All-Star Billy Bell
Yeah, so Billy’s not an All-Star, but am I the only one who thinks he’s being treated like one? I love him, he’s a phenomenal dancer and he’s got what it takes to be an All-Star. But….it seems a little unfair to the contestants who haven’t gotten a fraction of the screentime/attention.
Let me know what you think.
Check out this great piece from Korbi at Zap2it.com where she calls Nigel to task for fooling both her AND Billy in regards to the either Billy/Alex Top 10 fake out.
Oh come on he got his second chance. I would have been so upset if he didnt make into the this season. After everything he went through last season getting sick to the point where he had no choice but to back out of the competition. He would have given Jakob some real competition last season. Im sure it was edited that way to create drama and suspense to see if Billy would make it.
@Amanda: I would’ve been upset if he didn’t make it, too. But…even if I hadn’t seen SYTYCDism’s spoilers, there was little doubt in my mind that Billy was going to make it. And there’s a new swagger about Billy – I kinda like it and I kinda don’t. 🙂 Yeah, he really would’ve given Jakob a run for his money.
@Amanda – I don’t think anyone’s complaining that he’s on the show this season (I would have been upset if he didn’t make it), but it’s more the fact that he’s being featured much, much more heavily than the other contestants this season. Aside from maybe the running joke of Kent being from a town in the middle of nowhere that no one can pronounce (which is getting really old really quick), there hasn’t been another contestant that has gotten as much airtime as Billy – I can recall seeing him in Vegas in almost every round, while dancers like Robert I can’t even remember seeing at all. Billy is great; I just think it’d be a bit more fair to the other dancers to at least give the impression of a level playing field this early in the season, rather than implying through his vast amount of screen time that Billy is the favorite to win.
Maybe I’m nosey, but is anyone else just the slightest bit curious as to just what type of illness was severe enough to force Billy out of the competition in season 6? I totally respect his right to privacy, but it must’ve been pretty bad if he gave up such an extraordinary opportunity…and the show’s been extremely vague about it. Hopefully it’s not something that was life-threatening 🙁
Emilie, I’m so glad you mentioned the new “swagger”. I was just talking to a friend of mine about that!! He’s unreal, but for my tastes, I was feeling Anthony Burrell more during this Vegas week. Is it just me, or is Kent the “new” Billy Bell?? Cute, talented, funny, humble…(oh, yeah, just started some drama…what? haha!)
@Courtney:
If I remember correctly, he had mono. If you don’t rest, it can cause your spleen to rupture. He couldn’t dance at Julliard last fall either.
@Courtney: Exactly! I guess it’s that I’m worried he’ll be overexposed before he even gets to dance and show folks who might not know him from last season what he can do.
@Beth: Yes!! I hadn’t had that exact coherent thought, but I know exactly what you mean re: Kent = new Billy. Let the drama commence!!
well like i said i missed all the vegas stuff because I was at concerts. i guess i will see for myself tonight
What?!? You mean the auditions show wasn’t the Kent show? I don’t know what I was watching but the auditions went pretty far in toning the expectations of both Alex and Billy down while giving the best edit of everyone to Kent.
Wordy McWord Leon. I was reaching for the Kent overkill button last night.
See, I thought there was relatively little about Kent’s dancing and much more about his hard-to-pronounce town (that’s really not that hard to pronounce since it sounds exactly like it’s spelled).
@beth Thanks for the info. I know mono can be a big deal if not treated properly, and on top of that, the poor kid was probably exhausted. Glad he’s ok now, but I guess I just don’t understand why they chose to be so secretive about it…it’s a fairly common ailment, and I don’t really know of any stigma attached to it other than it being called the “kissing disease” haha. Watch out, America – Billy Bell could be the biggest smooch bandit the show has seen since Jason in season 5! 😛 Kidding.
As for the Billy swagger…lol, it’s hard for me to hear the words “Billy” and “swagger” in the same sentence, because the kid seems sweet as pie and the quintessential boy next door to me 🙂 But maybe I do see it a TINY bit…a little more confidence, a little bit of sass in his demeanor. But I daresay that Kent is doing a damn good job of out-boy-next-dooring Billy – he’s just cute as a button and endearingly naive 😀
Oh, just to clarify, I don’t think Billy’s annoyingly swag-tastic or anything (lol), but he did have a little more “sass” this time around. 😉 I still think he’s great and awesome and all that!
@Emilie and Courtney, I’m glad I’m not the only one who picked up on the swagger Billy has this season. It’s not overkill, but he doesn’t seem as tentative as he did last season. His first solo had a lot more umph and a little more sass, I kinda liked it. And they mentioned him a lot, but the only time we really saw him perform and he was mentioned was his first solo, group and final solo. Lauren Froderman was mentioned a lot more, IMO.
@Courtney, Beth and Margaret: Yeah, sometimes I really like Billy’s new swagger. But other times, I’m wary. Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes, you don’t. 🙂
Yeah, I wouldn’t mind the amount of airtime Billy got if everyone had at least a little bit of airtime, which did not happen. I mean, with only 10 dancers it’s even more clear when you don’t know much about a contestant. Robert Roldan and Ashley Galvan were only mentioned in passing, every time.
I actually feel bad for the other contestants, because it seems to me that people are just going to keep on voting for Billy Bell, no matter what. He got more air time than everyone, and I think the ones that got less air time are going to be the ones voted off first. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he won. On sytycdfans.com, Billy already has like ten fans already, where most of the others have like 1 or 0. Its not fair to the other contestants. He’s a great dancer and all, but it’s still unfair because of his advantage in the competition. And just because he’d tried out before.
10 fans!!! Haha seriously ^^
That’s nothing, if you check some other sites with a more credible number of voters you’ll find that neither Billy or Alex has benefitted that much from their previous screen time. They have some fans but they do excel in their field so its justisifiable.
Kent is miles ahead in terms of popularity and will romp it the public voted for the winner at this very moment.
n.b billy’s swagger in that routine was there because the music and routine demanded it, he’s still pretty a dorkus.
@ leon: THANK GOD. What I meant is, 10 is a lot for that website. I know he has more, though. YAY KENT AND JOSE!!!
[…] But maybe only because I’d already read SYTYCDism’s spoilers and knew what was coming. As I’ve said, sometimes I like Billy’s new swagger, sometimes I don’t. I thought it was sweet that Robert was clearly about to give up his spot cause he thought Billy […]
he didn’t actually have a disease, he was starting his own dance company, a couple of my friends dance for….
Billy Bell deserved to make it onto the show … but now he’s ego is so big its annoying. No doubt, he’s a phenomenal dancer … BUT, last weeks results show he was the only contestant not to hug or congratulate the others … he just ran off the stage, as if he expected he was “of course” staying … Billy Bell needs to be knocked down a few pegs so his ego can clear the door. And the judges are no help there …
Oooh, I was wondering if there would be Billy Backlash due to the new ‘tude/swagger/ego. Do you think he’s in danger this week after his krump with Comfort?
