Do You Like the Home Visits?

P.S. I am in no way disparaging Lil C. I think a man is strongest when he’s unafraid to cry. Plus, it was clearly against his will. 🙂
6.10.10 AM Update: Wow, I’m seeing from the results that a lot of you don’t like the home visits. Anybody care to tell us in the comments why you dislike them?
I do like the home visits…. but I really don’t think it was fair for them to not have visited everyone. I think there’s enough judges and people related to the show, that everyone could have been visited. Its not fair to the ones who aren’t.
To me, there is already a clear winner for this Season. Right amount of personality, techinique, drive and heart.
Hint. This person has a first and last name.

Seems like a colossal waste of time to have the judges travel to some of the contestants’ homes just to tell them they aren’t going to be on the show. It’s like “Sorry buddy, you didn’t make it. But are you glad I stopped by to tell you in person, in your own home, in front of all your hopeful friends and family, and with cameras so that we can capture the heartbreak for the whole viewing audience to see?” Seems almost a bit cruel to me. Miracle mile seemed quicker and less painful, like ripping off a band-aid as opposed to peeling it off slowly. And as for the poor souls who didn’t even warrant a live visit and just received a phone call, I’d feel a little neglected if I were them, as if the judges didn’t even want to waste more than a few seconds of airtime on delivering the verdict to me, so as to free up more time to chronicle Nigel’s ridiculously long and increasingly less comical journey to Wapaukoneta.
Bring back the miracle mile. PLEASE 🙁
I didnt get to see this to express my opinion…though i did like the idea. So they wanted to try something new, if it was me I would want to be at home to get the news cause then I would have my family there to either celebrate with me or be able to console me. Plus I would imagine you could find out what you need to improve on.
I didn’t mind it as much as I thought I would, but it took up way too much time. I would have rather seen more of the finalists’ solo routines.
@Courtney: In theory, I agree with you. That was my concern before. But, I enjoyed watching the home visits that. It was a bit uncomfortable to watch Ryan get rejected with friends and family…but, the fact that Lil C had gone all that way to tell her no, to meet her family, etc., demonstrates that they really do want her to come back and they want her in the SYTYCD family. You know? The people who only warranted a phone call – ouch – might have to prove themselves more.
I just didnt think that it was fair not to deliver the news face to face to every one… and plus the mile was a good reflection for us to all remember every one and it was dramatic and everything… the family and friends just add flair, not drama.
Cheesy and wasteful! They’ve been doing such a good job introducing more and more art into the program, and then they took this American Idol-style bender that’s ridiculously over-dramatic. I want to see dancing, not driving around and crying.
I agree with Courtney as well, but I also felt bad for some of the judges and family members. Kent’s father was not happy waiting (and waiting) for Nigel, and I would not want to have been there to face the father, had he not made it. (Of course Nigel didn’t have to deliver a No in person, only over the phone) but I felt bad for Mary, Mia, and Little C. I’m sure having the family there helps when they’re rejected, but it shouldn’t be televised. They could tape everyone, but only show the ones who made it.

It’s better when the dancers get to celebrate with the other dancers that make it. It’s like the pinnacle of the whole Vegas week. They’re all caught up in the emotion and have these tight bonds.
Instead, in their homes, they’re sitting their blank faced on the couch and emotionless. Enough said.
The home visits were a collosal time waster. WTH do we have to watch Nigel fake getting lost then not wash his hands after using the Boyd washroom? All of that to tell the audience that Kent is from no man’s land Ohio? Please. Yes, little Kent from the country is checking all the Lithgow boxes, he wants an unknown, not highly trained, lots of personality…
except I’m not convinced he isn’t coached in his responses and the storeyboarding is just a little much. It’s all rather tiresome. I hope the kid delivers better than he has, because there is some redonkulas dancing, especially among the males this season.
I’d really rather see more of the dancing than the home visits.
I didn’t like them and thought they were uncomfortable to watch. I agree with Courtney & John’s posts. Those were my thoughts also.
