SYTYCD Season 7 Top 6 (Again!) Results Thoughts
Well, I’ve kinda given away some of my thoughts over on the discussion post. Just had to get them out. 🙂 But here I go…
-Loved that opening number. It was delicious. While I loved seeing Allison surrounded by ten guys, I wondered if that was supposed to be Lauren and it made me sad a bit that we didn’t get to see her dance it. I kept thinking that it was a Sonya routine, maybe even Wade (a la Ramalama). Apparently, I’m utterly unused to seeing Mia’s choreography, because I was actually shocked when I heard it was hers – more shocked that I hadn’t recognized it, really.
-I liked that they told us right away that Lauren was fine. Least they didn’t play with us.
-Love that Gatorade is recognizing dancers as athletes. Took them long enough. If golf is a sport, dance is. Dancers have to take care of their bodies more than a lot folks who’re already considered athletes.
-It was a bit sucky of them to bring out the contestant with probably the most and the worst votes at the same time, but at least there was a nice lack of suspense. Kent’s safe, Jose’s not.
-Adechike and Billy was a bit more suspenseful. Personally, I noticed Adechike’s King Zulu t-shirt cause Zulu is my favorite Mardi Gras parade. I wasn’t too surprised when Adechike was safe and Billy wasn’t, even though it wasn’t what I predicted in my Power Rankings.
-What DID surprise me was that Lauren was in the bottom and Robert was safe. Then, I thought again and I blamed the judges/Cat/the producers for telling us all riiiiiiight at the end of the show that Lauren was injured and *nothing* else. So, everybody probably thought she was going home anyway and didn’t vote for her. I was relieved Robert’s safe and I had a pretty good feeling that she was gonna be safe, so mostly I was mourning Billy.
-I enjoyed the Step Up 3D dancers a lot, especially Tony Bellissimo. I’m even more excited for the movie knowing he’s in it. He was one of my favorites last year and he got booted off first! It was really unfair. But it just goes to show that SYTYCD is a reality tv show and the dance community is bigger than a tv show and it takes care of its own. Tony Bellissimo danced on the same stage with Lil C! So, too bad I didn’t get to see him during a STYCYD season, but I’ll get to see him dance now and again. The same is true for *all* of these dancers we’re getting introduced to – Jose and Billy, Alex and Ashley, Adechike and Robert and everyone we’ve ever loved on the SYTYCD stage.
-I already said this in the comments of the discussion post, but that musical performance by Christian TV was atrocious and I’m really pissed that we didn’t *really* get to see Kherington and Lexi dance. Biggest misuse of SYTYCD alumni ever. Criminal, in fact. Annnnd, WHERE is our All-Star performance? They gave the time to that guy instead? Criminal!
-Jose’s solo only reinforced what we all already know – he’s a one-note dancer, but incredibly sweet. Billy kicked ass with his solo. It was as if he was giving it one last valiant effort to stay in, even though he knew he was leaving, and at the same time he was saying to all the choreographers out there, “THIS is what Billy Bell can do, doncha want to choreograph me?” Clearly, this won’t be the last we see of him. Lauren’s solo was awesome and it did showcase her well.
-I did enjoy Allison Iraheta and Orianthi rocking out, I must say. Who were the dancers that performed on stage with them? I feel like we never got close enough to their faces to identify them. Anybody know?
-Alright, so the judges make the right decision faced with this Bottom 3, but it still sucks to lose Billy. I disagree with Nigel that his “androgynous style” kept him from connecting with the audience. I think that they were treating him like the second coming and it went to his head and people didn’t know how to take his swagger/arrogance/humor/whatever it was. He never really found his place inside the reality tv show aspect of it. But I think he proved a few times that he knows who he is when it comes to dance. I’m glad that Lauren stays. And I think every SYTYCD fan cheered when they heard that the judges don’t get to make the decision anymore.
That’s about it for me. What do you think?
–
Loved the opening number. Definitely thought it was Wade, but then thought it wasn’t and couldn’t figure out who it was. I was also surprised it was Mia’s and not recognizing it. Maybe it’s been too long since Mia did choreo for the show! Side note: Went to Zulu for the first time ever this year, shocking I KNOW, and got a coconut. YES!
Christian TV was terrible! He didn’t even sing well, and the song wasn’t that much better. I didn’t even notice the alumni dancing… And I forgot about the All-Star showcase segment. Maybe they’re not doing it anymore since none of the rest have a piece together?
Mia’s contemporary routine was… strange. For me. I didn’t really like the faces they had to pull, but other than that it had some brilliant choreo. I started cracking up when I saw Dom rolling on the floor. This proved the guy can still throw down in contemporary. BUT WHAT WAS WITH THE COSTUMES??!!! Dom tweeted a photo of him in the outfit and it reminded me of Lady Gaga. They has to wear freakin’ CORSETS. Orale, ellos se miraban muy feos. 😛
I have to be honest I didn’t like the opening number… I’m all for unique abstract choreo but I just found it strange and I couldn’t understand it at all.
Although i always love to watch Allison dancing and I would totally love to have her dress! pink tulle & butterflies? awesomesauce
Did miss Lauren though.
I loved the opening number, though it was tough to see who was who except for a few. That’s one of my favorite songs and I really wanted to hear the bridge of the song and watch the dancers just go for it, that was the only thing that was missing for me.
Not surprised to see Kent safe or Adechike. Robert’s face when he heard he was safe was priceless. It really puts to rest the “arrogant” claims he was faced with earlier in the season. You can’t look at that face and say he’s arrogant.
Who on earth is Christian TV? Cat said Britney Spears called the song “her song of the summer” but hardly. Yikes. That was a travesty to have poor Kherington in that ridiculous get up. And she hardly got a recognition. It was nice to see Tony get some love though. Allison Iraheta and Orianthi rocked it, but who were the random dancers? I don’t think they were anyone we knew.
Can’t say I’m surprised by the outcome of Billy and José going home. I’m about to get vegetables thrown at me, but I was kinda glad that Lauren was in the bottom. I thought Robert had a better night than Lauren and did not deserve to be in the bottom. All three of them had great solos, Billy and Lauren especially.
I think this is certainly a unique top 4, the first time in the history of SYTYCD that the final 4 has been all contemporary dancers (crazy right?). The guy I’m most excited to see in the final 4 is Robert. He has grown so much as a dancer, he smartly lost the ham quality and turned into a beautiful technician and incredibly expressive dancer. God love Kent, but I can’t help but wonder if his tendency to “pull his face around” is going to pigeon hole him as a dancer if he can’t get a grip on it. Robert is only a year older, but as the competition has gone on, he has surged farther and farther ahead in my eyes in terms of maturity. Kent does the high school prom dance while Robert did Travis’s dance for his mother, you know?
honestly i’m not so surprised that jose and billy are going home. for jose, err, i think its just that his time is up. for billy, he wasn’t in the game for the first few weeks and it’s quite sad to him going home aft his best performance with ade. but oh well, all of the dancers left are amazing too 🙂
i’ve got to say that i’m growing to really love robert although i hated him in the early days of the competition! seeing how he mature across this season is just adorable! 🙂 even if he doesnt win the show (which is quite likely i must say), i’m sure that we’ll still see him around the entertainment industry for quite a long time, coz he’s just awesome and ‘hireable’ 😀 love to see him in the top 4!
i’m kinda glad that i dont stay in america so i dont have to be confused of who to vote for, coz all the 4 dancers left are great! i will just wish them all the very best in the competition 😀 hopefully america will pick the right one, their FAVORITE dancer 🙂
I think for me despite Billy having a great contemporary routine, I was a bit disappointed that he was always the guy being pushed around. He was, the guy chasing after the girl, the guy losing the girl, the animal being chased, the quirky little boy, the man who had nothing. What bothered me was that there was never anything that made me think he was successful in GAINING something. Maaaaybe the Jive was close but Anya is a lion and billy is just a cat. Also there wasn’t a lot of commanding of the stage that he could have done. I felt there wasn’t a lot of opportunity to choreograph it that way (potential with the step routine he didn’t do). The only time I felt a hint of dominance was during his solo last night where he got his gun and winked. It was something different from his freaky, elegant, and soft side. It looked…kinda macho. Even though his interpretation was “I have the upper hand” it was finally something that I could understand that he definitely came on top or overcame something he was after. None of this running around in circles. Anyway that was my viewpoint.
I think all the dancers in the finale have grown from the first show. Although I think Robert’s growth is a bit puzzling to me so if someone could explain how Robert has grown I”m very interested. I believe he’s grown but I don’t know how. Whereas Lauren and Adechike’s ability to connect with their partners has changed over the course of the competition. Even Kent’s focus on just dancing and not his fans has enabled him to dig deeper emotionally in the styles presented. I’m satisfied with the top 4, although I”m a bit sad for Billy. I was hoping he’d get in instead of Adechike, but I’m still OK with Adechike being there. The chemistry between all of them are wonderful.
@Christine, I totally get what you’re saying, and I didn’t really catch on to Robert until the past couple of weeks. He started off much like Kent, a ham with a ton of talent and a big personality. As the weeks have progressed, he has slowly shed that exterior and become a very emotionally committed dancer, something I wasn’t sure we were going to see from him at the beginning. Not many people could have pulled off Travis’s routine or Stacey’s and still be believable in Sean Cheesman’s Afro Jazz or Barbie and Ken routines. I was really happy for him to be rewarded for having danced two fabulous dances last night. He and Billy were really the only ones (in my opinion) who nailed both of their routines. For poor Billy, it was just too little too late.
Although now that I think about it, if Billy isn’t going on tour, then he can’t dance with Kathryn in that contemporary routine with “Jar of Hearts” playing in the background at EVERY tour stop 😛
Just something to consider.
@Margaret
I totally agree about Robert seeming more mature than Kent. I think he and Billy have that same issue. But rather than being because of their dancing, I think it’s a lot about their stature. Robert looks a lot broader and taller than both, which makes it easier for him to dance and look manlier (and hot). Since Kent and Billy (more so Billy), are somewhat skinny, they seem very boyish. Just watching them dance, their shoulders are only a little broader than the girls’, whereas Robert is like macho broad muscle man. I guess it’s something they can’t change, hopefully they’ll just grow out of it.
@Ava: Great point. I think the maturity differences and connectivity with the more “mature” parts of the audience might truly be connected to the stature of the dancers. Robert looks like a man, therefore the judges tend to say that he dances like one. Kent looks like a boy–therefore it seems like he dances like one. Billy has a more feminine/androgynous stature, etc.
TBH, Robert doesn’t do it for me. I didn’t like the Barbie and Ken, or the Stacey Tookey. I didn’t think he did well in his ballroom. I’m just “meh” on him. Guess how some people feel about Adechike is how I feel about Robert. Really won’t/wouldn’t miss him. It’s funny, because I feel like each season I end up not “feeling” someone who is a hands-down favorite–didn’t really care much for Kathryn, or Kayla, or Chelsea Hightower, for instance. Guess Robert’s my addition to this list.
I would love for Adechike to win this season. 🙂 But I’m also fully prepared for him to go home next week. It’s gonna be awesome to finally have it back in our hands. Lauren being in the bottom shows me one of two things–either she’s always been borderline and this is evidence of that or that people assumed she was safe and didn’t vote (ala Will a couple seasons back). Guess we’ll find out soon.
Something I’ve noticed that’s made this season so special for me is that the dancers have really bonded. It’s similar to season 4 when those dancers–Twitch, Joshua, Katee, Comfort, etc.–were so very close. It’s so amazing to see them so connected. Maybe it’s because they started out with so few of them and only one’s left each week, so they’ve had time to really become close. But it’s a wonderful component of this season, imo.
I think Lauren’s fans may have been distracted by all the drama around Jose and Billy. Based on past weeks I’m sure everybody expected the usual suspects (Jose, Billy, Robert) to be back in the bottom three. Also, as Emilie said, it may be that Cat’s announcement at the end of the show about Lauren was distracting, too. Go Lauren!
These are more off topic comments… but
1) Where is Wade this season
2) I thought Mary was going to choreograph sometime?
3) Christian TV was just awful. I’m embarrased for him.
4) The only person more surprised than Robert that he was in the top 3 was his mom. The look on her face was priceless.
5) YAY Robert! He deserves it!
6) Anyone else notice they never changed the show intro to feature the season 6 dancers? Its like with the exception of Kathryn, and Russell on tour, Season 6 has been completely erased.
7) Has Robert been in the bottom any week he’s danced with Kathryn? She’s like his lucky charm! For that matter, has anyone been in the bottom a week they’ve danced with her?
robert has been getting an emotional dance for the past 3 or 4 weeks which people tend to vote for. kent has only gotten contemporary 2x and I thought he did really well with both of them!
@Rachel–
Mary was interviewed a little bit back and said that her name goes in the pot with the other choreographers and she just waits for the call. They get called 2 weeks before they’re needed, and if they aren’t busy, they choreograph. So she may have been called and been busy (she’s been working with her dance school and with Burn the Floor) or she may not have been called.
I am not surprised that Billy and Jose were eliminated. However what shocked me was that Lauren was in the bottom(although I knew she would be saved). I think Adechike should have been in the bottom I don’t know know who is voting for him too me he is lacklustre but that is just MHO.
@Ryan:
I’m voting for him. 🙂
So there’s one of us.
I am just thrilled that viewers (and voters) are finally catching on to the fabulousness that is Robert Roldan. I actually love all of the top four, and would be thrilled for any of them to win, but am just beside myself that Robert is finally getting recognized for the amazing dancer that he is. Yes, he’s goofy, but he’s also truly gifted artist, and people were letting the goofiness cloud their judgement. Robert rocks my world!
@Rachel: I agree with all of what you said! 🙂
Saying good-bye to Jose’s last night was no surprise but his choice of t-shirts was totally unexpected. I’m I wrong or what? That sure looked like a “Black Power” image.
Oh, and one more thing: people are saying that Robert “always” draws contemporary. Well, if memory serves, he’s also had to do quickstep, salsa, disco, jazz, African jazz, and I’m sure I’m forgetting something… It only SEEMS like he “always” gets contemporary because his contemporary pieces are so memorable. GO ROBERT!!!
@Kay Burns:
The “power fist’ is a pretty common graphic for t-shirts…though it does get it’s reference from the olympians who raised their fists in defiance during the 1968 Olympics (actually one of the most powerful images from the 60’s, I think) and the Black Power movement.
From what I’ve heard, multiple power fists, like on Jose’s shirt, often stand for “power to the people”, in general. I mean, I’ve seen TMNT “Turtle Power” fist t-shirts, I’ve seen them for Black Power, Gay Power, Women Power, Latino Power, etc. It’s kind of a meme.
But it’s a trendy thing for a graphic t, so his wearing it is probably much less about a political statement and much more about a cool looking t.
@Christine– I think Cat said that both Billy and Jose are going on tour, as well as Ashley. The top 7 of season 7.
I think it’s funny that Nigel is all determined to save American Idol right when he’s pretty much trashed the judging norms for SYTYCD!
“I don’t like four judges, they take up too much time” – he said words to that effect that when AI brought in Ellen. And yet what have we been seeing the past couple of shows? Oh look – 4 judges!
“The show winds up becoming too much about the judges and not the singers” – again, he said words to that effect regarding AI. And whoa baby hasn’t that been the truth this SYTYCD season – what rule will the judges change this week? And what online comment will get under Nigel’s craw this time?
One week the judges stress character over technique, the next week vice versa. One minute Billy knows his body best, and the next Billy is malingering. One minute Nigel pretends to be just a fan ‘I certainly hope you don’t go’, said while the decision is still the judges’! Then he pretends to be a powerless judge ‘We don’t know who you are yet, show us more of you’ said when he’s the exec producer who okays contestant package edits!
I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him any more, and as a result, my default perception of him is as producer trying to manipulate ratings over anything else.
@Clio: Wow, your comment was really insightful and spot-on, in my opinion. I think that’s the reason his AI “slip up” irked me so much.
@Rachel
On June 30 Billy danced a Stacey T. contemporary routine with Kathryn that the judges all gave him a so-so on, with Nigel saying they “weren’t connected”. He wound up in the bottom 3 for the first time.
As for Season 6, I think it’s the way it came down to the six-person (!) Finale. (A couple of the little intro pictures from time to time do appear to be Ryan and Ashleigh, btw.) In the round of 8 Ashleigh couldn’t dance due to a shoulder injury, yet the fans voted her through to the Finale, she wasn’t even in the bottom 4 ! (maybe accounting for the rule change this year putting an injured person automatically in the bottom.). Her husband Ryan also went through on the strength of two fantastic routines with Kathryn. Mollee and Legacy went home, possibly not the desired outcome. Anyway, with Ryan and Ashleigh involved with Burn the Floor, Jacob in Australia, and Kathryn and Russell on the tour, that leaves only Ellenore not accounted for in the top 6 from Season 6 – does anyone know what she’s doing?
@Lee:
According to Ellenore’s twitter, she’s teaching in Hawaii right not with the Drop Dance Intensive. It’s hosted by SYTYCD. And she’s been dancing with THE Janet Jackson. 😉
Ok, I’ve been watching for 6 years now and have steadily noticed that the African-American judges have dwindled and dwindled until they have now totally disappeared along with many of the African-American choreographers…….what’s with this that we’re not being told? Seems weird and whiter than ever before including the dancers.
The diversity of the show was what drew me along with the fun of watching dancers of all levels improve and be challenged with choreography and each other!
I’ll watch to the finish this year but it may be my last and I say gooooooo Lauren or Adechike!!
Anybody have any clue what has gone on with all of the African-American judges and choreographers….not to mention dancers? I’ve noticed a steady decline in the last couple of years…are there issues we don’t know about?
One of my favorite things about the show in the past six years that I’ve watched was the diversity and the “street” nature of where so many of the dancers came from. Seems most everybody now is super trained from the beginning.
I say gooo Lauren and Adechike!!
@Sas, that’s an interesting point that I hadn’t noticed, but I see what you’re saying. In the beginning seasons, we had choreographers like Travis Payne and Tovaris Wilson whose organic contemporary styles haven’t been on the show in a while. I think I commented earlier in the season on the fact that there were no true hip hop dancers in the top 11, was the hip hop crop that bad this year? I doubt it. I don’t know where the split happened, it’s a good question. Once again, and I hate to bring it up, your point makes me miss Anthony Burrell. I really hope he can audition again.
Ok- I agree with @Sas. Didn’t Shawn Cheeseman do some work this year- the African Jazz number with Billy and Jose though? Anyway, that’s the only example I could think of though. 🙁
This is not sooo very related- but, what was up with Mia Michaels wearing fur? Disgusting! And a bummer to see Billy go, but he has some fantastic things ahead for him. His talent is amazing. Nigel sucks for making that comment about Billy’s ”androgynous style”- talk about a low, inappropriate and unnecessary blow. NIgel seems insecure in his own flaming sexuality when he has to dog out the male contestants who are not macho/ butch enough for him. Like when they gave Kupono such a hard time about his hair. Geez- hair- that’ s pretty personal choice, and I happened to like his hair as well as Billy’s amazing and unique style. There’s room for more than two types of cookie cutter dancers out there. Get over yourselves Mia and Nigel. Fur?! Seriously? You live in f-ing LA.
@jessica my theory about Nigel is that, he’s the same body type as BIlly, and so got a lot of garbage about looking ‘androgynous’ (nudge nudge wink wink) in his own dancing days – and he’s just projecting it onto his perception of what makes a good dancer I definitely don’t think he’s homophobic – I don’t remember him every giving Ade or Brandon the ‘androgynous’ or ‘feminine’ note, for example, eveb though I’d argue that they both, in other ways, read totally gay. It’s all about the body type, for Nigel. And unfortunately for Billy, he’s willowy – narrow shoulders, weak chin, all legs. Basically, it’s a part of Nigel’s heterosexist perception about what dancing is supposed to look like. The women must seem doable, and the men must present as macho in some fashion. Kent’s youth, and broad (for his body) shoulders keep him from twigging Nigel’s radar, othewise I think he’d get the same notes.
@Jessica – Dave Scott
Any chance we can have SYTYCD without Mia or Nigel next year? I’d like that. Keep Adam as a judge and add a couple of new ones. Maybe rotate some in that have helped judge during auditions.
@Clio
I have to admit though. There is a certain confidence the men have to put up front in order to satisfy Nigel. Having said that though, considering the demographic, isn’t Nigel just being realistic in saying “in order to appeal to 12-49 year old women, you need to show more of a manly qualities in your presence.”? Billy’s body does appear to be willowy but I didn’t get the impression he wasn’t macho based on his body type. It was more his interaction with the contestants and how he presented himself to the audience.(or whatever the producers edited in) Nigel’s comment about androgynous may seem a little misplaced, but in the sense of the competition and getting votes, he might just be trying to justify a reason why Billy wasn’t voted enough. I’ll have to listen to his comments again I wasn’t really fully paying attention.
Hahaha nice to meet you @Beth
I hope I didn’t offend any of the any of the Adechike lovers(that was not my intention). I was just expressing my opinion, and I am sorry if I did insult anybody.
The following link is to an article dated today telling a little bit more about the latest edition of Burn the Floor. In addition to Ashleigh and Ryan, the tour also includes Anya and Pasha as well as former SYTYCD dancers Karen and Artem.
http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/news/burn-the-floor-to-heat-up-kravis-center-653491.html
In addition, in another article Ashleigh talked about how she came back too soon to dance in the Season 6 Finale, turning some micro shoulder tears into a macro tear. It put her out of commission for awhile. After reading that, I have more understanding of Billy’s not wanting to push the issue with his knee.
@Ryan:
I’m totally not offended. 🙂 We talk about this a lot on this site–I’m the resident Adechike fan, so I stand up for him a lot.
I have a thing for his style of dancing, I guess–the core strength and athleticism. And I think he’s got the cutest personality. I also don’t think any dance he’s done all season has been poorly executed.
For instance, IIRC, his week 1 dance was with Kathryn (the daydream dance) and I remember being baffled by the judges’ reaction to it–I thought it was great. Not spectacular, but definitely not the chemistry-lacking travesty that the judges made it out to be.
The beauty of this show, I think, is that we can all have such varied opinions about dance/rs, and none of us are wrong.
I’m usually the oddball of the group though–choosing someone that isn’t the consensus favorite, I think. Like Melissa last summer (though I did love Jeanine) or Adechike this time around (though that doesn’t mean I don’t like some of the others–except Robert…not feeling Robert…)
🙂
Oh, and @Jessica (#29)…Mia’s fur vest was faux fur.
She confirmed that it was. 🙂
@beth and Ryan (and everybody): I think it’s a perfect illustration of the subjectiveness of dance and the show.
I’m not feeling Adechike (except in fleeting moments like his dance with Comfort), though I do agree his personality is great, now that we’ve gotten to see it. beth, however, fights tooth and nail as his advocate on the site. I can respect that because I love Robert, who she’s not feeling, as she admits.
It just goes to show that it’s not really about “right” or “wrong” or “best” or “worst” when it comes to this show and dance in general. It’s just about who you love to watch dance.
America’s Favorite Dancer.
@beth and Emilie
I wanted to post this in the other thread since it was about your (dis)like(s) for Adechike, but I’ll say it here. I love your banter! It puts a smile on my face every time! I can just imagine you two nudging each other with your elbows as you exchange personal opinions. <3 you two! 😛
Or maybe Emilie just likes to push people's buttons, i.e. John.
I feel as though this season is so full of amazing dancers that’s it’s next to impossible to send any of them home. That said, I would have preferred Adechike to have gone rather than Billy. Yes, Billy’s been in the bottom a lot but he’s also ridiculously talented. And he really has grown in connecting with his partners. Adechike has strength and is a wonderful technical dancer, but I never felt that his performances were up to par with the other dancers’ numbers (except of course, his brilliant piece with Comfort). I’m frustrated that he gets through every week- he must have a really big fan base. I wish Billy could have stayed, especially after such an incredible night (tears and goosebumps for Mad World). SOOO excited that Robert made the Top 4- it’s about time people stop overlooking him!
@Christine:
If Emilie and I were sitting next to each other, I’d probably throw popcorn at her every time she dissed my boy Chike. Really like him this season.
😉
Seriously though, I love the banter here, too. Everyone is great–mature, engaged. It’s great. I credit the wonderful contributors and founders. John, Margaret, Emilie, etc. They run a tight ship. 😉
Oh, and I HATED Christian TV’s performance! I thought it was a crappy performance overall, and why the heck didn’t we see the SYTYCD alumni? Stupid song, stupid artistic concept. They usually pick much better artists!
@Stefanie
I found myself fast fowarding through the performance as well but I think LIVE performances are a wonderful thing. It really EXPOSES a singer whivh might bring about some incentive for better singers or at least better lip syncing. But some cases I’d rather hear lip syncing than an ear sore of LIVE notes >_< I'd bring up the Train performance on America's Got Talent but it was pretty terrible.
@beth
I agree. The nature of the comments here are much more insightful and less offensive, at least people do their best to not offend intentionally.
@Christine: How *dare* you compare me to John! Really! 🙂 I don’t like pushing people’s buttons, but I am stubborn when I feel strongly about something. That being said, I have to admit that I’ve grown to love this playful disagreement with beth. 🙂 The fact that she feels just as strongly about Adechike as I feel for my favorite dancers is what makes me try to find in him what she sees. Though, if elbows were involved, I think that could get quite rough, so I vote for beth’s suggestion popcorn throwing instead!
@beth: While I do think John deserves a lot of credit for founding the site, and Margaret does a fabulous job with everything she contributes, I have to give y’all credit as well. Everybody who hangs out here is so passionate about the show and makes an active decision to be respectful, even as they disagree wildly, and I think that’s the beauty of the site.
@Stefanie: I’m on the same page with you on Christian TV and the fact that SYTYCD usually picks much better music. I think that was the main reason I was so disappointed. While they musical performances are never my favorites, all I could think of was what we COULD have seen in place of his performance. An All-Star performance. A professional dance troupe. Black Gold or another really great *live* musical performance. Argggh. 🙂
@Emilie, couldn’t agree more. I didn’t even know who Christian TV was, and I feel like I lost some very necessary brain cells watching him, yikes. And poor Kherington, probably not the way she envisioned her return to the SYTYCD stage. What I would have given for a Twitchington number instead!!
@Margaret: I agree completely – I felt so cheated that we didn’t get to see Kherington spotlit as an alum. She’s one of my All-Stars, for sure!!! Twitchington!!!!!
Re: the banter
I’m new here, and I am so glad to have found this site where there is some intelligent, fun and (mostly) POSITIVE conversation about my favorite show! I love SYTYCD because I love dance and watching dance, and I love “getting to know” the dancers and watching them evolve. And it can be such a downer to read nasty and hateful comments on some of the sites. Thanks for running a great site! Love it here! 🙂
@MJ: Awwww! That’s what we aim for – because it’s what we need, as fans, too. Thanks for becoming part of the conversation and we’re so glad to have you. 🙂
