So You Think You Can Dance Atlanta Auditions Music
Opening: “Get Down and With It” -Slade, not “Clap Your Hands” -They Might Be Giants like I thought at first.

Montage of inexpressive dancers: “Blank Expression” -The Specials
Travis Denison audition: “Scarred” by Unkle Luke
Montage of how Travis and Adam Shankman are alike: “Just the Two of Us” -Bill Withers

Matthew “Boggie Links” Pollard audition: “Opening Up (Ce Soir)” -Chromeo
Jessica Jensen (self-called “one-handed lady,” great sense of humor): “Hide and Seek” -Imogen Heap
Jonathan “Extra” Bryant (cocky guy, did the bad Cat Deely impression): “Anyway (Paranoid)” -Kanye West ft. Mr. Hudson
Thomas Hamilton (life or death audition) interview: “Gravity” -John Mayer
Thomas Hamilton audition: “Alpha & Omega” -Israel & New Breed
Choreography: “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” -Pitbull
Going to Vegas montage: “I Gotta Feeling” -Black Eyed Peas
Hmmm…another Dave Tweedie song. More Hot Chelle Rae. Good to know. 🙂
Excellent site and very helpful with the audition music links… Would you happen to know the song that Victor Smalley used in his routine? Lyrics were something like “realize I’ve been dreaming of…”. Great song. Thanks!
Oh, I remembered too that Billy Bell’s (first performer) audition song was “To Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra.
@indie: I haven’t been able to find Victor Smalley’s audition song yet, but I’m sure we’ll track it down. Check back! And great call on Billy Bell’s audition song. You’re totally right!
Emilie,
Thanks for figuring out the opening music to SYTYCD. It was a really different opening musical number for SYTYCD. Interesting stuff.
Billy Bell was great.
@indie and others: Check it out. Answers to all your burning questions now added. Thanks for your help!
Thanks Emilie! Your AMAZING! Have an awesome day.
@ indie & John: Between the two of you, I’m blushing wildly over here. Thanks for your thanks. Hope you have an awesome day too, indie. More SYTYCD tonight! New Orleans! I’m psyched.
The song travis danced to is not scarred by unkle luke (this is a hip hop song). its actually If it kills me by Jason Mraz.
Hi Dre. Travis was the UGA mic man who definitely danced to hip hop. “Scarred” is listed on the So You Think You Can Dance page as his audition song, so that one’s confirmed. Not that I can find the lyrics online. :'( Travis is also the one the judges thought looked (and danced) a bit like Adam Shankman and they did the “Just the Two of Us” montage after his audition segment.
Thank you for the song updates! For us hardcore, crackfendish music searchers, this website is a godsend. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
@Derrick: I know how you feel – I felt the same way before I first stumbled on Pure SYTYCD. “Crackfiendish” is a great way to describe it. I’m still crackfiendish about the latest episode’s music, so I guess we’re both at the right place. Your comment made my day, thanks.
Derrick,
Glad that we can feed your crack fendish needs. That was the goal. Although, I must admit that the audition episodes are much harder and Emilie’s been doing so much better than I had done on any previous seasons.
Although, people like you can help also. The only challenge is that Emilie is so good that she often doesn’t need other people’s help;-)
@John: Is there a competition I don’t know about? Make Emilie’s night? Make Emilie blush the most? Thanks for the kudos!
Although…now that you mention it (to everybody) I do need a lot of help with the New Orleans music. There were so many more dancers featured, so many pieces of almost-familiar music. Plus, I was distracted by seeing how my city was depicted and trying to catch familiar faces. So I DO need help! And if you’ve got the answers, you’ll be everybody’s hero, but most especially, mine.
Oh Emilie, this wasn’t a contest. If it were a contest to make you blush I would have said a bunch of lies. Those things were all true.
I’m sure some people will come around to help with the New Orleans music found: https://puresytycd.com/2009/09/30/sytycd-new-orleans-auditions-music/ Pure SYTYCD has the best readers in the world I think.
Does anyone know the name of the song that the last girl to audition danced to on the second day in Atlanta? She was a blonde girl, and her Grandpa had just died the day before. It was a beautiful song, and I erased it from my DVR before I could Shazam the song with my iPhone. I’m kicking myself for it as I type :o(
Hi Gwendolyn,
Diana Drexler, the girl whose grandfather had died the day before, was in New Orleans. She danced to “Your Hands” by JJ Heller.
Thank you for creating this list. I’ve been searching high and low for the “Weight of the World” song that Pascal ‘moved’ to last night. Question: Do you happen to know what cd that song appears on? Or did Tweedie and Bradley release it as a single? I can’t seem to find the track, or any reference of the track/title anywhere – and I really really want it.
Thanks for all you do!
Hi Kathryn! I’m glad you found us. I’m not sure about that info, but I’ll keep trying to contact Dave Tweedie. I checked Amazon and cdbaby.com and didn’t see anything. He hasn’t responded to my MySpace message. I’m sure that, with as many songs as SYTYCD is using this season, he’s got to be coming out with a c.d. soon. With any luck. And timing.
Hi, Ii was just wondering if anyone know the name of the song which starts after Victor Smalley is being handed a ticket and when Jamal Jackson gets his ticket, Victor & Jamal walks through the door being happy. I have been chasing this song for a while. Last season, season 5, Caitlyn Kinney auditioned to this song and it was also being played later in the season in a klip of rountines with Randi & Evan. The song has no lyrics, only beutiful piano tones. If there is anyone who knows the song I’m blabbling about, please comment! 🙂
Hi SYTYCD fan: I think you’re most likely talking about “Gravity” by Dave Tweedie, which isn’t available on iTunes. Dave Tweedie sometimes writes music to replace music the show can’t get the rights to.
Read this response from Dave about the work he does for the show. And here is a link to some of the music he’s written that is available.
Good luck.
@ Emilie and SYTYCD fan,
Yup I know the song that SYTYCD fan is mentioning. I don’t think it is Gravity because that is the song I think Smalley dances to but this is the song playing in a montage of smalley and Jamal recieving their tickets. I have been searching for it much like SYTYCD fan since its first appearance last season and that is what brought me here right now too. You guys have the most comprehensive list of songs that played clip by clip but I do believe this one has still remained unidentified. Pleeeeasssseeee Help!!!
