    * Melanie B & Austin – Smooth Waltz – 1 877 9 SPIN 09

My favourite dance of the night was the ever so memorable Contemporary piece performed by Amy & Vincent. Having worked with Blake McGrath before, I feel that the two dancers executed the dance to perfection. It had the star quality and technique all lined up for us to see. What is most important is not only getting the moves right or hitting them hard enough, but it is the emotion. The emotion that these two conveyed during the piece was absolutely breathtaking. I was literally on the edge of my seat trying to hold my excitement because I knew that this piece was going to be amazing. When it was over, I just wanted more. Amy was so in touch with her character that you just get mesmerized while watching her dance. She seems to be the best female contemporary dancer in the Top 20 for me this year. Vincent – a pure surprise. Listen – last week I underestimated him and I really thought he deserved to go home. He proved me wrong this week. I believe his charisma and good-boy charm worked well for tonight. It created much contrast especially with the character he was given. Kudos to him for portraying his character well and taking on such a huge role. As a hip-hop dancer, I know how difficult it is to switch from one genre of dance to another. With Blake, it’s another level. Vincent is one to watch out for!

Melanie M & Cody have excelled once more, this time beyond my expectations. This is why they are now officially my favourite couple. They seem to be getting the most praise and they do seem to be quite popular amongst the viewers who watch the show from YouTube or Myspace and even some of my friends on Facebook (although that might be because I keep telling people to vote for them! :P) In my honest opinion, I thought Melanie out danced Cody in this number. Despite being a hip hop dancer, he did not krump as aggressively as I would have liked him to. They are still so adorable! I cannot believe Taylor was eliminated last week! I really do not like the new Melanie B & Austin pairing. It doesn’t seem like something exciting or unique. To me, I just see two Italians forced to dance with each other. 🙁 Sorry, that’s just me!

Time to talk a bit more of my favourite dancers who are Melanie M, Jenna Lynn, Jayme Rae and Natalie. As you may or may not have noticed, I have replaced Daniel with Jayme Rae. To me, she keeps the couple out of danger and is the Red Bull of the two. I thought Jenna Lynn did great tonight. The judges said that Nicolas was better than her but I actually had to disagree. Jenna Lynn was superb, especially for coming from a contemporary/jazz background. She’s hilarious and cute too! Jayme Rae just stole the show for doing the dutty wine head spin and the creeping and just getting down and dirrrty! And can I just say that I’m glad to be Canadian?! WE’VE GOT DANCEHALL ON OUR SHOW! Hell yeah! And now back to Jayme Rae. Usually the girls don’t stand out as much as the guys but this season has definitely brought out the best girls from the country. I love when timid or technically strong dancers have to hit it hard and just get that raw street flavour coming through their dancing. It truly shows how much a dancer can learn and grow. Jayme Rae gets better each time I see her. Natalie Lyons – what can I say? Jazz for a hip hop dancer is quite a big leap. She gets extra points for getting into character and having such an intriguing chemistry with Danny. It is intriguing, wouldn’t you agree?

Last week, I was extremely surprised that none of my bottom 3 couple predictions came true. However, the ones that were in the bottom were definitely my next 3 and I was on the fence with some of my predictions. This week I foresee these 3 couples in the danger zone: Kim & Emanuel, Corynne & Anthony, and Melanie B & Austin. Unfortunately, Corynne & Anthony are just plain boring to me. I don’t see why both of them made it into the Top 20, quite frankly. Corynne is not the best contemporary dancer and I can see that she is trying but the competition is getting tough, and I just don’t see either of them winning. Emanuel, despite his popularity, does not seem to be as likable as the other contestants. I know I said this last week and he was safe, but I think this week will be it. If he is not in the bottom 3 guys, I don’t know who else deserves to be there! Kim is lovely but I don’t see her winning or getting very far either. She is far from seeming like a hip hop dancer, which makes her special, but I can’t seem to remember what it is about her dancing that sets her apart from the other girls or what is so good about her dancing. Melanie B, criticized by the judges quite harshly. I did not feel that she gave it her all. She lets her partners down, in my opinion. I think that’s the reason why she deserves to be in the bottom 3. I think Canada is smart enough to agree too. I also believe she should have been eliminated last week instead of Tatiana. Austin seems too much of a solo star for me. I don’t think he needs a partner. I’m not sure how far he will go .. but the girls sure do love him! So who knows?

Personally, I voted for Melanie Mah & Cody more times than any other couple tonight. Their line seemed to be especially busy. I believe we will not be seeing them in the bottom 3 couples tomorrow! 🙂 Cya then!

Wardrobe Rant – So You Think You Can Dance Canada Top 18

There is much to rant about that wardrobe deserves it’s own post.

    Melanie & Cody

The basic Black was good for Crump, though the vinyl coats were kind of too flashy

    Tara-Jean & Everett

She looked amazing in the sexy purple fringe… and uh – what was he wearing? Heh Who cares 😉

    Emanuel & Kim

Her knee-high garter get-up was sexy but contrasted his outfit.

    Amy & Vincent

His make-up helped emit emotion. I loved this routine I paid very little to their wardrobe.

    Jayme & Daniel

I LOVED this outfit. Daniel looked stunning in his hat and vest piece. Loved purple on them both, it was a perfect outfit for the routine.

    Anthony & Corynne

the dress was suitable for the genre but seemed to get in the way more than anything. His sheer shirt also suited the arrangement but was a lil too sheer ha ha

    Nicholas & Jenna

I loved the old school red jumpsuits. I hardly recognized Jenna with her hair straightened.

    Danny & Natalie

The boy undies distracted me. Her hair looked dirty. I think she’s a cute girl, but she was done up horribly tonight.

    Austin & Melanie B

Her dress was pretty, white, flowy and jewelled… every princess-girl’s dream. It was fitting to the routine and very angelic.

Top 18 Rant – So You Think You Can Dance Canada

While you can go view my Power Rankings Here I had a few things I wanted to get out of my system ASAP – Please feel free to comment on your own opinions and if you agree or disagree with me.

First, what is wrong with Mary Murphy’s Back? She needed help walking out on stage and also standing up during judging…. it was nice to have her as a guest, even if she gets on my nerves pretty quickly…

I loved the lil “get to know you” part before each routine.

And have much to say about the wardrobe tonight.

I am so excited with what they are bringing to this season. With Last Week’s MJ Tribute and tomorrow night’s Longinus Fernandas (Oscar Winner for Slumdog Millionaire) I am excited to see what else they bring to the table this season.

What was up with judges telling Cody he was lucky to have Melanie as a partner? um – Cody kicks butt too – they are fantastic together. And Tre’s whole “Mah is not blah” was cheesey!!! She must have had writers prepare that for her… ha! And then telling Cody he had swagger but not enough ghetto? Of course not – he is too adorable to have gangsta – like Evan on SYTYCD didn’t have “nasty” sheesh!

I was impressed with Emanuel’s performance with a broken finger. Although he did appear to step RIGHT ON poor Kim…. I wasn’t a fan of Emanuel before because I thought he was kind of cocky with his skating background, but he is pretty awesome… Austin, however, is still pretty cocky.

When they showed Blake grunt and act evil during the rehersals for Amy & Vincent’s routine I was pretty excited… not gonna lie…. Blake is damn sexy.

Loved that Francis and Natali were assistant choreographers for Tony & Melanie’s Paso Doble danced by Anthony and Corynne. Love when past dancers return in any capacity but especially to help new dancers.

Luther raised a great point tonight on taking Hip Hop seriously. I don’t think Jenna was NOT taking it seriously, but I do think Luther is correct, it is a complex style of dance and needs attention.

I really really like the sponsored by Tylenol Relief bit at the end where they show “Back Stage Relief” with the dancers right after their routine… it’s clever and it’s neat to see their reactions right after performing.

    that’s it for now…. discuss away…

Power Rankings – So You Think You Can Dance Canada – Top 18

I always get nervous doing these power rankings, especially so early on when we haven’t seen enough of the dancers to really predict or forecast… however, I enjoy watching and will base my Power Rankings on what I saw, heard and felt about each couple’s routine.

    1. Amy & Vincent
    Contemporary with Blake McGrath
“When You Say My Name” – Mario Spinetti

I had goosebumps. Yes, I think Blake is a God. Yes, I am biased because of that. It was dark but this routine was beautifully choreographed and beautifully danced and it was memorable. People will vote for this!!! It was my favourite tonight!!!

    2. Melanie M & Cody
    Crump with Lil C
    “Buck N Roll” – Tha J Squad

I love that Melanie is so versatile and even though I think Cody has the “Evan Syndrome” (Of being too cute to be “nasty” or “crump”) the two of them worked well together and they are both favourites of mine so I am thrilled they are paired together. They are likable and they rocked it so not only are they not bottom 3 I think they would be top 3 if they announced those results!

    3. Emanuel & Kim
    Theatre with Sean Cheeseman
“Maybe This Time” – Connie Fisher

I think Theatre can get too “Cheesey” with “Cheeseman” (heh heh!) but this was well done and the facial expressions and emotion was perfectly done. Emanuel (as someone noted in a previous comment) is very well-known in Canada for his figure skating, so I think people will continue to vote for him as he already has a huge fan-base.

    4. Jayme & Daniel
    Dance Hall with JaeBlaze
    “So Fine” – Sean Paul

I don’t know this “Dance Hall” style, the choreo *seemed* simple (or maybe they just mastered it) but it was entertaining and I think people will vote for things that entertain them, especially when they aren’t dance instructors or specialists, bottom line is entertaining or not.. this was.

    5. Tara-Jean & Everett
Salsa with Tony Meredith & Melanie LePatin
“Ana Pa’ Mi Tambor” – La Excelencia

I thought there were some awkward transitions but overall it was sexy and hot. She’s a looker and he is pretty adorable also. The routine was good enough to get calls I hope.

    6. Danny & Natalie
    Jazz with Melissa Williams
“Please Don’t Leave Me” – Pink

The boy underwear was distracting and awkward but the dancing was good. I am a huge fan of Natalie but tonight I felt she was a bit frantic, though her “character” was supposed to be a bit crazed… It was an average routine, with the exception of the spins which I loved.

    ——————- BOTTOM 3 PREDICTIONS ——————-

    7. Nicholas & Jenna
    Hip Hop with Show Tyme
    “Blast Off” – P. Diddy & Fam

It wasn’t as hard-hitting as it could have been and though I agree he did a better job than she did, I think the judges were too rough on Jenna. This could bring in some sympathy votes on her behalf, but mostly I think it was an average performance with a mismatched couple who will be in the bottom 3.

    8. Anthony & Corynne
Paso Doble with Tony & Melanie
    “Fuego” – Bond

This seemed like difficult choreo and style for week 2. There was the fall, and though I don’t think it phased them enough to be a strike against them necessarily, I also don’t find Paso Doble very exciting typically… I have seen some very powerful routines that I enjoyed but this one was just average for me personally, not enough to make me want to vote sadly, I really do like Corynne (and her giggles)

    9. Austin & Melanie B
    Smooth Waltz with Danny Quillman
“Nights in White Satin” – Il Divo

I am not a ballroom expert, so when it comes to these routines I usually watch the feet unless something else is exceptionally interesting to captivate my attention. This routine didn’t have anything to captivate me and while watching their feet I noticed a lot of off-beat steps and awkward footing. It was pretty, but not entertaining for me. Add that they are a new couple because of being bottom 3 last week… I predict they will find themselves there once more this week. I am a bit biased, I don’t really like Austin, I mean he seems like a great dancer (his solo last week was fantastic) but his personality rubs me the wrong way ever since the group routines during audition finales… meh!

Feel free to comment what do you think?

Katee Shean Makeup Contest Winner Pictures

Many of you probably remember about the Katee Shean makeup contest that we held here on Pure SYTYCD. Well, one of the winners was kind enough to send a review of the makeup and also some pictures of her wearing the makeup. Thanks to Cliche Cosmetics for providing the makeup.

Hi John! I haven’t had a performance to wear the make-up to yet, but I did a trial run this evening.

The colors are perfect, actually great for what I usually use and what I didn’t have. I can tell that it will wear well, stay on and last for a while.

I’m attaching a few pictures I snapped. I should have used a bronzer so I wasn’t so white in spots, but you get the drift.

Thanks again! This make-up should last a while too 🙂

    ~Nielle

    Now to the pictures:

    Thanks Nielle for sharing!!

Today is the final day to enter the free Burn the Floor tickets and rumor has it that a winner of the SYTYCD Workout DVD’s is making a video for all of us to enjoy.
