SYTYCD Season 7 Top 6 (Again) Discussion Post
Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA, y’all, but I’ve been sick. One of the very few advantages of that is that I’m home “early” from work and can see SYTYCD tonight. I’m dying to find out what happens this week since we’re losing TWO dancers. Everybody’s got to dance their feet off!!! Though, not literally. We’re done with the Survivor aspect of this season…
I think I figured out why they keep the solos so short: they don’t think of the solos as “real” dances. I just finished watching the first dance (Kent and Anya’s Cha cha) and Cat said to stay tuned because there were 8 more dances to go. 8?! 5 more All-Star partner dances, plus 3 partner dances with eachother, plus 6 solos…that should be 14 more dances! Oh…unless the solos are just time-fillers from the point of view of the producers.
Lovin it so far nice twist on Staceys piece. Anyways thanks to the email i got today the top7 from this season will be on tour.
Stupid, stupid weather. My TV is acting up and kept cutting in and out during the first two dances. Kathryn looked kind of emotional after hers and Robert’s piece. what did she say about it?
@Stephanie: I hear ya. But they DID say that each of the dancers would dance THREE times, so…
@Amanda: Stacey’s routines tonight were amazing.
@Brooke: Good luck seeing the rest of the show! I thought Kathryn said something like “I forgot the last few days,” but that didn’t make much sense.
What the heck happened to Lauren? She was fine when they were judging her? Why is she with the medics? I’m confused, can anyone shed some light for me? Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the last half hour of the show.
Oooh, LoFro is with the medic. TWIST!
Cynthia, we don’t know anything yet. She was fine after the foxtrot, as far as I could tell.
I also want to say that it’s too bad none of the judges complemented Ade for his performance in the dance with Billy. He was tremendous.
OK, so here are my thoughts. 🙂
1. Billy and Robert: Billy completely killed this week. Talk about fighting for your LIFE on the show. Billy outdanced Robert, though–I thought he was sharper and more comfortable in the routine. Robert felt a bit crazy to me.
2. Didn’t like Robert and Kathryn’s dance. I don’t like the dances that just go lift to lift to lift. I wanted more from that. I wanted more dance moves and synchronization. The story and emotion was good, but otherwise. Meh. (Ducks)
3. LOVED Lauren and Allison. So strong and powerful! Wonderful.
4. Adechike and Courtney made me smile. So much fun! I love the routines that (a) have a lot of in sync dancing and (b) make me groove. This one made me groove.
5. Adechike and Lauren’s foxtrot was to one of my fav songs ever, so of course I was gonna be excited about that. I thought they did pretty darn good for a slow fox trot. Lifts were seamless, etc. Bummer they got that style though. Not my favorite style.
6. Jose and Kent–meh. Didn’t care for the choreography (sorry Spencer fans!!). And Jose was exposed majorly. He had a couple of salvageable moments, but he’s the easy choice for tomorrow, I think.
7. Jose and Comfort–loved loved loved the style and the choreo!! Otis Redding? Really? AHHHHHH! Be still, my heart. Just wish Twitch had danced it with Comfort instead of Jose. Sorry again. Jose just doesn’t have the groove it needed.
8. Kent and Anya? Well…Kent looked pretty good, but didn’t care for the song choice or the routine much. Bummer. Of course Kent’s great, but it wasn’t memorable for me.
9. Billy and Ade–O. M. G. Full stop. You’ve got to be kidding me. That was the best dance Stacy Tookey’s EVER done, imo, and the best dance that I’ve ever seen Billy do. I was blown away.
If we go based on tonight, I think that Robert and Jose should be saying farewell tomorrow.
Adechike may land in the bottom tomorrow after Billy’s great night (because Lauren and Kent just have too many fans, even though Kent had a weaker night than Chike did, imo). But if they send him home?

My wife and I thought that Lauren’s solo was tremendous, especially the roll over on the top of her foot. And towards the end, she actually sped up rather than slowing down. However, she had an ankle brace on during rehearsals, and I hope that the cumulative effect of all her routines tonight (especially the way she really hit the solo) didn’t push her ankle over the edge.
My sister and I text during the show, and she asked me about the dance floor. I blithely answered that it’s probably marley…and then I started wondering about the floor. If there isn’t enough cushion under the top of the floor, that could explain the crazy injuries. There were a ton of injuries last season, and that was the first season in the new studio. Maybe some exec at Fox went cheap on the floor.
beth, I loved Robert and Kathryn’s dance. I understand where you are coming from about lift-to-lift-to-lift, but I LOVE watching crazygood partner-work. When it looks like the two dancers are one being with two heads and eight limbs…oh! And Kathryn is just…lord. Beautiful. Just to give you another perspective. 🙂

To each his/her own, I suppose. I appreciate great partner work, but it didn’t have enough dancing in it for me. And the partner work didn’t blow me away anyways…
tough who will be going but I’ll say this the guys over at SYTYCDISM are voicing their opinion on who should be save…Robert and I full agree with them but I say Jose for sure and Adechike is my other pick cuz imo Billy and Robert had a better night.
Oh and Billy+Ade+Stacey=Best Dance of the night.
I thought Lauren looked like she was in pain after her dance with Allison. I half expected Adam to ask if she was okay. I think she hurt something in that dance but kept going and hurt it worse. Hopefully not too badly!
According to Alex on his Twitter, Lauren was dizzy and possibly dehydrated but is getting checked at the hospital. So hopefully just a case of working too hard but not an “injury” per se!
Did anyone else notice Nigel’s explanation for why Jose hasn’t been dancing in the group routines? I thought it was a bit suspicious considering we didn’t hear anything about it when it actually happened. Also, he missed two group routines, but danced just fine during the performance show in between. I think Nigel was just trying to cover up the fact that Jose’s not good enough to dance with the others.
Anju I definitely agree… the whole Nigel Jose excuse was just so so weird. And it didn’t really make any sense…
