Courtney Galiano and Shane Sparks Judge Knicks City Dancers Tryouts

Written by: John

UPDATE: Check out pictures and video from the Knicks City Dancers tryouts.

Courtney Galiano and Shane Sparks
The Knicks City Dancers are officially holding open auditions for those wanting to dance for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Courtney Galiano, former Knicks City Dancer and of course a “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant, will be sitting next to Shane Sparks at the auditions. They will be watching the talent that will fight for a spot on the Knicks City Dancers squad.

Auditions for Sunday, June 28th @ Madison Square Garden! Get more information on the auditions at the Knicks City Dancers website.

It makes a lot of sense for Courtney Galiano to be there as a judge for the Knicks City Dancers. She was one before and is a great dancer. I’m not exactly sure why they have Shane Sparks as a judge. Not that I blame Shane. Sounds like a great job to me.

So You Think You Can Dance Top 16 Quick Hits

Written by: John

“Are we getting a little sick of Mary Murphy? YES, WE ARE!” Credit to kdbennett I think someone should go through and count how many times Mary Murphy says “Yes, we are!” Does she do that to reassure herself that other people agree with her? Maybe I should stop writing about Mary. She makes me sick.

Caitlin and Jason have got to be the prettiest couple ever on SYTYCD.

Is Randi Evans mormon? Springville, UT is like 98% mormon so I’d think she is. I can’t imagine how she felt about the butt routine. I’m watching the Utah newspapers for an article about this.

In a surprise for me, Kayla and Kupono actually put together a very nice routine with nice lines. Probably not enough to get votes, but I’m surprised that Kupono didn’t bother me more.

Janette Manrara enjoys being a loan officer? She’s the best looking loan officer I’ve ever seen.

Was it just me or did Brandon look like he had 2 locks in his locking. It felt a little awkward and almost spastic.

Will Melissa and Ade ever stop shocking me with good performances? I keep thinking their going to fall off the cliff sooner or later. So far they’ve shocked me with how good they’ve been every week. Only couple that I think has gone 3 for 3 on awesome dances.

Ok, I’m off the Asuka and Vitolio wagon (can’t be a band wagon since they never were on it). I really wanted to like Asuka and Vitolio. Not sure why, but I thought I should like them both. Just not happening for me anymore. I’m done.

Karla has become my favorite dancer of this season. I can’t think of much I don’t like about her.

Jonathan might have become my least favorite dancer. He just looked awkward.

The judges slammed Jeanine and Phillip, but I don’t think America will. They got lucky with a pretty interesting routine by Tyce.

So You Think You Can Dance Fan Tweets

Written by: John

Today, I sent out a request to hear people’s thoughts about tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Here’s a quick list of people’s comments (with my own commentary in italics).

NICOLENICHOLS @tvblog @puresytycd now for the REAL obsession…I’m excited to see what kayla & kupono bring to the table
SYTYCD is an obsession for you? Not for me. Although I do like the show.

Anooptastic_fan @tvblog SYTYCD is gonna be awesome tonight… can’t wait!
Not much longer to wait now. Woot!!

ohmcmahon @tvblog whoever gets Hip Hop 2nite better kill it! im interested to see kayla & kupono’s partnership. will Mia choreograph a number 2nite?
Hip Hop has been disappointing so far this season. Here’s hoping for better. I think Mia does better with the couples choreography, so I hope she’s on tonight too.

tkdsoulkat @tvblog I can’t wait for tonights show. I’m loving the addition of Louis as a coreographer.
Louis Van Amstel has been better than expected. He was ok on Dancing with the Stars, but he’s done well on SYTYCD.

tatephoto @tvblog I’m so pumped up! I want to see Kayla get those votes to be NEVER in the bottom three again. She is THE winner.
I love fans. Last week’s surprise bottom 3 for Kayla might grant you the wish by motivating all of her fans.

Laurabo @tvblog SYTYCD is the best reality show on TV! creative, fun, love it!
Can’t argue with you there. Although, I’m a bit partial to Amazing Race as well.

SPOILER: martywtheparty @tvblog i was at the taping for tonights episode yesterday afternoon/evening…not any AMAZING dances, but some fun ones :]
Well, maybe a mini spoiler. I’ll ignore this and hope you’re wrong;-)

tazzbones_inc @tvblog i love sytycd i definitely think its gonna be interesting
Always is.

Tamyra88 @tvblog hopefully its better than last week.
I didn’t mind last week, but certainly wasn’t in my top 10 episodes of SYTYCD.

MonstersDance @tvblog We are excited to see Tabitha & Napoleon Dumo’s group piece on Thursday & also see The Beat Freaks perform with The Vernonicas
Nappytabs is back on Thursday? Awesome. The Beat Freaks will be awesome and The Veronicas music has been one of the most popular on SYTYCD. Looks to be a good Thursday for special guests.

CdnFanGurl @tvblog I am a fan of Melissa but she needs to bring it tonight
I’m a fan as well. She’s brought it so far for me. I’m just sad that America doesn’t seem to be warming up to her.

deilia @tvblog I’ll HATE a song on the radio & then see them dance to it on SYTYCD and immediatley fall in love with that same song!
Isn’t it amazing how dancing can completely revolutionize a song? SYTYCD has done that dozens of times for me. Now, whenever I hear a song I don’t like I imagine someone dancing to it. There’s no doubt that SYTYCD has the best music on TV.

ThisIsCarissa @tvblog I’m waiting for Mia to get ahold of a great contemporary couple and pretty much any Kings of Leon song. That would be my ultimate!
I’d like to see Mia and Brandon in a room.

pamlarson412 @tvblog @icounsel4food I sure hope kupono is man enough for Kayla! I love her and I fear he is gonna drag her down. Boo
Is anyone man enough for Kayla. She’s quite the woman.

ImaPEEP @puresytycd kupono/kayla=mark/chelsie from season 4. Karla/John, asuka/vitolio will probably be in bottom. john/asuka, soon, will be gone.
I’m not totally with you on the Kupono/Kayla = Mark/Chelsie comparison, but I’ll reserve judgement until after tonight.

davidklayton @puresytycd Prediction: Evan kills it! Pono doesn’t do well with Kayla. Kayla makes really sour face. Mary blows out Nigels eardrums
Kayla’s faces are priceless! Reminder to Self: Get mute button ready for Mary

lorfna @puresytycd I read the spoilers, a bit worried for Pono&Kayla’s genre, but i’m hopeful they’ll do great. Excited for Karla&Jon’s genre.
SPOILERS (kind of): I love seeing the various dance styles people get.

SharonSelnik @puresytycd I’m wondering how the new pairing of Kayla and Kupono will work. It’s got to be hard to get a new partner after losing one.
Kayla and Kupono’s partnership could be the intrigue of the night. Changing partners can sometimes be a good thing. I just don’t see these 2 meshing well.

happychamorro @puresytycd Last week’s hip hop was a bust. Poor Shane. Hopefully this week’s routines will be bester.
I don’t think Shane brought his best choreography last week either. The dancers and Shane share the blame in my book.

AnnaE55 @puresytycd couldn’t say as I haven’t seen it yet and I stay clear of spoilers. I always get giddy on shows days though!
I stay away from spoilers as well. However, that doesn’t stop my predictions. So, why does this show make people giddy? Not saying that I, a man, would get giddy over SYTYCD *manly grunt*

moniquita26 @puresytycd well I don’t think I’m “feeling” this whole Kupono and Kayla pairing….will be interesting to watch.
Lots of people feel Kupono. Even more feel Kayla. The pairing just seems off.

kdbennett @puresytycd Do we know who the guest judge is?
Haven’t heard, but I think the TWoP forums have the best spoilers from what I’ve heard.

LuvizBlind @puresytycd I’m a DVR fan. Haven’t watched it yet, but love the show. Guess to be a part of twitternation I need to start watching real time
You can be part of twitternation and watch it on DVR. Just start watching the DVR’d version of SYTYCD about 45 minutes after the show begins. Then, you’ll end about the same time we do;-)

bentsinister @puresytycd I watch it but I don’t have much to say about it. Still miffed at both eliminations last wk. Interested to see Kaypono.
Many were miffed like you. However, the miffing is just going to get worse as we progress. The dancers are too good this year.

SPOILER Stunningstarr @puresytycd – Personally I’m super excited for Dave Scott to be back. I just love him. A bit worried about Phillip though – Broadway?
Did you say Dave Scott? I forgot about him. I’ve really liked some of his stuff in the past. Glad he’s back. Phillip could be in trouble if your spoiler is right.

EyreAffair @puresytycd i predict it will be even harder to find someone to go home! such good people this year!
I’d put money on this prediction. Although, maybe not for 2 weeks.

Make sure to follow @TVblog or my new @puresytycd twitter account to get the latest updates and to participate in future posts like this one (assuming people like it).

Ashley Valerio and Max Kapitannikov Elimination Interview

Written by: Max

Hello all, I am ecstatic to be publishing my first post!

I’d like to introduce myself a little bit. My name is Max. I’m from Montreal, Canada, and I love everything SYTYCD. I’ll be helping John out with posting, and maybe even with the Canadian version of the show, starting this Fall. I’d also like to say that if you, the reader, have any criticism whatsoever on any of my future posts, do not be afraid to vocalize it. Good, bad, I welcome it all.

Now, Ashley Valerio and Max Kapitannikov’s Collective Elimination Interview – Watching this interview, you’d never know it was because they were kicked off the show. Nonetheless, I felt that Ashley’s advice at the end was very inspirational. I am definitely sad to see the both of them go after so much hard work.

The Latest So You Think You Can Dance Tweets

Written by: John

This is my first edition of what I believe will be many posts talking about the various tweets being sent on Twitter by those related to or on So You Think You Can Dance. Twitter has really become a great way to be able to connect with So You Think You Can Dance. It’s how I got my interview with Bollywood choreographer Nakul and how I was able to connect with Nappytabs for a future interview (assuming things don’t fall apart). Anyway, you can check out our list of So You Think You Can Dance twitter accounts to stay up with your favorite people from SYTYCD. Otherwise, here’s our quick summary of some of the things happening on twitter related to SYTYCD:

Simon G. Jewelrys Spring Bling Benefit For The Lili Claire Foundation

Snap, Crackle, and Pop wrote a nice piece covering Lacey Schwimmer’s distaste for the current season of So You Think You Can Dance. Here are Lacey Schwimmer’s tweets about SYTYCD. Seems like she should have had a lesson in PR before sending these out, but I’ll let you be the judge. Here they are:
“Is at home watching a certain reality show….and is very disappointed :/”

“a certain reality show is starting to get on my nerves. no longer professionals….just generic…blah”
and
“uhhmm im sorry im beeing catty but im like gasping for air on how bad it is this season.”

About Max being cut she tweeted, “honestly hes no partner dancer….yuck”

“maybe you forget i went to top 4 on sytycd? and have more qualifing dance credits than many.”

“i never said i wasnt greatful….infact i love it for what it has done for me and my brother and friends.”

“all 3 people who are not liking my opinion… relax….i know what dancing is. and im allowed an opinion…sorry you feel the need to attack.”

I think that most people know that Nigel Lythgoe was having surgery this weekend. Nigel had to miss the SYTYCD season 6 auditions in New Orleans, but is suppose to be back for the show on Wednesday. Nigel tweeted the following after his surgery, “Post-op news. The surgery was a complete success. I now have permanent earplugs!!!! Only kidding, my disc op was evidently completed well!”

Nigel also sent the following tweet to Paula Abdul, “@PaulaAbdul a very very Happy Birthday. I do hope you’re coming to mine. Are you going to choreograph on SYTYCD this year?” Could be interesting and good for ratings to have Paula Abdul on So You Think You Can Dance. I’m not so excited to see her on the show, but it should be a bit of a ratings boost and great to get a big name on the show. Better than that lip syncer.

Adam Shankman sent out this tweet, “Me, @danabrunetti, and the real Deeley. She’s goin on Twitter soon, get ready! http://yfrog.com/0wvw4xj” Did he just say Cat Deeley would be on twitter soon? We’ll be watching for this. I can’t wait.

Lil’ C tweeted about the So You Think You Can Dance 6 auditions, “Jus saw some New Orleans Bounce!!!! It was Bucc!!!!” and “Found some diamonds in the rough yesterday, and hoping that we unearth more gems in todays auditions…operating on no sleep, bucc’n it out!” and “It’s been a very long audition day in New Orleans folks!!!!!! A very long day indeed, and I’ve only used the word “Bucc” 1x”

Let me know if you like this. Maybe we should turn it into a regular post. Good news is it looks like I’m going to be bringing on some help. Not enough of me to go around. Watch for that soon.

Random Thoughts on the SYTYCD 18 Elimination Show

Written by: John

I must admit that I always get in a little bit of a funk the day after the So You Think You Can Dance elimination shows. I get so involved in the comments from my SYTYCD power rankings, on my twitter account and of course in the SYTYCD music, that the day after I usually just need a little break. So, in the future if you see me kind of disappear, then now you know why. I just need to bring on a second person to help me post to this blog. Any takers?

Now on to my random thoughts…

Bottom 3 Couples – Anyone that says they knew that those 3 couples would be in the bottom 3 is smokin something fierce. What a shocker. I bet Nigel and the show are loving that. Seriously though, when have they ever had 3 different couples from the week before. It hasn’t and that’s what’s so amazing. Most shocking of all was that Asuka and Vitolio weren’t in the bottom 3 and Kayla and Max were in the bottom 3. This actually might turn out to be a really good thing for Kayla, because now her fans will kind of wake up and start voting for her more. Maybe they just got a little bit complacent in the past since she did dance so well.

Solos – I don’t know why, but I’m still not such a big fan of the solos. I think people like Hok and Dominique from past seasons kind of spoiled us with great solos. The solos have been rather lack luster for me. I’m not sure I can really remember one amazing moment from any of the solos. I guess Phillip just needs to be in the bottom 3 to rectify it.

Max Gone – I think it’s unfortunate that Max got sent home. He worked so hard and really laid it all out on the line. That should be rewarded. Unfortunately, I’m afraid his look was the reason he got sent home. That just doesn’t feel right. I think maybe the judges should just be removed from this part of the equation altogether.

Ashley Gone – This was not really a surprise for me. However, I was honestly sad she’s gone. There’s something about her that makes her not as likable and I get that. However, Ashley really found a soft spot in my heart when I think of how many times and how hard she tried to be on the show. I would have liked to see her a couple more weeks. That said, I want to see Kayla and Caitlin more.

Shameful Lip Sync – Seriously, could that singer (Kristinia DeBarge) have looked any more like she was lip syncing? It was dreadful to even watch. The dancers were better than Sean Kingston’s dancers, but the lip syncing has got to go.

Amrapali Ambegaokar – I preferred the Indian dancing she did on Superstars of Dance more than her performance on SYTYCD. However, there’s absolutely no arguing that she has amazing talent. I can’t imagine how much practice it must take to do what she did. I wonder what Nakul Dev Mahajan thought of it.

Quick Hits:
-Mia’s been hanging with Wade Robson or Brian Friedman I think.
-The Lil C sequence was awesome
-Cat Deeley looked awesome in that suit. Much better than the previous red sheet.
-Kayla’s face was priceless when she was in the bottom 3
-Nice SYTYCD 6 promotion using Ryan Kasprzak
-Wednesday SYTYCD starts to get some competition with America’s Got Talent. Don’t they know they shouldn’t overlap my shows?!?!

Judy Garland Tribute By Katie Holmes on So You Think You Can Dance

Written by: John
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at the White House Correspondents Dinner, Washington

More details are coming out about Katie Holmes possible appearance on So You Think You Can Dance. A local ABC station reports that Katie Holmes will be doing a tribute dance to Judy Garland. They also quote a witness who said the following:

For the routine, a witness tells Us that Holmes will don an all-black outfit, including a velvet fedora, patent-leather heels, and nylon stockings. Eight male dancers will kick up their heels alongside the actress in matching suits and ties. The number ends in a flourish with Holmes tossing her fedora in the air for one of the men to catch.

“[Holmes] is killing it,” a source tells Us.”She looks incredible. She is just doing an amazing job. Everyone is absolutely floored by how talented she is.”

A custom set was made for the production, which gives the illusion that Holmes is performing on a rooftop against a sky backdrop, acccording to the witness.

The article also says that it might happen on tonight’s performance instead of for the 100th SYTYCD episode on July 8th. I guess that’s what they do when the surprise performance gets leaked to the media.
