SYTYCD Dance Comparison
Now that we know all the All-Stars that are going to participate in Season 7 of So You Think You Can Dance, I thought it was be fun to look at some dances that – interestingly enough – used the same music in various seasons of the show. Though all dancers are going to be alumni, not all are to be a part of the All-Star pool. However, it’s always fun to reminisce.
Below are two videos that uses the song Right Here Waiting performed by Richard Marx.
The first is from Season 1 Week 4, a lyrical routine performed by Ashlé Dawson and Blake McGrath. Choreography by Tovaris Wilson.
The second video is from Season 5 Week 1, a contemporary routine performed by Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi. Choreography by Mandy Moore.
So who do you think danced it better? Which choreography do you prefer more?
I love Ade and Melissa’s better!
I have another one for you, Kherington and Twitch vs. Nico and Arassay from SYTYCD Canada Season 1. Both used “Don’t Touch Me” by Busta Rhymes. Kherington and Twitch were choreographed by NappyTabs and Nico and Arassay were choreographed by Luther Brown.

Poor season 1, from the glimpses I have seen, it was way tackier, and sure Blake over-the-topness, didn’t help things. Melissa an Ade’s piece is so much better!
I forgot to say that i LOVED melissa and ade’s piece, especially when she was in the split behind his head and he lifted her in front, so cool.
i guess i saw a different dance…
Thanks for posting Ashle and Blake! This just reminded me how awesome and underrated Ashle was. She is an AMAZING dancer even stated by Blake himself. She literally tackled all styles with ease but just could not get the popular vote and was always second fiddle. She made her partners look incredible (even Melody) and pushed her competition (Melody vs. Ashle in hip hop with Dan Karaty).
@Julia
I agree that it was pretty tacky back in the day so we can really see how the dances have evolved since season 1. Perhaps in season 1, it was more about showcasing the technique of the dancers in season 1 in order to get ppl to watch, vs someone to say “dude that was easy”
[…] thanks to Margaret for this tidbit, I figured that I would bring it out for you guys to […]
