So You Think You Can Dance Las Vegas Week Music – Episode 1

As I’ll be doing throughout the season, I plan on posting all of the So You Think You Can Dance 2009 music. So far the music from this season has been amazing and I don’t expect that to change. However, the Las Vegas week music is sometimes harder to figure out than other weeks. So, I’m posting this early so that people can leave comments as they figure out the various music from So You Think You Can Dance Las Vegas week episode 1. I plan on updating this post throughout the night.

As a side note while you wait for the start of SYTYCD, Ash Koley’s “Don’t Let Your Feet Touch Ground” Ash Koley - Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground - Single - Don't Let Your Feet Touch Ground is now on iTunes for those who wanted to download the song, but it wasn’t available.

Closing Montage showing the final solo performances was to the song “Shot Away” (Buy Single on Amazon) by Pawn Shop (Although many people say this sounds a lot like “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed - Gimme Shelter, the words are close but not the same)

During the end credits was the song “Dance With Me” Old 97's - Blame It on Gravity - Dance With Me by Old 97s

**I counted up the number of different pieces of music on tonight’s episode and I counted 83 pieces of music. Granted a number of the songs were used a couple times and some of it was just background music that no one cares about, but that’s still a lot of music. I guess it’s hard to do much dance without music.

Predicting the So You Think You Can Dance Top 20

My fellow So You Think You Can Dance friend posted their potential So You Think You Can Dance 2009 Top 20. I love the idea and if I hadn’t been spending so much time on the So You Think You Can Dance music, I’d do the same (in fact, I did previously post a few So You Think You Can Dance 2009 top 20 locks. However, that was only after the first audition. Now the auditions are complete and we’re going into Vegas. So, despite my lack of time, here’s Nate’s potential top 20:

The Top 10 Boys
Sammy Ramirez (LA)
Maksim Kapitannikov (New York)
Evan Kasprzak (Memphis)
Phillip Chebeeb (LA)
Chimezie Nwosu (New York)
Marico Flaka (Memphis)
Brandon Bryant (Denver)
Peter Sabasino (New York)
Alex Wong (Miami)
Ryan Kasprzak (Memphis)

The Top 10 Girls
Natalie Reid (Denver)
Jeanette Manrara (Miami)
Bianca Revels (LA)
Kayla Rodamski (Denver)
Kelsea Taylor (Seattle)
Gabi Rojas (New York)
Megan Kinney (Note: NOT Caitlin. We may have only seen like 15 seconds of Megan, but I was captivated) (Miami)
Priscilla Marrero (Miami)
Asuka Kondoh (LA)
Anna Dunn (Miami)

His locks for the So You Think You Can Dance top 20 are: Evan Kasprzak, Phillip Chebeeb, Brandon Bryant, Natalie Reid, Bianca Revels, Gabi Rojas, and Asuka Kondoh.

I have to disagree with a couple of the choices. The guys actually look pretty solid. I’m a little scared the Phillip Chebeeb might not make it, but then again they need a bit of diversity of talent in the top 20 to make the show more interesting to watch.

Where I have to disagree is with the top 10 girls. I’d probably take Kelsea Taylor off the list since she was wonderful in her style, but she might not be able to go beyond her own unique talent. I wouldn’t be surprised if by some weird act Natalie Reid doesn’t pull through. Possibly Mia’s choreography or something. I also have to put Caitlin Kinney into my top 10 girls. She was fantastic. Caitlin Kinney and Kayla Radomski were my two favorite auditions for this season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Man, just as I say that I look through the rest of the list and realize that there are so many talented people on that list. I’m still surprised that the ballroom dancers haven’t been showing up. No Chelsie Hightower on the list. No Benji Schwimmer or Lacey Schwimmer for that matter. Although I do think it’s good that Asuka Kondoh is on the list.

Anyone else as excited as I am about this week’s So You Think You Can Dance? I just wish I would have gotten in contact with the So You Think You Can Dance producers when they were actually doing the Las Vegas auditions and found a way to go and check out the talent first hand. Maybe next season.

So You Think You Can Dance 2009 Top 20 Chosen

I must admit that I’m very excited that Nigel Lythgoe has chosen to get on Twitter. I’m not sure how happy Fox and So You Think You Can Dance is about him being on Twitter, but I love getting little tidbits of information like the one Nigel just posted 3 hours ago saying the following:

“We have just chosen our Top 20 and informed them. Excellent dancers, exciting prospects and a few risks!!?”

Time to start discussing who we think will be part of the now chosen So You Think You Can Dance 2009 top 20.

I’ve already predicted Natalie Reid, Brandon Bryant, and Kayla Radomski to make it into the So You Think You Can Dance season 5 top 20. My prediction is a combination of how great they danced and also how much attention SYTYCD has given to them on the show. SYTYCD likes to build the story lines early I think.

Yes, that means I’ve left Gabi Rojas out of my SYTYCD season 5 top 20. If I’m wrong, that’s good with me. She is a great dancer, but I’m predicting her having trouble with other styles like ballroom.

Is there anyone from the SYTYCD 5 premiere that I should also add into the SYTYCD 5 top 20?

I’ll also drop a name that I heard might have made it to the top 20. My source wasn’t certain if she made it to the SYTYCD 5 top 20 or not, but we should at least see her on an upcoming show. Her name is Diana Vaden. I’ll be watching for Diana Vaden in an upcoming season and make a final judgment, but it’s fun to get little SYTYCD 5 spoilers like this. We’ll see how it all pans out.

Just call me Charlie...but where are my angels?

Gabi Rojas SYTYCD Season 5 Audition

Gabi Rojas really does have some interesting lines and interesting moves. I really liked this dance since she offered something that we hadn’t seen before. Too much of the contemporary dancing is the same moves over and over. She took the moves and made them her own. It was beautiful. Plus, her background story of the circus is great too. I’ll be interested to see her do other styles. I think she might have some troubles with some of the other styles of dance on SYTYCD. If Gabi Rojas can get the other styles, she has a great chance at the SYTYCD 2009 top 20. If she can’t, then she’s still been great to watch.

So You Think You Can Dance 2009 Premiere Thoughts and Music

UPDATE: If you want the music from other SYTYCD season 5 episode’s here’s where I’ll be posting the music from the most recent episodes of SYTYCD Season 5.

I must admit that I always find it a little bit difficult to write about the audition episodes of So You Think You Can Dance. They go through people so quickly that it’s really hard for me to keep up with everyone. So many new people and so many new names. It gets much easier once we make it to the top 20.

Until then, I’ll still provide random thoughts and other tidbits that hopefully you’ll find interesting.

I guess we now know why Nigel was interested in our response to Tiffany Geigle, Gabi Rojas and “Mutations” on SYTYCD 5. Tiffany Geigle was indeed interesting and inspiring. The thing that disappointed me most was that Nigel didn’t allow Tiffany Geigle to go on to the choreography round. Why not let her have a cool experience that she could get no where else? Maybe there were other reasons I didn’t know about.

The same gender ballroom guys I actually feel the opposite. They should have never been sent to choreography. I know that Nigel Lythgoe is getting flamed on the boards for his comments about these guys. However, I think they’re missing the point. These two guys weren’t very good dancers. I don’t care if it was a guy and a girl. They would have never been put through to choreography if they were a guy and girl. Did Nigel forget that these 2 guys fell on their backsides? Seriously, in dancing that’s the equivalent of a juggler dropping something. They didn’t deserve choreography after the fall.

I made a prediction on Twitter that Kayla would make the SYTYCD season 5 top 20. She just was an awesome dancer with an awesome look and an awesome story. The picture of her grandfather sleeping at her dance studio is just awesome.

The story of Natalie (Katee Shean’s friend) coming back this season was good too. I don’t personally think that Natalie has that special star quality that Katee had, but I do expect Natalie to make the top 20 this year, but bow out in the early stages of the show.

I know there are some more people I missed that should be mentioned. I’ll save that for tomorrow when I have a chance to review some of the videos. What I did miss on this episode was dancers that were kind of in that middle ground. I like the raw talents that are hard to select. It seemed like almost all of the dancers on the show tonight were clear cut either Las Vegas, choreography or out. Not too much actual deliberation.

Before I go, I did want to list a couple of the songs that I’m sure people will be looking for from the So You Think You Can Dance season 5 premiere:

Song at the beginning of the episode was “Pocket Piano (Joakim Remix)” DJ Mehdi - Pocket Piano - EP - Pocket Piano (Joakim Remix) by DJ Mehdi

I’ll keep adding songs to this list of SYTYCD 5 music as I find it.

Just call me Charlie...but where are my angels?

Tiffany Geigle, Gabi Rojas and “Mutations” on So You Think You Can Dance Season 5

I’ve found it really interesting to follow Nigel Lythgoe’s twitter stream. It’s perfect for fans of So You Think You Can Dance. He basically lets out little messages to get you excited about SYTYCD 5 and make you wonder what’s going to come next. Check out the following tweets from Nigel (his tweets are in quotes):

Possible So You Think You Can Dance 5 Contestants
“I will be interested in the feedback after people see Tiffany Geigle?”
Does this mean that there’s going to be a dancer on So You Think You Can Dance season 5 named Tiffany Geigle that he wants to know about. Or is Tiffany Geigle someone else in Nigel’s life?

“Cat just gets better and better. She’s great at the Brooklyn audition. Not sure if I like “Mutations” I do like Gabi Rojas though, excellent”
This is an amazing quote, because it’s hard to see how Cat Deeley could get any better. She’s by far my favorite reality tv host. Similar to the comment above about Tiffany Geigle, are “Mutations” and Gabi Rojas dancers we should know about on So You Think You Can Dance season 5?

Other Nigel Tidbits
“Sometimes we have to replace audition music when a track doesn’t clear. After they’ve danced. Nancy and her team do a great job”
Fans of SYTYCD have known this for a while. Some of the moves just don’t hit perfectly. I will say they do a pretty good job matching it up when it’s not the same music. As a side note, I’ll still be listing all of the So You Think You Can Dance 2009 music again. I even posted some SYTYCD 5 Music suggestions.

“The reason SYTYCD is following itself in September is Fox wants to move it to Fall so next year you will only get 1 Season.”
I guess we’ll live with 1 season. Although, 2 seasons of So You Think You Can Dance is much better.
