Top 16 Performance thoughts
Great opening from Pharside and Phoenix from the crew Academy of villans. Amazing costumes as well.
Misty Copeland is back on the judges panel and Nigel decided to sit in the middle. Can’t say I was too surprised by the bottom six.
Tonight’s show made up for last week’s show. Overall it was fun and entertaining. Anyone notice a song that was reused from a previous season. Tyce used the song Mosquito’s tweeter for his jazz number…which was used in season 8 for a tap with Jess and Nick.
Also looks like we have another SYTYCD couple in the making…Rudy and Jacque. It has work out so far with other couples, Twitch and Allison are married and Lauren and Dominic are still together.
Judge went with America’s bottom 2 this week. What are your thoughts?
Hey Amanda, I thought I would post my top 9 this week as well:
Girls:
1. Valerie Rockey: it is something about the Viennese Waltz that can make any girl performance look excellent. Valerie was always good, this just made her look much better.
2. Emily James: she was always good at contemporary/jazz and she rocked again this week.
3. Bridget Whitman: she surprised me, there was a playfulness and strong performance that I normally don’t see from her.
4. Tanisha Belnap: this was a brilliant routine and she did it justice.
5. Jourdan Epstein: big improvement this week. It is probably the best I have seen her perform.
6. Jacque LeWarne: same level as Jourdan but seeing as Jourdan had shown improvement, I put her higher on the list. Not the best routine to show off what Jacque can do though.
7. Brooklyn Fullmer: almost completely outshone by Casey. She did well in parts but was a bit awkward in others.
8. Carly Blaney: very forgettable performance for both people involved. I just remember the costumes, not the moves.
9. Jessica Richens: this performance was very amateur.
Guys:
1. Casey Askew: performance of the night
2. Teddy Coffrey: outstanding performance for a non-contemporary dancer (on par with Serge from last week).
3. Rudy Abreu: I finally saw what the judges see in Rudy. He does compensate for technique with performance but his technique wasn’t bad here either.
4. Ricky Ubeda: there was a lot of contemporary moves in this waltz. It made him look better than what he was. The performance was very very solid though.
5. Zack Everhart Jr.: I liked his performance but his position on this list is restricted by the choreography. It wasn’t typical hip hop but at the same time wasn’t difficult enough to place him higher.
6. Emilio Dosal: I didn’t think he would be good outside his genre but he didn’t do too bad. Bridget did much better though and the jive all in all was looking a bit slow from his performance level.
7. Serge Onik: bit forgettable a performance like the judges said
8. Stanley Glover: I just don’t seem to like this guy. Like I said earlier, he is wonderful with tricks and downright boring every other time.
9. Marcquet Hill: He looked very clunky on stage. If Jourdan wasn’t sharing that stage, I could have sworn he wasn’t even doing contemporary.
I agree Casey had the performance of the week. Anyone who hadn’t noticed him before will now. I thought the judges were great too in not seeming so harsh…well Nigel anyways.
I felt bad for Jessica and Stanley cause for me I had a different dance running through my head. Nick and Jess tap to the same song was more memorable for me.
