Sound off! What’d y’all think of the SYTYCD 6 Phoenix Auditions?, eh? Oh, I probably shouldn’t mix the Southern and the Canadian. ;”)

These auditions need to amp it up. I’ve been pretty disappointed so far.
Legacy…..best b-boy ever? after his hype, Mia’s -“i’ve heard about you” comment, and the tiny clip of his audition when he hand walks across the stage – i was ready for my mind to be blown.
Ok….I admit – he is amazing. I could never do that. That takes some serious talent. I’m going to quote a comment of Legacy’s audition I came across on a discussion board from a review on The AV Club:
*awesome move*
*shuffles feet and hikes up pants
*mind-blowing move*
*shuffles feet and hikes up pants*
repeat.
That is kind of what bothers me about bboys (and girls) – there doesn’t seem to be much of anything BETWEEN the tricks. And he didn’t show anything new until that hand/crab walk across the stage – which was awesome! I guess I was a little disappointed. But b-boying is mostly tricks, so maybe i shouldn’t be disappointed. was anyone else just a tad let down? I’m hoping he can show us more in Vegas and that his talent transfers to other styles. We’ll see……
And i’m not gonna lie but I was rooting for Allison, the hearing impaired girl. I hope she doesn’t get swallowed up in Vegas. It was good to see her picking up the choreography.
I’m hoping season 6 picks it up and lives up to the hype. They’ve had great promos. But after being let down that Ryan’s audition was the “best audition ever on the show” and that Legacy was a mind blowing B-Boy when he really only did one thing that was cool and new….i’m starting to doubt the awesomeness of this season. I won’t lose hope tho because I LOVE this show and there are many more auditions to come. I will watch it no matter what anyway so, my complaining doesn’t really mean anything.
I’m ready for Vegas!
Anyone else get a headache from Jarvis?? that scream should be illegal.
ALSO…..
the same-sex ballroom dancers were soooooooo———– much better than those guys last year. they didn’t get thrown out cuz they were same-sex partners, they got thrown out cuz they couldn’t dance!
and cue FALL!
I think that that the first couple same-sex couple helped break the way. I think that even these two (despite being very good) may have gotten some off comments about the same-sex pairing if they were the first ones.
I am also cheering for Allison.
@ Kayla & Emma – you bring up some good points, especially about the same-sex couple and Legacy. I was also not very impressed till he did the hand walk. I liked Allison’s bravado when Nigel asked how she’d be in choreography and she said, “I’ll be great.” 🙂 I want some strong male dancers!! I feel like we have some interesting girls. Now some guys.
Kayla,
Welcome back to the new season. I don’t think I mentioned that before.
I agree completely about the b-boy. Actually, his tricks before he did his audition were amazing. I went back and watched a few of those again. The audition was pretty weak to me.
Allison is fantastic. I hope they continue to tell her story. I would vote for her and not because she’s deaf. I’d vote for her since she had some amazing movements. Then, you realize that she’s hearing impaired and she blows your mind.
I’m also rooting for Allison! She has such a cute personality! It’s true though, her technique could be a little better but for someone who is hearing impaired, i’m floored that she can follow the music.
I’m just scared that when she gets on stage, the crowd will be so loud that it’ll affect the vibrations she’s trying to pick up from the music and it’ll be a train wreck…During auditions there’s not fans screaming, but I guess I shouldn’t underestimate her ability. She’s been deaf for almost her whole life so I guess she should know how to adapt by now.
John:
You make a good point that voting for her because she’s hearing impaired would only patronize her.
Allison does have a certain spark about her based on her personality. Her experiences have shaped who she is and how she expresses it too. I also hope the producers pick her based on her dancing ability as well as her personality.
Too soon for me. We never even see half the people who make it thru to Vegas. Ones who get a lot of face-time on camera early don’t always end up making it very far. I.E. did we even see Jeanine at all before they announced the top20 last year?
Oh, and that jarvis kid is in serious need of some meds. He certainly seemed to recover from his ‘heart-attack’ quickly enough once he got out of having to do choreography.
With Allison – I don’t think a crowded stage would hurt her dancing. she likely has to learn by counts that fit the music. As long as the counts in her head stay static, I think she’ll be fine no matter what the crowd is like.
I expecially loved her comment to Mia about music. “I just hear it differently”. Made me all moist around the eyes. I feel really connected to her story and as Mia said, I celebrate her courage and her determination.
I was diagnosed with Spinal Menegitis at 8 months of age (Allison was 16 mos). I came through with no permanent damage to vision or hearing. Hearing her story made me appreciate -my- blessing in a full recovery. So yeah, I’m an early fan. I hope she continues to excel.

You know what’s really interesting? After watching the top 20 perform all the way down to the top 10 or so, I actually went back to watch season 5 auditions and Vegas auditions. Mainly because I didn’t get to see them, but it’s kinda neat how after knowing each contestant’s face and name (well hopefully by the time it’s top 10), that you recognize them a lot more during auditions. Even if it’s a little tid-bit where they dance in front of the camera or do a short 2 second pan on their face. I’ve noticed Jeanine much more and it’s true, she didn’t get a lot of air-time. She did dance with Brandon and was already good friends with Janette to begin with. I even went back to watch Season 4 (since I also did not watch that season) and remembered a bunch of those contestants who got cut from S4 and returned for S5. (I.e Randi, Jason, even Ade [for like 2 seconds…I’m a SYTYCD-a-holic :P])
lol and you notice that every extremely energetic dancer who graces the stage also gets escorted out with an oxygen mask. They must hyperventilate way too much.
PreciousJewlz:
Wow, that simply is a blessing that you made a full recovery!
also not impressed with legacy, think phillip chbeeb. i thrilled over his journey from b boy to truly expressive dancer, and i thought he ought to have stayed longer. even in his genre he connected his moves, as did gev, another b boy fav of mine.
as for the same sex couples, i’m not so sure the 1st pair paved the way for anything, but i suspect their miserable performance may have jogged a quite successful team to come out and PROPERLY represent.
while the previous seasons comments WERE off base, it was the editing that was truly offensive. as they left the accompanying music was ‘” a man is nothing without a woman or a girl” or however that goes.
it was probably added incentive that appearing would be terrific publicity for jacob and willem’s dance studio, BAILLIAMOS.
for the show, it provided a chance to make amends for the sh*tstorm nigel’s twitter comments started.
5 will get you 10 that adam shankman’s elevation was related as well.
@PreciousJewlz: I’m glad you were lucky enough to make a full recovery!
@CoffeyCup: That’s an interesting discovery. 🙂 Once you know who to look for, they just kinda stand out, huh?
@Bandanajack: Good point about the representing, though the auditions were filmed months ago, before the announcement about Adam was made. But I’m sure there were rumors…
