Power Rankings SYTYCD Canada Top 22

It’s been a while since I did power rankings so bare with me and PLEASE comment below if you agree, disagree, or have something more to say.

We are just getting to know the dancers so I find it even more challenging. Also, I am not a dancing expert so mostly I judge on what I find entertaining and make me want to pick up the phone and vote.

Top 3
1. Hanni & Tara-Jean- Jazz – Nico & Wynn
That’s how Strong my Love is – Otis Redding
1877 977 4611

I am a MASSIVE Nico fan and also TaraJean, so this was just a favourite before it started! It was so cute, TJ was like a ball of sunshine in her yellow dress and beaming smile. It was the only routine of the night to give me chills and therefore gets my #1 ranking… the playful chase and blanket romp was awesome… They saved the best for last.

2. Bree & Edgar – Hip Hop – Jaeblaze
O.M.G – Usher
1877 977 4610

Canada is known for it’s hot routines. This routine was just that. Grinding and thursting – wow! It seemed a bit spastic at times, maybe because it was so fast, but I really enjoyed it a lot. They rocked it! Mary even put Bree on the Hot Tamale Train!

3. Danielle & Sebastian – Bollywood – Longinus Fernandes
Tera Hi Jalwa – Sajid – Wajid (Wanted Cast)
1877 977 4605

Bollywood was good for Sebastian and Danielle also did well… very entertaining. The skirt change could have gone very wrong but it, like the last jump, went without a hitch. Longinus Fernandes is amazing and he is the choreographer from Slumdog Millionaire. I am a HUGE Sebastian Fan, he reminds me of Mark from USA SYTYCD and I love his quirkiness.

Middle 5

4. Jera & Kirsten – Contemporary – Mandy Moore
“Fireflies” by Ron Pope
1877 977 4602

Beautiful. I kept moving this into #3 then #4. Mandy’s a great choreographer. Her feet bothered me at times, I am not sure why, maybe it is the ballet point? After lot’s of bumps and falls in rehearsal they really mastered it. I have no idea what Tre was talking about “watching Twilight on stage” but I enjoyed the routine. This would have been #3 except for her feet annoying me.

5. Janick & Shavar – Afro-Jazz – Sean Cheesman
Dances with wood / baba – Mickey Hard, Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju & Giovanni Hidalgo
1877 977 4608

I personally love Sean Cheesman’s Afro-Jazz most of the time. They had the jumps and moves and the outfits just complimented their moves. The drop spin was awesome as were the air headstand flip thing. I think people should vote for this, it was entertaining and well done. I especially loved the all at the end.

6. Jonathan & Kloe – Hip Hop – Sho-Tyme
X Gon’ Give it to Ya – DMX
1877 977 4606

He was really good, she wasn’t bad… DMX is hard and their moves needed to be harder. That being said, it was entertaining and I think people may vote for them. She kept smiling which looked really strange given the moves… but he got his face down.

7. Yonni & Claudia – Salsa – Tony & Meredith
Calabria 2008 ft Natasja – Enur
1 877 977 4601

White outfit was hot, her blue frills were sexy, great personality, perfect genre for them. Slight fall which looked to be his fault, though the judges did not mention it. She was more in her element than he. Still nice chemistry and a fun routine. I think I am ranking this a bit low, they were so amazing… gah! Too hard to choose this first week.

8. Denys & Amanda – Tango – Tony & Meredith
Grand Guiiignol – Bajofondo
1877 977 4603

Her legs shook a lot and looked awkward at times, but this isn’t her genre. Luckily she had Denys in his genre to lead her and lead her he did. I think tango is a tough first week draw. It felt awkward at times and it wasn’t a favourite of the night at all. Side note – poor girl had bruises all up and down her legs. Mary is hilarious throwing her papers all over the place. To be honest I fast forwarded through a lot of the judges, they didn’t see to be offering a critique but instead sugar coating and spewing random stuff.

Bottom 3

9. Nathalie & Mackenzie – Viennese Waltz – Pierre Allaire
For the Nights I can’t Remember – Hedley
1877 977 4609

Beautiful, Mackenzie is all kinds of sexy. The flip/ lift was fabulous and it felt like a more modern version of the waltz. Technically, I can’t comment, but I enjoyed watching. They did have great chemistry and handled a tough dance well together.

10. Charlene & Jeff – Jive – Danny Arbour
Celebrity Status (Shake Shake) – Marianas Trench
1877 977 4604
Rough spin, but nice lift. Very fun routine. I didn’t like the judges all saying they were “cute” how annoying. It was a it slow for a jive and had awkward moments whichis why I am putting it in the bottom 3

11. Jesse & Julia – New Disco – Melissa Williams
Fame – Lady Gaga
1877 977 4607

Lot’s of fog, props, not sure it enhanced dancing or distracted… incredible outfit, she looked almost nude. Powerful movements, I didn’t see chemistry like some other couples. I could be terribly wrong, it has been a while since I did power rankings but I just don’t think this one will do as well.

Thoughts?

Am I way off?

Tonight the Top 22 Perform for the first time SYTYCD Canada

CTV writes:

Season 3’s dancers represent the country coast to coast from Vancouver, B.C., to Inverness, NS, and for the first time, there are competitors from Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. Specializing in everything from contemporary to hip-hop, ballroom, ballet and salsa, the Top 22 were announced during a special one-hour reveal episode.

Rounding out the Top 22 are four competitors from British Columbia, four from Alberta, nine from Ontario, two from Quebec, one from Nova Scotia.

They will now be paired into 11 couples and will work with some of the world’s top choreographers learning a new dance routine and style each week. Each dancer has chance to win the title of Canada’s Favourite dancer, $100,000 and, for the first time ever, the winner, runner up and one lucky viewer will win a Mazda2.

The fate of the 22 finalists is left up to viewer votes. Voting starts on August 23rd and continues for the next nine weeks.

Voting will occur following the conclusion of the performance shows and is restricted to one, two-hour voting window in each region of broadcast, and can be cast for free via landline telephones.

On the first live results show, Tuesday, August 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET, the three couples with the fewest number of votes will be announced. Each dancer in those three couples will then have one last chance to impress the judges and “dance for their life” with a solo routine of his or her choosing.

After all six dancers have performed, the judges will make the ultimate decision of who stays and who goes home.

The Many Faces of Leah Miller

**I started this post in November and forgot about it until tonight….

I was looking at older photos of Leah Miller and she looked much different.

Last season of SYTYCD Canada I couldn’t help but feel like she was in a wind tunnel because her face looked so PULLED back and tight.

She was born in 1981 so she is still VERY young, why is she looking like she has had far too many plastic surgery procedures?

Let’s look at the many faces of Leah Miller….. and tell me what the heck is happening to her face?

So she starts off fairly normal looking…

 Now, everyone has bad days…. it’s human….

But soon it looks like surgery takes over…..

Tonight’s episode was no different, my friend actually texted me to ask what happened to her face saying she looks like a cat… ha ha ha…. I am not a huge fan of Leah (“lay-uh”) anyways, but I almost feel sad for her, to feel so insecure and pressured to change her already young, beautiful face into – – – a plastic cat-like mask… *sigh*
