Canada – Dates & Times for Season 3 Premiere August 15th!

Following one of its most successful seasons ever for original Canadian programming, CTV unveiled the fall schedule for So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

“In a challenging year, the creativity didn’t stop at CTV,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “Never before have we had such a strong slate of original programming in all genres, making it an easy decision to renew.”

Season 3 will begin on August 15 and after the audition episodes, performance shows will air on Wednesdays at 8pm with the half hour result shows on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.

The Season 3 audition tour travelled to five cities across the country – Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. SYTYCDC showcases dancers from across the country as they compete to impress an expert panel of judges.

Following each audition city, select competitors were invited to “Finals Week” in Toronto where they worked with some of Canada’s top choreographers. After a gruelling and challenging week mastering various genres of dance, 20 dancers earned a coveted spot in the SYTYCDC Top 20.

Chosen by the judging panel, this select group of dancers will perform in front of the nation. The public votes for their favourites following weekly performance episodes in which competitors are assigned partners and dance styles to perform, from hip-hop and krump to salsa, quickstep, contemporary and jive.

In the end, only one dancer goes home with the title of Canada’s Favourite Dancer and a $100,000 grand prize.

The Gemini Award-winning show is based on the Emmy Award-winning smash hit series created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe that premiered in 2005.

During SYTYCDC’s highly-popular second season, the series averaged 1.44 million viewers and ended with Lethbridge, Alta.’s Tara-Jean Popowich taking the title of Canada’s Favourite Dancer. The Season 1 winner was Montreal-native Nico Archambault.

Let’s Talk About Lissie

As I mentioned in the comments, I’ve been planning a “suggested music” list to post after Vegas Week and to go along with my “predicted music” list. I started the post on the 25th (Emilie’s Dream Music List) and #1 on that list is Lissie’s “Everywhere I Go, Lissie - Why You Runnin' - EP - Everywhere I Go, which aired tonight.

Though, I lied tonight in the comments when I called it my favorite song, because my real favorite, “When I’m Alone” isn’t available anywhere to download (that I’ve seen), though she does have a YouTube video for it. I listen to this song pretty much every day, I love it so much:

If you love Lissie as much as I do, check out her website. Also, Daytrotter has a free music session, (two actually) with her that you can download.

Oh and hey? You have to check out this version of “Everywhere I Go” she performed with Ellie Goulding. Amaaaaaaazing.

Hey Lissie? Will you give us a free mp3 download of “When I’m Alone” to offer our readers? Or put it on iTunes? I’m dying here… 🙂

SYTYCD S7 Dallas/Nashville Auditions + Vegas Week Thoughts

Wow, is that a mouthful.

So… my thoughts.

As always, I’m still processing. I’ll probably wait longer to post my thoughts after this, just because there’s so much going on, so much to talk about.

Margaret posted some spoilers earlier today and here’s the comment I put, which sums up a lot of my feelings about tonight’s episode:

Thanks, Margaret! I kinda get the feeling this is a “choreographer’s season,” more than any other. This is the time where, since they have to limit it to 10 (11) dancers, they have to decide who they most want to choreograph. And who can rise to the same level as the professionals, the All-Stars. They need dancers who are already at the “TOP 10″ part of their journey, even though we’re just now starting to watch them.

That being said, I think they’re kinda pushing the dancers through who they feel have the best chance of rising to the All-Stars’ level. And, of course they want the best *every* season, but I think it’s easier than ever for them to say to themselves, “not these season, it’ll have to be next” for dancers they might have cultivated a bit more in previous seasons. They love “journeys,” after all.

Or, as Marianya put it just now while we were chatting:

and one thing i noticed that the judges were saying when commenting on the dancers through auditions is that they are thinking in their heads, “is this someone i want to choreograph”

SYTYCD S7 Dallas/Nashville Auditions + Vegas Week Music

Considering how great the Season 7 music has already been, I’m super excited to see what tonight’s packed episode brings. I think Vegas Week is going to be even more intense than ever before, this season, so that should be interested.

As always, I’ll update this list as the show happens and I would appreciate any help y’all might provide. We’ve got the smartest readers/commenters on the Internet, in my opinion, so it’s always a pleasure to see the list firm up with all of your help.

Here we go…

[Marianya’s Addendum] According to commentor Jonathan the artist is Shawn McDonald… but since we still can’t find the song, here is Take My Hand for your listening pleasure Shawn McDonald - Simply Nothing - Take My Hand

Back from the break: song?

Outside in the line montage/intro Conor McLachlin: song?

Conor “Scooter Rocket” McLaughlin (actually not a bad singer, on wheels): am I crazy that this sounded Bowie-esque?
[Marianya’s Addendum] The only lyrics I could find is “scooter fly”… i wouldn’t be surprised if this is a “Scooter Rocket” creation… in which case I would say “wrong show man”.

No montage: a few song beats, nothing I could recognize

Bad dancer montage: Joe Purdy “Can’t Seem To Get Right Today” – Joe Purdy - You Can Tell Georgia - Can't Get It Right Today

Jordan Johnson audition: Lil Wayne “Da Da Da” – Lil Wayne - Rebirth (Deluxe Version) - Da Da Da Not quite sure about this. Somebody confirm? Confirmed! (By both beth and Marianya, so that’s good enough for me. Though, I’m thinking it’s a remix or something).

Nashville

Intro to Nashville: Halfway to Hazard “Welcome to Nashville” – Halfway to Hazard - Halfway to Hazard - Welcome to Nashville

Faith Looney (danced “flamenco” with her friend Kelsey): you know I suck at non-English lyrics! Help, please? [maria says this is Los del Rio’s “Algo se muere en el alma,” which isn’t on iTunes, so check out “San Sereni” – Los del Río - Fiesta Macarena - San Sereni for now.
