So You Think You Can Dance Results Show Music
Could anyone have imagined that it would be this hard to send someone home on SYTYCD? I don’t remember it ever being this hard. Seems to say a lot about the quality of the dancers this year. Although, it seems to also speak to the fact that very few dancers really stand out over the others.
Enough of that, on to the list of tonight’s music:
Group dance: “Brand New Day” from The Wiz; Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Special Musical guest: Kelly Clarkson
SYTYCD top 14 Solos:
Karla Garcia: “Blackbird” by Dionne Farris Buy CD on Amazon
Vitolio Jeune: “Here Comes Goodbye” —Rascal Flatts
Kayla Rodomski: “Stupid” —Sarah McLachlan
Kupono Aweau: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” —Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
Jeanine Mason: “Moonlight Sonata” —Smart Sleep With Classical
Phillip Chbeeb: “You’ll Find A Way (Switch & Sinden Remix)” —Santigold
The female dancer’s elimination montage is to the song “Already Gone” by Kelly Clarkson
The male dancer’s elimination montage is to the song “On Your Own” by Green River Ordinance
If you’re looking for the previous SYTYCD music, you can find it here.
I thought Jeanine’s solo was AMAZING. It kinda made me want to see her on the bottom more often, just so I can see more solos. Fabulous. I also like Kupono’s solo…I can’t remember particulars (it has been completely eclipsed by Jeanine’s) but I remember enjoying it. I was surprised Nigel disliked it so much. Maybe I just liked the music…?
Stephanie–don’t worry…as soon as Jeanine’s in the top 10, she’ll do a solo every week! 🙂
(and I agree about her solo…unreal!!)
i was kind of disappointed to see that kupono stayed. I think that the contestants that left knew that they were leaving because they said “i just wanted to have fun” about their solos, as if they weren’t saving themselves.
Jeanine solo OWNED! And YAY for Moonlight Sonata!
I REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE SONG WAS THAT WAS PLAYING WHEN THEY SHOW THE HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE PERSON WHO GETS VOTED OFF, I THINK THEY PLAYED THE SAME ONE FOR THE GIRLS THIS WEEK AND LAST WEEK FOR ASUKA.. PLEASE HELP, I ONLY GET A SNIPPET OF IT AND IT REALLY MAKES ME WANT MORE ANYTHING THAT WILL LEAD ME THE RIGHT DIRECTION WILL HELP… THANKS
I have to join the chorus of “Jeanine rocked!”
She had always been one of my favorites but I was always worried she was being eclipsed by Philip. When they were in the B3 tonight, I was terrified because it could go either way. Now, I’m just so glad that she did well, AND that I got to enjoy that. I felt the musicality, technique and emotion through it all. I was sad it was so short – I’m hoping that PJ get a contemporary next week! 😉
Oh, and Beethoven ftw. Beats all that melodramatic wispy stuff the contemporary dancers love so much.
i was really dissapointed that they kept kupono. this is the second time his solo has been terrible. it is supposedly dance for your life, and he never steps up to the plate. not even close. i was mad when they gave him a free pass the first time his solo was awful, but to do it twice makes quite a mockery of the process. i don’t even know why they have them perform solos this season, it doesn’t seem like the solo ever has anything to do with the decision to send home a contestant.
I’m a fan of Kupono’s but even I’m surprised they kept him. He didn’t really fight, and it seemed like he wanted to go home – the solo was weak and this response to the host’s question (something like, “going home wouldn’t be so bad”) just made me believe he was giving up. But hey, what do I know. He looked incredibly relieved to hear he was staying, so maybe the stress was just getting to him / he was feeling a little burnt out.
Re: Karla, I guess I expected it but I’m still sad to see her go. I was rooting for her from the start, and I think she just had bad luck when it came to partners. Had she been started off paired with a judge/fan favorite I think she would have gone much farther.
Cassie, I agree about Karla. I think she’s a really strong and versatile dancer, but she didn’t get very good partners. She could’ve gone farther, although I’m not sure it would’ve been very much farther. The other ladies are so strong this season…as much as I like Karla, I’m not sure she could’ve beat out Jeanine, Kayla or Melissa on a head-to-head fight. Karla did have a great solo, though…clearly the judges’ decision was made before the solos were danced.
Stephanie – i definitely agree with you that their minds were made up.
Kayla made me sooo nervous! She is a favorite, but her solo was meh….i thought for a second that she was gonna go home. But that favorite thing worked in her favor. She’s so brilliant in the routines, and her Audition was so good. I dont understand why her bottom 3 solos have been weak. Maybe nerves are getting the best of her. I really hope she makes it to the top 10! She better STEP IT UP if she gets put in the bottom 3 again.
Geeeezzz the weeks are definitely going to get harder! I was a little bit surprised that Caitlin/Jason weren’t in the bottom 3. Not that they danced badly, I just think it wasnt the greatest out of all the routines. This week was the first week that I liked everything.
But this week’s bottom 3 was kind of surprising (except for one couple). Although it was really nice to see Jeanine and Philip do their solos. they were both great. i dont know what they were talking about when criticizing Philips solo. it was great! it didnt seem desperate. but alas…i am not the judge.
Can’t wait for next week!
i’m a little miffed that karla was eliminated. no, i was devastated. i’d always thought that karla had more promise than kayla. not that i like kayla as well, but karla strikes me as a better performer. all i have to say is that karla had some tough luck with all the partners she had pulling her down and the dance styles which were not very popular with the audience. her peak was the contemporary, i guess. that was the best we’ve seen of her, which is a shame because she could do so much more and didn’t get to show it.
kayla is a dynamic dancer as well. but i think her solos do not justify her staying. her solos have the technique, but it has neither showed her substance nor her heart for dancing. she does well with her couple dancers, which by itself is already a good thing. the 2 solos that she did, she did not dance from the heart. i had to agree with the judges that she just kicked around for her 2nd solo. if she had better solos, i think i would have supported her staying more.
well, i guess it’s a loss for the show if karla turns out to be a better dancer than she did on the show. after all, she has performed in 2 broadway shows, and i believe, will perform in many more. she has a promising future ahead.
i’m quite disappointed that kupono stayed. i like him, but i still don’t get his appeal to the show. his 2 solos has also not enough substance to keep him on the show.
vitolio has the power and strength. But I think the thing that is lacking from him is his personality, which is a shame cos he’s a powerful dancer. But I think that still does not justify him staying.
I just hope the the judges continue be wise and pick the correct people to stay. Not that I question their ability to pick out good dancers, but I feel that this week was a little unfair.
That’s just what I think.
Does anyone think it VERY unfair that the winner of SYTYCD only receives $250k? Winners of Survivor, Biggest Loser, Let’ Make a Deal, etc. receive $1 million. Seeing as how these dancers work SO HARD each week, and that a dancer’s career is usually very short, I think $1 million is very fair.
Kayla, I liked Phillip’s solo, too, but I could kinda see where the judges were coming from. He danced it faster than it felt like it should have been danced…if that makes any sense. These solos are REALLY freaking hard. You have 30 seconds to put together a piece that showcases your strengths, and yet still moves from beginning to middle to end. There have to be interesting transitions, there has to be a variety of “textures” (pauses, moments of quickness, interesting body shapes…) It’s hard. I would say it’s almost impossible, except that both Karla and Jeanine somehow pulled it off.
Buggy….at least the judges only have one more week to be able to play favorites, right? Then it’s purely a numbers game.
hey guys – does anybody know the piano song that is being played when Tony gets told he gets through and he is crying – it starts at exactly 2:14 secs – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP4VObxmVfQ
Vicki:
I didn’t really notice how small the prize was, but I guess the job market seems small compared to other occupations, $250k seems already like a lot of money. I think the incentive for national publicity is worth auditioning for. Shows like let’s make a deal, and survivor, aren’t really the same since they aren’t based on merit. Biggest Loser actually only wins about $250k but they gain so much more by losing the weight (no pun intended). I think the chance to showcase their talents is a huge plus along with winning that money.
I was kind of sad that Kupono stayed. I thought Vitolio’s solo was great. Even Karla showed a good deal of Diversity. However would they have won SYTYCD? Probably not. I think Kayla has a better chance at winning in the end. But I think Vitolio has more to offer than Kupono.
In the end, I thought Jeanine’s solo was Fantastic!
Vicki…I think the bigger prize (and one that all finalists get) is exposure and networking with established choreographers. I’m assuming all the finalists can get jobs wherever they want to go, or at least have a huge step up above other auditioners. That’s a pretty great prize. 🙂 That said, I wouldn’t mind if they got a bigger prize, either. I’m sure FOX is making plenty of money on this show, looking at the number of commercials they sell…
Did anyone else notice that Karla’s solo was the same dance that she used to teach a dance class pre-SYTYCD? John posted a link showing her dance it with a group of students, right after she made the top 20, to help us learn a bit about her before the show began. It was really neat to see a dance I actually recognized.
John’s Comment: I think this is the video you’re referring to: https://puresytycd.com/2009/06/04/karla-garcia-before-so-you-think-you-can-dance-top-20/
i can’t wait for the sytycd 100th episode on july 23rd. heard that katie holmes and mark and joshua from season 4 are performing together. and there will be a showing of the tape of the heidi and travis mia michaels contemporary routine (bench which won emmy) which they did specially for this episode. and also the ramalama bang bang routine wade did. and he’s dancing with the dancers too! Eee! 😀
hope it’s good. 😀
and you think tom cruise and suri would go? like this is the first time his wife is perfoming live or sth. i mean, if he went, the whole place will explode. 😀
I also would like to know if anyone knows the song they play when the girls get voted off and they show clips of their time. Can’t seem to figure out what it is.
Dawn Marie & Andie – The song that plays when the girls get voted off is Kelly Clarkson’s song “Already Gone” . The song that plays when the guys are voted off is Green River Ordinance’s song “On Your Own” . It has been the same for every guy and girl this season.
dang buggy! you got the scoooop! 🙂
i didnt know all that! that is so awesome that they are bringing back those dances! whoo!
They’re dancing the Wade Robson zombie dance?! That is my FAVORITE!! So excited! 😀
Wow!! So much to talk about.
I was so sad to see Karla go. She was great. However, it was kind of the kiss of death to be matched up against Kayla and Jeanine. You knew she had to go since they’re the judges favorite. Too bad so much of America probably doesn’t like Kayla. She just has something about her that I think irks a lot of America. Not sure why, since her performance this week (not her solo) was one of my favorites.
Kupono should have gone home. However, the judges certainly didn’t want to break up Kaypono. Oh well, their pairing was nice this week.
The only thing about Tom not being there is that my understanding is that the Katie Holmes dance was actually taped already and so it’s not happening live. I can’t remember where I read that, but I read it some where.
I’d love to see the bench routine again. Heidi was and might be forever my favorite dancer ever on SYTYCD. In fact, without her I’m sure this site wouldn’t exist. So, you can thank her for this site.
Sorry about not posting the music during the eliminations. I was just too lazy to copy and paste it. I’ll do it from now on.
So on Buddy Tv they have “ridiculously early spoilers” about that 100th episode which is covered int he link below:
http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/so-you-think-you-can-dance-wit-29753.aspx
Although The link itself leads to some of the memorable dances that happened in the last 4 years so I think it will be worth looking at. It made me go on a youtube run for some of my favorite dances as well.
man, the katie holmes thing is taped? i would’ve loved to see her perform live. 😀
love heidi too. 😀
