Top 12 Power Rankings
Okay, I’m taking over for Emilie tonight, so this should be interesting. I had originally planned to watch the show with Kathryn’s familiy, friends, dance teachers (who were my dance teachers too). However, due to other things, I will have to wait till next week. Hopefully we will see Kathryn in the top 10. It’s going to be a fun packed show with 12 dances and I’m going to give my thoughts on all the couples and their perfomances. Then I will attempt to rank them some how.
Ellenore and Ryan: 1st dance-Lindy Hop: So happy to see this style back on the show. Adam was right it was a great way to start the show. To be honest I couldn’t think of a better couple to perform this dance, at least for me.
2nd dance-Broadway: Loved this, the performance was fabulous. The best dance for these two for me some far.
Kathryn and Legacy: 1st dance-Jazz: Had to to be one of my favorite Sonya dances since the Garden. Loved that this really showcased her technique and she was able to use Legacy’s b-boy skills. 2nd dance-Vienesse Waltz: I felt like the story that was being told was their story. For me the Vienesse Waltz is always beautiful and I love watching it.
Karen and Victor: 1st dance-Tango: This was good for me and for the first time they have dance together, not to shabby. 2nd dance-Hip Hop: I actually liked the hip hop better than the tango. They had moments they were out of sync but I like the lyrical hip hop, so I didn’t quite agree with the judges on this one.
Molle and Nathan: 1st dance-Hip Hop: It was a cute routine, perhaps too cute on Mollee’s part. Overall a good dance and the dance wouldn’t be complete without Nathan ripping his pants. 2nd dance- Can Can: I agree the best couple to perform this dance. Was anyone else surpised that it was Tyce behind the choreography? I was, mainly because I thought there would have be another new choreographer. Just fun dance and I still can’t get the music out of my head.
Noelle and Russell: 1st dance-Samba: For me this dance was okay, I didn’t expect the review they got would be as good as it was. Their performance was the best part of the routine for me. 2nd dance-Contemporary: Their best dance of the night. I’m with Nigel I am starting to forget that Russell is a street dancer. You know the kinda remind me of Katee and Joshua, Katee was in the footage.
Ashleigh and Jakob: 1st dance-Lyrical Jazz: Another great Soyna routine. What else can you say about Jakob other than flawless. Also Ashleigh has continued to keep up with him and the have a great partnership. 2nd dance-Cha Cha: A role reversal for these two. So happy that Ashleigh was able to dance her style and Jakob kept up with her as I expected him to.
My top 2
Ryan and Ellenore
Kathryn and Legacy
middle 2
Ashleigh and Jakob
Russell and Noelle
bottom 2
Nathan and Mollee
Karen and Victor
So there you have it just my opinion of the night. It’s so hard to really tell who will be going home but for me I’m thinking it might be the end of the road for Victor and Karen. So vote for you favorite, I know I am time for me to put about fifty votes in for Kathryn and Legacy.
can you please list all the music that was danced to!
@Glory, I think the music should be up sometime soon.
something I forgot to put in my comments below was how happy I am to see that the show isn’t harping too much on Noelle and Mollee’s relationship. They did that so much during Vegas that I was kind of sick of both of them, but it’s been interesting seeing them develop into 2 very different dancers on the show. I think pairing Mollee with a young partner like Nathan kind of kept her in this “innocence” bubble, which I can’t say they’ve broken out of yet, even in their can-can tonight, though I did enjoy it.
However, it’s pretty amazing, looking at Noelle and Russell, what a difference 2 years can make. Russell is only 20, younger than I am, while Noelle is 18, but they seem to dance mature for their age. And they seem to have the most fantastic relationship which turns into great chemistry. I don’t know if Nathan and Mollee would have been able to pull of Noelle and Russell’s contemporary piece. Just food for thought.
Yeah, I agree with your list. I am sad to lose karen, but I think Karen and Victor will come back home tomorrow night..
BTW, Jakob was the best male dancer of the night! and Katheryn was the best female dancer of the night to me! I hope they will be a couple next week, it will be interesting combination!
I agree with the list also, though I might bump up Jakob/Ashleigh over Legacy/Kathryn.
Good show overall. The biggest disappointment for me was LaurieAnn’s hip hop number, but I didn’t dislike it as much as the judges did. I think she’s fantastic with the pop-jazz genre, but I think her style isn’t as attuned to what we expect from “hip hop” as it could be. Karen and Victor really tried, you could tell, but the performance wasn’t that great.
There were a couple of interesting comments last night. I was trying to figure out where the judges’ heads are in terms of elimination. It caught my attention when Nigel said to Kathryn and Legacy that he doesn’t know if they’re both necessarily safe. I think Kathryn’s one of the dancers that they definitely are keeping, even if she’s in the bottom three. Karen and Victor seem to be on the chopping block. Karen’s solo would probably have to be mind-blowing to save her. If Victor’s solo is impressive, he could probably push ahead of Legacy or Nathan. All contingent on who’s in the bottom three, of course.
So far from what I have read here and in other post, I’m all for putting Jakob and Kathryn together. If they got a comtemporary with either Travis or Stacey, I have no doubt that it will be wow moment. On a personal note I am so proud of Kathryn knowing that she will most likely be safe makes me excited for the tour.
I don’t think this will be as tough as the judges predicted but I don’t think the results will be as easy as they appear.
I think the bottom 3 couples will be:
Karen & Victor
Russell & Noelle
Mollee & Nathan
Victor will be the male that goes home. If he is in the bottom 3, he’s gone.
As for the girls, this is a tough one. Mollee has shown both strength and weakness and has suffered from multiple injuries on the show. She has also pushed THROUGH those injuries. It is unclear now if she has shown enough personality to push through. Noelle was out her first week due to injury and has shown only mediocre growth overall. She’s got beautiful form but she’s forgettable overall. Karen has had mishaps and beautiful steps, but her personality shows through more than the other two and she has been cited numerous times for having that “star” quality. It really is a toss up. That having been said (as Adam loves to say), for me, the only choice is Noelle. Karen and Mollee both bring so much more to the competition.
So my top 10 is:
Jakob, Ryan, Russell, Legacy, Nathan
Kathryn, Ashleigh, Karen, Mollee, Ellenore
I need Karen to go home this week. I know the judges love her, and I think she did some good work early on, but I like her less and less every week, which is not a good sign. I love Victor and would love to keep him (I’d be willing to get rid of two girls! lol), but I think it may be time for him to go.
IF the bottom 3 couples are Karen/Victor, Mollee/Nathan, and Noelle/Russell… Mollee and Nathan are both probably safe, because they tend to pull out all the stops in their solos. Russell should be (I certainly hope, because I want to see him on tour!) safe as well. I think Victor will go home, and either Karen or Noelle. It’s a bit of a toss-up, but I see more potential in Noelle. And she has a great personality. I’m not so sure Karen does.
Ashleigh and Jakob have my heart!!! Both their dances were incredible, but their friendship is just the sweetest thing ever! In the video, when she snuck up behind him and hugged him and he said “Don’t leave me”? Awww! And how he was hugging her after the last dance and looking at Cat like, “No, you can’t take her from me!” :):)
Your top, middle and bottom 2 are the same as mine. Woo. 🙂
@Ben: Oh, I totally disagree with you. I thought that Noelle was a “tagalong” to Mollee in Vegas when they were picking the Top 20, but she’s definitely made herself unique and powerful.
@Amanda: Great job. I was going to do a power rankings myself since going into Top 10 is a difficult one, but I agree with you entirely, so there’s no point. I think you did an amazing job predicting this. It will be hard to see Noelle/Russell in the Bottom 3, but I think they will be because of the samba. I don’t think either of them are going anywhere, though and I’ll revolt if the judges send anyone packing other than Karen. *They* might think she’s a star, but America keeps putting her in the Bottom 3 for a reason. Though, I definitely think that she hasn’t necessarily had the best breaks on the show considering she’s going through a divorce and Nigel has singled her out as “the sexy one,” so that she kinda gets attacked if she’s not sexy in a piece (even if she’s not supposed to be). That being said, she’s my least favorite girl at the moment. Kathryn has become my favorite. 🙂 Which makes me excited for her and you AND the tour.
You go girl. You predicted perfectly who was going home. Emilie might be scared for her job now;-)
