Should SYTYCD Consider A Smaller Stage For Season Seven?

Even better than John’s question about whether SYTYCD should continue in the summer or fall seasons (I say both, or just the summer if we have to pick one), what are they going to do about that monstrous stage?

After tons of complaints all across the Internet, Nigel Tweeted: I’m hearing you re. the new set. 11:40 AM Nov 11th

But what are they going to do about it? Figure out how to use the cameras to create the feeling of more intimate routines for the televised audience? Or listen and move the show to a smaller, more intimate set (the old one?). What do you think they should do?

I don’t have a problem with the larger stage so much as the video wall behind it. More often than not it’s a distraction and depending on the distance the camera is from it, it makes an awful moirĂ© pattern.

Thw video wall is okay. I dont notice it that much anyways hmm cause my eyes are glued to the dancers. For me its too dark thats what i dont like

They should go back to the old stage but revamp it somehow, like re-design the lighting.

I agree with coffecup – I liked the old stange and the stairs added some choreography options (like the Robosn robber routine Brandon/Jannette did last season). but it’s really the video wall that makes me hate the new stage. With the SD cameras in use on the show, there are quite often awful video noise problems tha tare quite distracting.

You know, I actually don’t mind the new stage and the added sense of grandeur that it brings. I also think the video wall, though having some kinks they’ve been working on, can really add to a piece. I think with any change, you have to continually improve upon it. I don’t think the best choice is to go back to the way it was…improvement is a good thing. I just think some of the issues with the backdrop and lighting should be continually worked on. And those shouldn’t be too bad.

I think the camera angles are also fine. Sometimes the camera folks get a bit overzealous with their creativity, but that’s understandable…they’re trying to create a mood, and many of us just want the full choreography. I’m thinking the average fan probably enjoys how the camera work enhances the interest of some of the pieces, etc.–but I dunno. I know my mom likes it. :-) lol

yeah, i didn’t like the new set at first, but it grew on me over the season. now the darker ambience and brighter lights make it feel exciting. the only difference i would want now would be to make the stage more open. sometimes with this stage it feels like we’re looking into a tunnel to watch them dance.
