Letter to Cat Deeley
Dear Cat,
I absolutely adore you as the host of SYTYCD. You’re beautiful, you’re funny, you’re authentic and I’m a sucker for your accent as well. Needless to say I’m a huge fan. In fact, I think it’s a shame your name wasn’t on the list of Emmy nominations.
That’s why I’m a little sad to tell you that you have been just a little bit off this season. Othing really major. Just little things that you use to do so well are missing. Plus I think you may just be trying a little bit too hard. Yes, I know that this is the first time that SYTYCD has been on in the Fall. That’s a big deal, but don’t let the producers put unneeded pressure on you. It just makes things worse. I also know that it’s a new stage and so you’re probably a little out of your comfort zone.
Let me just give you a simple example. What was with that huge cheesy fake smile in the first top 20 show? Whoever told you to do that should be fired. It’s like they told you to laugh before each dance. It looked silly. Luckily you mostly didn’t do it in the next show. Little things like that just get annoying over time. My best suggestion is to go back to just being yourself. Quirks accent and all.
In fact, while we’re talking Cat, please stop having the audience say judges. We want to hear you say it. It’s one of the things that makes you so endearing. No one can say judges like you so please say it along with or before after the audience. That would make me espescially happy.
Don’t get me wrong my dear Cat. You are 100 times better than the other SYTYCD host up north. It’s not even close. I just want more of Cat. Not the produced Cat. The real authentic quircky fun Cat. That’s all.
Your fan,
Pure SYTYCD
I concur, I love Cat! It seems like she’s not really feelin this season eiether lol.
And, off topic, i wish they’d put her on the tours!
I wish Cat was on tour too. Then maybe I’d get a chance to meet her at the tour stop this weekend in Las Vegas. BTW, I’m going to try and live broadcast the SYTYCD press event before the tour. We’ll see if I can make that happen.
Having Cat’s voice introduce the acts (even if it was pre-recorded) does make it feel more SYTYCD-y. 🙂 I hadn’t really noticed her being off this season – I think they’re all just under a lot of new pressures this season. But I agree with you that Cat is the best. Even the “produced” Cat is worlds and away more genuine and awesome than most hosts. 🙂
I agree with you, Emilie, that I really like having her introduce the acts, but sometimes I feel like she’s trying to make herself as big as the new stage, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. In my eyes, Cat can basically do no wrong, but there have been a few points this season where it feels like everything’s not quite clicking. Regardless, she’s head and shoulders above most hosts on TV today.
I wish she could come on tour, too! I’m headed to the San Jose stop on the 18th and it would be so fun to have her there to wrap up the tour.
It does seem like she’s trying too hard this season.
Okay one they have had Cat introduce the dancers at the tour since season 2. To be honest I don’t want her on tour…I like having the dancers take control the their show and show us who they are. Yes the new stage and all has thrown all of us off…but I don’t feel like she has missed a step. I like that she lets the audience be involved in the show and she usually says judges right after the audience does. She is one of the few hosts that seems to make connections with the contestants.
I love the “judges” thing with the audience! I think it’s adorable. And I love how all the contestants develop such a great relationship with her. One of my favorite moments was last season during the finale when Kayla and Kupono performed their “Addiction” piece. Kayla had just been eliminated and she came back out and danced her heart out. She was crying at the end, and Cat came up to her and asked if she was okay, then I think she said how proud she was of her. One of the sweetest and most sincere moments I’ve ever seen.
I’ve never been to a tour show so I didn’t realize that Cat introduces the dancers at the beginning, I think that’s awesome. I knew about the dancers running the show from clips I’ve seen on YouTube, they’re hilarious and I think it’s a great way for them to have fun.
Don’t get me wrong. I still love her and she’s still doing well. She’s just not giving an EMMY worthy performance this season. At least not in my book.
@John…that was a bit much. My girlfriend says you’re kinda creepy.
@PunkRocker904,
lol…She didn’t think so last night *rim shot*
It’s alright. Boredom and a blackberry has you write crazy things. Considering how much content I create I can’t make everyone happy;-)
lol pahaha nice one! 🙂
But yeah, I enjoy your blog posts 🙂
SYTYCD fans unite!
On that note, I’ll let you guys in on a little secret. I’m starting a SYTYCD forum for us to unite even more: http://www.puretvnet.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=6 The fox forum sucks and so hopefully this will be a nice forum.
@John – Seriously, there is coffee coming out of my nose. LOL.
I like Cat just fine, Maybe not as much as -you- like her John (*playful poke*). I think everyon’es trying to get used to the monsterous stage.
I hate the stage. Hate it. If they want the space of the theater for a bigger audience, fine – but adjust the set so it’s more like the studio? I’m not a set designer, so I’m not if that’s possible. I just know EVERYONE seems to be swallowed up by it – even our lovely Hostess.
I just hope the producer get a clue next season and put things back like they were before: old stage, 2 permanent judges, mia michaels, and original cat! 🙂
John, thank you so much! I’ve also noticed something off, and it’s so distressing! Your posts are always spot-on. 🙂 Oh, and I also dislike the new stage. I don’t like the tv screen behind the dancers. It gives the lighting people a little too much to do, and they end up distracting me from the dance.
Stephanie said, “Your posts are always spot-on.”
I love people like Stephanie. Ok, I love the haters too. I just love Stephanie more. 😉
Man, I just haven’t been very agreeable, lately. lol
I think Cat’s as great as ever this season and I LOVE the upgrade to the stage. I think the way they are using the backgrounds and the lighting is great. I love the novelty of it all. I think it’s really been neat to see how the lighting and set folks have come together to make this a true production show, not just a dancing show. It’s really professional to me.
As an aside…I miss Mia. 🙂
