SYTYCD Alum Announced as a New Pro on DWTS
Good Morning America announced the Professional dancers who will be on the Season 19 of Dancing With the Stars. Now normally I wouldn’t blog about this because I expect to see the Ballroom Alumni joining DWTS as a pro or part of the Troupe, but who was announced shocked me cause I didn’t see it coming. So who was chosen to be a new pro for Season 19?
ALLISON HOLKER! Honestly, I still don’t really know what to make of this news. Here’s the thing DWTS is mainly ballroom and in recent seasons contemporary and jazz have been included. Allison is a fantastic dancer there is no question about that, but my question is can she choreograph for ballroom or will someone be helping her? I do wish her the best and can’t wait to see what star she will be paired with.
Thoughts?

It’s a lot easier to teach a classical dancer to do ballroom than the other way around. Core, arm feet. I’m sure that being from Utah she’s trained in both classical and ballroom. She is brilliant and will be loved for her talent, personality and the choreography should be better than the latest SYTYCD grads that have been on the last couple of seasons. Love Allison! She is an epic performer.
Very true Diana. I think she’ll be great too, I just needed to put what went through my mind this morning.
The thing that worries me a bit is how she’s going to be as a teacher. She’ll be teaching ballroom to a complete novice. It’s one thing for a contemporary dancer to dance some ballroom, it’s another thing for that dancer to teach and choreograph ballroom.
We’ll see.
I genuinely hope she does well. DWTS seems to be slowly moving away from ballroom dances as the core of it’s show with the addition of contemporary and jazz. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see them add hip-hop or bollywood to the mix. I wouldn’t be happy about it, but I also wouldn’t be surprised.
I do see the show giving Allison and her partner Comtemp. as their first week dance to kind of ease her in.
