Nigel said Thursday night that he couldn’t tell the contestants from the professionals. The audience can’t either. This is the most confusing spectacle I’ve ever witnessed in prime time.
Combining the professionals and contestants is a huge blunder.
Hoofer – Honestly I like that compliment… b/c it means that the two girls are performing to the same level as the All Stars and there isn’t a difference in talent/technique.
I think this is going to work out.
i would just like to state that i love mark and am beyond excited that he has returned. dominic, too. i honestly thought the all stars idea was dumb and not cool for all the hopeful contestants in vegas, but seeing mark and dominic dance again has made me so excited for this season. and as for the newbies, kent is hands down my favorite. and billy bell, because i don’t think that anyone can hate billy.
andddd, because i almost forgot, MIA MICHAELS! holy cow, she’s amazing.
Danielle – I have to say, I am not a fan of Billy Bell. I think I liked him last season, but this season he’s kinda been annoying me. I think it’s because they are treating him like the golden child and made special provisions for him and I don’t like that.
On the other hand, I’m with you. Kent is, by far, my favorite! And I am beyond thrilled to see Mark dancing again! And Neil.
You forgot the jazz number – Freak [Feat. Kardinal Offishall] (Album Version)! It had a great beat!
Pam – It’s there… there’s no iTunes link, so I have an Download on Amazon.com link.
@ Lisa: I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!! I don’t hate him (cuz I’m not a hater), but he is soooo overrated. Its pretty friggin irritating.
The Max Richter song from Mia Michael’s piece is actually originally from Stranger Than Fiction….it’s a beautiful piece. It made her piece ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. Omg.
Nice work on this list Marianya. Thanks for doing it.
I’m with you Lola and Lisa. Billy’s lost his shine. Alex Wong has too. He had that great audition, but is missing the star quality for sure.
Kent actually reminds me a bit of Heidi G from season 2. They both have that same happy energy and just real sincere love for being there on the show.
@John:
Nice comparison Heidi/Kent. I think it’s apt. I agree on both Billy and Alex. Great technique but I’m not feeling their personalities so much this time around. I want to see them grow.
SO glad I found this site! Subscribed even though I don’t see an RSS link. You might add one.
Thank you!
Yes, remains to be seen if I like the all-stars with newbies. Trying for a DWTS feel which I don’t like or watch.
I’m still shaking my head about last night’s show. Putting two little-known all-stars on stage with two unknown contestants led to a giant cluster flock. The audience couldn’t tell who they were supposed to be watching. It wasn’t as though the contestants were dancing with Janet Jackson or another high-profile star. That would have been easy to discern. None of the dancers on stage was instantly recognizable so there was no way to distinguish between contestants and all-stars. I found it to be confusing and frustrating rather that enjoyable.
The hip hop number’s song was actually a remix by District 78, not District 75. They’re the same company that does all the remixes for ABDC.
Here’s their website: http://www.district78.com/
The remix from last night isn’t posted yet, but usually they post all their stuff up on that website.
I remember I read someone’s review of all the performances from last night, and when they got to the hip hop performance they said “It was like something from America’s Best Dance Crew.” I was like, “DUUUHHH, Dominic WAS on that show,” but I didn’t know that who made their mix is the same company that makes the mixes from ABDC! I liked that song (I’d heard the original before) and I also REALLY liked the one from the Sonya Tayeh piece. I know what its called and all, BUT ITS NOT AVAILABLE ON ITUNES!!!! DARN IT!!!!
I can’t tell you how happy I was to find your site. I looked everywhere for the names of the songs played in last nights episode of SYTYCD.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
The Estelle song “Freak” is on I-tunes. Just looked it up. I hope this helps 🙂
@ Jessica R: Thanks! The last time I had checked it wasn’t up.
I think the All-Star idea is great. How many times do we see good dancers get screwed because they spend the first half of the season partnered with losers? This way, every single competitor is good, and we know that they’ll either be partnered with a great partner or with Komfort. (zing!)
Honestly, I thought about this a lot, and the more I think about it, the more I realize there’s just no downside to it. Plus, you know… more Twitch!
