising, really. When you’re competing, you put absolutely everything on the table. When you are exhibiting, it doesn’t matter so much. Still, I enjoyed them all anyway!

Jennifer and Mrs…I had to smile at the “correlation does not equal causation” reminder, because you are totally right. However, in this case, I don’t think the two scenarios (being partnered with Evan and going home) is QUITE as divorced as drowning vs. eating ice cream. I believe that Evan isn’t as strong in genres not his own – I don’t think anyone doubts that. Because these are all partner dances, though, his weakness brings down both dancers. So, people don’t really like the dance, but his very loyal fan base keeps him safe while his partner suffers. Therefore there is a logical reason for this to happen. That said, Evan’s only had two of his partners eliminated, and no one was surprised that Melissa left (although many are sad, including me!!) So, as satisfying as it is to blame Evan for Melissa and Janette leaving, I don’t really think it’s realistic.

Gabriel – was Vitolio highlighted during auditions or Vegas? I don’t remember. Anyway, my little theory isn’t totally foolproof…after I commented it, I remembered Tony, Phillip, Paris, and even Asuka were all highlighted relatively heavily before Top 20, and it didn’t seem to help them. Well, maybe it did help, but it doesn’t guarantee anything if you don’t produce the goods. So, nevermind. I guess maybe they were highlighted because the producers or editors or whatever just liked their stories. Another conspiracy theory bites the dust. Sigh.

      John-
Ok but what about the whole Tranji thing? And I remember last season that it was down to Twitch and Joshua.

    54. # Mrs. commented on July 31st, 2009:

Stephanie, I can definitely see where you’re coming from! A prime example is with Janette. While I don’t think Evan was bad that week, both his numbers had underwhelming choreography, which, partnered with his less-than-amazing ability to do latin ballroom in that second routine… yeah, it brought Janette down a teensy bit. He had upped his game from when he’d performed the samba, but it still wasn’t HOT, and I am familiar enough with ballroom dancing to know that without a really stellar male lead, the dance sort of falters.

However! I still blame Janette’s fans for her going home, overall. If people were oh-so in love with her as they all claim to be, then why didn’t they vote? Evan stayed because people cared enough to pick up the phone and vote for him. Janette wasn’t as lucky. It’s as simple as that.

    55. # Chelsea Rae commented on July 31st, 2009:

I don’t think Evan is the kiss of death at all. Randi went home because it is an especially strong year for girls and she was neither as memorable in personality or as strong a dancer as many of the other remaining girls. Janette was a tragedy, but I don’t think she went home because of Evan, she went home because they had the worst choreography of the week. There was no way Melissa was leaving after getting the big emotional piece, Kayla and Jason got that fantastic hip hop routine, and Brandon and Jeanine had the great pop routine. What did Janette and Evan have? An average jazz routine, and a latin dance. I don’t think it was the dancers in this case, they got screwed on choreography and I honestly think that both of them did the best that they could with what they were given.

Similarly, I think that unless Melissa got a stunning piece of choreography she was heading home. I believe that she still would have been heading home if she was partnered with Ade (again) or Brandon. Evan isn’t the one to blame here for his partners leaving.

While I certainly agree that he certainly isn’t always the strongest dancer in the field, I do take issue with people who say he can’t dance outside his own style at all. I thought his waltz with Kayla was beautiful, I never understood why the judges picked on him for his jive, and he’s clearly aced the contemporary and jazz pieces that he has been given. While I’m a fan, I do think Kayla or Jeanine should take it this year and I won’t be upset if Brandon wins either. Still, I wish people would stop exaggerating when it comes to Evan. He’s not a bad dancer in every style other than broadway, he just isn’t quite as strong as some of the other fantastically talented dancers.

    56. # Kelsey commented on July 31st, 2009:

I do not think its a girls year to win. To me Kayla has not grown at all, and Brandon has had to much behind him to even be like himself. Jeanine I did not like her at first but then when shs did her first solo I liked her, but now, I do not like her again. Hard to exlpain. I really hope Evan wins, I think next Wed. I will actually vote for once.

    57. # CoffeyCup commented on July 31st, 2009:

Yess, Jeanine FTW! I’m really glad for her.

Can I just say that, without getting all Uncle Nigel creepy, but Jeanine really looked the part in the girls’ group dance. I think I can understand Nigel’s being affected by her ’special powers’. :B

    58. # Sion commented on July 31st, 2009:

Of course Evan is a good dancer. And I can see why a lot of people out there love him.. (His gentle cuteness, his personality, blablabla…), but seriously there… One week, ok. Another week, ok. Top 10, ok.. but all the way to the finale?! oO
Ade danced with ups and downs, but at least he wowed me a couple of times (his first solo, the breastcancer routine, even tonight’s hiphop routine,…). But Evan just does nothing to me. Even when he performed the broadway routine I just didn’t ‘feel’ it. There is absolutly no ‘edge’/power in his dancing (except for that one time in the top 3 men’s routine, I really liked him there).
Anyway, I guess we could go on and on about this, in the end, the program is based on people’s votes, and by now we all know Evan has got a huge fanbase.. I give him credits, the show wouldn’t have been the same without him, but it would be sad to see him win.
Top 4 I hoped for: Jeanine, Jeanette (but I’m ok with Kayla), Brandon (he ’s amazingly good and deserves a spot in the finale, but there’s just something about him that I don’t like) and Ade.
      Greetz!

    59. # Stephanie commented on July 31st, 2009:

Mrs, I agree with you about Janette and her previously quiet fans. Actually, I didn’t realize she had such a big following until she left the show. I don’t remember a lot of people talking about her…at least not like Evan or Brandon or even Melissa. I was surprised there was such a furor over her leaving; I felt like, “where did THAT come from?!” As with Will last year – ya gotta VOTE and not assume everyone thinks the same way you do!

    60. # Greg commented on July 31st, 2009:

Everyone is right about the routines from last year not having a edge during last night’s performance. I noticed the same thing when I saw the tour last year. I agree, I think it’s the competition aspect that was missing. It subtle, but noticeable. However, I have to say the intensity of the performance made this whole season look amateur by comparison. At the end of the door routine, Katee still looked pissed until she finally cracked a smile. Same with Mark and Chelsea. I do wish they released the performances from last year on blu-ray or dvd!

    61. # Shan commented on July 31st, 2009:

I miss Janette. She deserved to be in the final four. I hope Brandon or Kayla win as they are the best dancers by far of the ones who remain. Evan may have personality but I doubt choreographers in the future will hire him since he struggles with dancing styles that aren’t Broadway.

the choreography this year has been tragic- not good at all.
go to youtube and look at pieces from season 2 and 3-they were FAR superior than this year.
stacey tookey is a great addition this season, but the other choreographers really failed for me.
      it’s a shame.
can someone please explain melissa not doing hip hop?????

    63. # Beth commented on July 31st, 2009:

Melissa never got hip hop because she didn’t draw hip hop. Same reason jeanine got hip hop three or four times. Luck of the draw. The credits say that it’s all random.

People are crazy with the conspiracy theories. :-)

Anyway, I loved the routines from last season. I even loved that the suitcase came open. I thought it was a nice touch and certainly couldn’t have been choreographed. I also loved how Chelsie went from a ballroom number and then did a Hip Hop number. Showed what this show is really all about.

At the end of the day, I hope Evan wins so that the comments on this site complaining about it go through the roof;-) Just playing with you. I want Jeanine or Kayla to win. Either one would be fine for me.

      Coffeycup:
      lol great pics of Jeanine!

Seeing comments like: I think so and so will win, makes me worried about how this will turn out. Because it’s clear that the dancers are so strong, that the favorites are completely divided. Saying “i think they will win” doesn’t mean they will be voted for.
I somehow don’t predict record breaking votings for this season unless it’s for Evan or to battle against him. And it’s really strange to me that Evan is getting so many votes because I feel like there’s an overwhelming number that doesn’t feel like he should be there. I mean I think he deserves to be in the top 4 but I’ve never picked up my phone for him. He’s not my winner.

BUT! Aside from all these arguements, I think it’s time to just look forward to the finale. And people might seem disappointed that Melissa and Ade left, but there’s still one more show ahead.

I think routines I’m hoping for is Evan and Jeanine Broadway! I’m worried about Brandon and Evan pairing because they are so different. Something I did notice is that they both can nail backflips easily. Both are actually very strong and compact dancers. Despite the large difference in strength, Evan will make it up with his personality and facial expressions that Brandon usually lacks in his performances but I have no idea how that’s going to work other than broadway (which I was hoping for with Jeanine =( ).

So I guess things i wouldn’t mind seeing:

      Kayla Brandon: Paso Doble
      Kayla Evan: Lyrical Jazz
Jeanine Brandon: Contemporary or even Bollywood. (As much as I like the soft hip hop by Jeanine, I have a feeling Brandon will dance too hard and will lack connection with his partner.)
Jeanine Evan: BROADWAY or even west coast swing if they can pull that off without pulling their face too much (bring Benji back!) … but I have a feeling it might be some waltz or if Evan can just keep his frame straight)
Brandon Evan: hmm…not sure yet. Broadway is the only thing i can think of that’s broad enough (no pun intended) to incorporate their strengths
Jeanine and Kayla: Hip hop might be interesting here and Contemporary would be battle of technique and strength. (This pairing makes me worried for Jeanine because I feel like Kayla could definitely outdance her depending on the choreography. If this was a Wade Robson routine, it would take both acting and skill to make it a great piece where I think Jeanine might outshine Kayla. It’s just whether or not their connection with each other and to the audience will be achieved)

Top 4 dance: Something with a lot of power. I have a feeling these are amongst the Strongest dancers we’ve had. Chuck full of muscles from top 6 and down.

What kind of routines do you guys predict or want to see? =)

So I’ve heard a rumour that the winner of the Australian SYTYCD will be performing on the show. Does anyone else find that really strange? I’ve never watched the Aussie version and I’m sure their dancers are very good but this biased Canuck is wondering what about your Northern neighbours? Shouldn’t there be a Nico appearance then? Or even better, how about a Nico/Allie duet?

    69. # John commented on August 1st, 2009:

      Chelsea,
It’s not a rumor. It’s true that Talia will be performing on SYTYCD in the finale. Seems a little odd to me. Why the finale?

Anyway, I would love to see Allie dance again, so I’d be all for a Nico/Allie duet. Allie is still my favorite SYTYCD ballerina (sorry Melissa).

Of course, that would involve actually trying out for the show, which would never happen. Lol!

But it’s the thought that counts, right?

    75. # Gabriel commented on August 1st, 2009:

Stephanie – you CAN watch those shows. if you dont mind getting your computer in the gray side of the law. just got to mininova.org, and do a search for “so you think you can dance”, and they put the australian versions and more. you can even get past seasons of the american ones
if you do this, and never did peer to peer, i would recomend you use “utorrent”, and before downloading anything through utorrent, download and run “peer guardian 2″, which helps keep you anonimity on the web while you tread the gray side of the law.

    76. # John commented on August 1st, 2009:

      Stephanie,
There are a number of ways to see them online. Gabriel mentions one of them. Although, I can’t attest to the legality of it as Gabriel mentions. There is a lot of junk on that site as well and you can get viruses, etc if you’re not careful. You can also find a bunch of it on YouTube, MySpace, etc but they sometimes get taken down. Basically, if you’re persistent enough you can often find it online.

Too bad Nigel has made it clear that getting the rights to the music prohibits the selling of the DVDs.

    77. # Chelsea Rae commented on August 1st, 2009:

I’m Canadian so we get that show, but Australia I know about because people tend to post video clips in SYTYCD threads that I read on various forums, esp. idolforums. The choreography for the Australian show does look fantastic from the few videos I’ve seen. I think many of the Australian dances are on youtube or otherwise, although I haven’t really hunted them down. Unfortunately not so for the Canadian show. There are a lot of amateur shots of the tour dances though.

I would recommend this site, which has many vids of the performances though. Forgive me John if we’re not allowed to post links, I wasn’t sure.

      http://sytycdfans.com/

For the Canadian show you’re better off just watching the performances and not our usually annoying judging panel and, even worse, our terrible host, a muchmusic VJ.

Just kidding, I’m cool with useful links. Spam links and what not I remove, but I’m happy to share the link love where appropriate.

Also, I should say I saw the entire first season of Canada on YouTube. They are just sometimes hard to find.

    79. # DaveV commented on August 2nd, 2009:

Bleeding Love – that was my favourite piece from last year. I thought Chelsie and Mark were really hitting it hard last Thursday.

Katie and Twitch also killed their routine.I liked how she threw off his hand when taking their bow.

However, should the producers have gotten them new props? The briefcase was destroyed from the hinge side, and I was expecting the prop doorway to just break apart.

I agree with those posters who said that last Thursday night was what the 100th episode should have been – full of amazing dancing. It would be cool to have crews like Quest Crew and The Beat Freaks appear on the show.

Chelsea Rae, seeing Nico/Allie again would be great. I remember on the Canadian tour how loud the fans in the stands cheered whenever Nico took the stage.

Gabriel, I hope Ryan makes it to the Top Ten next year. I agree, I disliked the “one or the other” thing. Ryan’s choreography is so neat. Heck, they should just hire the dude as a choreographer already.

I hope they get good choreography for the girls’ duo piece next week. Maybe, like last week w/ Sonya, they should get the same choreographer to do both the boys and the girls?

      Jeanine FTW!

I think that Nigel would have probably hired Ryan to choreograph. However, Nigel said that if they did have him choreograph, then he would be an employee of Fox and not eligible to compete next season.

    82. # Shaelene Jonesy commented on August 3rd, 2009:

As I’ve mentioned before, Evan is likeable, goofy, and brilliant at his own genre – but let’s face it, he struggles as a partner and in other dances. As much as I like him, I can’t bring myself to vote for someone who clearly isn’t the most talented ‘all around’ dancer. If it becomes a popularity contest, it diminishes the amazing dancing talents that make us tune in week after week.

    83. # Kayla commented on August 4th, 2009:

“If it becomes a popularity contest, it diminishes the amazing dancing talents that make us tune in week after week.”

      Shaelene —- thank you.

    84. # Mrs. commented on August 4th, 2009:

But Shaelene, just because Evan may not have the strengths that Brandon has, doesn’t mean he doesn’t excel in other areas that ARE related to his dancing, which ALSO makes his dancing something that I certainly tune in to watch every week. To each his own. I’d much rather watch Evan dance than Brandon. I don’t know why, I just dig the style he’s got. That doesn’t make it a “popularity contest,” it doesn’t mean I’m voting on things that aren’t based on his dancing, it means I prefer him to Brandon, or Jeanine, or Kayla. I’m sure it’s quite the same with most of Evan’s other fans.

    85. # Sion commented on August 4th, 2009:

      I already miss Ade.

    86. # Cecilia commented on August 4th, 2009:

I love Evan doing his shtick, but it’s always the same. He danced so well with Randy, but he looks so awkward with almost everyone else. As he doesn’t have the strenght to do lifts, his partners can’t trust him. After all, many of these lifts could be dangerous if the man drops the woman.

I love Jeanine, but Brandon really should win. His moves are phenomenal, he can put any personality required into the routine, he’s a perfectionist, he’s stong, and he’s a sweetheart. Plus, he really took it on the chin with Mia and Lil C, and he worked hard to prove them wrong, which he did, almost immediately. I hope it’s Brandon, Jeanine, Kayla, and Evan.

    87. # John commented on August 4th, 2009:

“he [Brandon] can put any personality required into the routine”

Seriously? I have yet to see him do a dance with much personality. He puts in the technical work, but his biggest knock is the lack of personality. I still think Mia and Lil C feel more or less the same way about him.

    88. # Chelsea commented on August 4th, 2009:

      John-

I guess I’m shocked that people don’t think Brandon has any personality. In his dances he always takes on the persona and I believe it! When he and Janette did that Dave Scott hip hop routine I was sure he would suck! I never thought he could bring it hard like that. I am more and more amazed by how we can all be watching the same show with such different reactions. I think Brandon is screwed cause he’s been great from Day 1 so fans don’t get to see such overt growth in him the way we saw it in other dancers. I think its a shame because to me he is sweet, kind, wonderful, AND beautiful to watch.

    89. # Donna commented on August 5th, 2009:

I am pleased with the top four; however, I also miss Janette. I like Brandon but he does seem to miss the combination of personality and dance that Evan seems to contain. Brandon does seem like a nice guy with a large heart. It takes all types of personalities to make the world go round and I just prefer someone with a more outgoing comic personality. Remember when people say that Brandon’s personality is not quite as likeable as Evans that it is just a personal preference. Also, yes Ade was a very talented dancer but just not my favorite. Sorry… The show is designed to find America’s favorite dancer not just the most technically skilled dancer. However, having said all of that I really like Jeanine. She has personality, skill and all heart.
