My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

If my notes were correct, there were only three true standing ovations during the night (“Cats”, “Titanic”, and the fantastic Paso Doble at the end.) All were deserved.
The judges stood also for the last two. These three were IMO the best of the evening in order: Titanic, the Paso Doble, and Cats.
(As just an aside, although Witney may be a stronger ball room dancer than Lindsey, the latter was absolutely perfect for this dance. If Cole and Lindsey can handle all styles, they could go far.)
Hopefully all six of these dancers will move right along. After that it gets murkier, but my wife and I agreed on a bottom three of George/Tiffany, Brandon/Janaya, and Daniel/Alexa.
The last of these, with all the movements around the “jungle gym”, just didn’t seem to go smoothly at all, and there seemed to be slight hesitations before lifts and major moves.
The weakest male dancer we though was Daniel, with Janaya being the weakest female. She seemed really out of her element on her Nappy-Tabs, whereas Amelia just shined in hers (both girls are contemporary).
Lindsay is better ballroom dancer technically and performance wise than witney Lindsay is killing it her Audrey and eliana are the female front runners and alexia as well as Matthew Cole Daniel Chehon and Cyrus. And I love witney though
Very even spread across the poll results. It will be interesting to see who’s in the bottom next week. (My only prediction is Janaya for the girls. She has the fewest votes int he poll and I actually had to use google to remember who she was.)
I really liked a lot of pieces last night. Here are my thoughts.
AMAZING PIECES-
Audrey and Matt Titanic
I loved how the moves fit with the music. It was just beautiful. The choreo was amazing (Travis as always) but the dancers really made it special.
Janelle and Darian African Jazz
I thought this piece was very exciting! It tired me out just watching it. This was real dancing!
Tiffany and George Contemporary
I dont see how anyone would put this in the bottom. I thought this piece was beautiful! This felt like a professional piece, and the transitions between moves was so quick and advanced. I really think that both of them will go far.
Lindsay and Cole Pasa Doble
I was loving this dance since the first move where she beat on his heart with her fist. I think that both of them proved this dance isnt the kiss of death. That was Pasa with poison!
GREAT PIECES-
Whitney and Cheon Samba
I was a little nervous about Cheon seeing that he doesnt pick up choreo well, but he did really well! The piece had a few errors, but overall was danced great.
GOOD PIECES-
Alexa Daniel Jazz
I thought this piece had cool moves and tricks. It was a little short for me, and could of had more time when it was them together instead of dancing side by side, but it was fun and i liked it.
EH PIECES-
Amelia and WIll Hip-Hop
Why did everyone but me enjoy this piece? I just didnt get into it. There was no amazing moves, and it just seemed silly and amateur.
Amber and Nick Waltz
I’ve seen some great waltzes on the show, but this wasn’t one i would ever remember. It was okay, but they didn’t do anything that was impressive.
TERRIBLE PIECES-
Eliana and Cyrus Broadway
I thought this piece was horrific! Mary said “People are going to watch this over and over,” but i couldnt even finish watching it once! There was just all kinds of weird flailing moves, and half the piece was them rolling on the floor. I didnt understand the song, the props, the moves, the costumes, NOTHING FIT!
Brandon and Janeh Hip Hop
This was just a boring piece. I didn’t feel like it was “deep.” Tabby Naps used the same moves they always do, and i feel like it was a rerun of the suitcase hip hop Mark and Chelsie did, only unskillfully danced. This was one piece i hope i forget.
Overall, i’m thinking that Eliana and Cyrus should be sent home. I was impressed with Janelle, and i think George is my favorite dancer this season so far.
After last night, Top 3 girls: Audrey, Whitney, Tiffany
Top 3 boys: George, Cheon, Matt
Not crazy for: Eliana & Cyrus
Call me crazy, but I was not all that impressed by Travis’ Titanic piece. Wayyyyy too lifty & chaotic, and had he not told us at the beginning that it was about the Titanic, I would have been clueless as to what he was trying to convey. I think the praise the judges heaped on it was a bit OTT.
I think the two couples to really watch from here on out are going to be Cole & Lindsey and Darien & Janelle. Both couples annihilated their routines, and seem to really mesh well together. The night really belonged to Cole, though, IMO – as I was telling a friend on Twitter last night, he must really have some ninja skills, because I think he had everyone convinced that he was only a martial arts guy…but from the way he handled that paso, I would have sworn he was ballroom baby (turns out he has actually has done some competitive ballroom). Add to that the fact that he has had some contemporary, jazz, and ballet training (and his sister Cara is a member of Fanny Pack from ABDC), I think he’s quite possibly the most well-rounded contestant this season…and he’s my pick to win
Jury’s still out on Amelia & Will for me. They did well last night, but I definitely think they’re a quirky couple that may struggle with ballroom & Latin – and Nigel seemed ready to give Amelia the heave-ho in Vegas, so I would not be surprised if he turned on her again if she slips up.
Alexa & Daniel = quite possibly the most bland, unengaging couple I’ve ever seen on the show. I feel like they both kinda half-assed that Sean Cheesman routine, as the only expression either of them could really muster the whole time was a confused smile. Very much reminiscent of Ryan & Rickey last season – very skilled, technically strong dancers that never seemed to connect emotionally with the dances they were doing. But with all of the hype surrounding Alexa in Vegas (and the fact that she’s part of the Travis Wall posse), I’m fully expecting the judges to give her at least 3 strikes before they cut her.
I wouldn’t be so quick to write off Cyrus & Eliana. Cyrus may be very untrained and rough around the edges, but he seems to be a fan fave, and he’s paired with the most technically strong dancer on the show – I don’t think that’s any coincidence, and is probably an attempt to give Cyrus a fighting chance against some of the stronger dancers. I think they’re probably trying to recreate the magic of Twitchington or Legacy/Kathryn – a very untrained hip-hopper with a technically strong ballet/contemporary girl. I just hope it works in their favor, and doesn’t turn into more of a Cedric/Faina or a Robert/Miranda pairing, where the hip-hopper just seems to bring down their partner.
Courtney: your observations are incredibly astute. I pretty much agree with you on all counts, particularly regarding Cyrus/Eliana and Alexa/Daniel.
Phenom- you have to remember that this was a broadway piece. And it was very specifically that it was from Hairspray. If you are at all familiar with Hairspray and know the scene of this song, then it made perfect sense. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it.
