(sorry beth!)
byt WHY HASNT ADECHIKE BEEN IN THE BOTTOM YET?!?!
this guy gets way too many breaks for disappointing week after week. yes there was a bit of an improvement last night, but i find he connects way less with the audience than robert does, and yet for whatever reason robert keeps getting in the bottom.. gahh!
jose too, with the free passes every week just because hes a bboy. i dont find him near as interesting as past bboys like dominic, hok, or gev.
i think billy being in the bottom is a good thing, hopefully itll get that sass in check.
melinda is def going home tonight.. and its about time.
nice to see some old routines! and cant wait for next week with the changes!
oh and just watching mandymoores peice now, and i must say i like it! and i usually dont like her choreo at allll (other than the “table routine” of course)
PS WHERE IS DISCO THIS SEASON?!?! i hope it comes back!
Oh, and @Tammi…apparently there are a lot of voting folks out there who feel as I do, which is kinda cool, since I’m way outnumbered on here. 😉 I’ve never felt that he was “not connecting”, I guess. I’ve always felt like he did much better than the judges did. I’ve connected to him more than to Robert and Billy, for instance.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens after tonight. I think we will have gotten rid of most of the “easier” to call folks (relatively speaking) and it’ll get harder. I imagine Jose and Adechike will be on the list to go…and Robert (if he continues to fall into the bottom). I’m surprised that Lauren has managed to stay out of the bottom, really…she’s not impressed me much this season.
@beth: Thanks for posting the video of Courtney’s audition!
@tammi: I’m with you, sister. Except for bringing back disco. Yuck. I hate disco. It’s just the one choreographer, Doreanna Sanchez and she’s all played out.
@Tammi, yep, I’m with you too, re: Melinda, Adechike (but maybe not quite so stridently on my part, there are others I like less *cough*LAUREN*cough*), and especially Jose. I can’t believe Robert was in the Bottom 3 and Jose wasn’t; that’s just totally ridiculous. I hope the judges stop cutting him so much slack next week now that we’ve reached the point of weeding out some of the weaker dancers.
I thought there was some truth in what Mia said to Billy tonight — that he gets lauded so much, but the only way to grow is to make mistakes. You can tell he pushes himself hard, so I’m sure criticism is tough to take, but he CAN still improve in partnering and in connecting with the audience. So maybe this week will have been good for him.
But lol, I gotta go with you, @Emilie, on the disco… bleargh!
@tammi and Robin: I guess my main complaint with disco is that it doesn’t seem like a viable genre to me. I can see having one disco a season – like they do with Bollywood or Russian folk. 🙂 In fact, I’d like to see more Bollywood on the show instead of disco. I’d even like to see more Russian folk dancing in the place of disco. But I know a lot of people disagree with me – my mom, for one.
@Tammi I AM WITH YOU!
Every week i am stunned that Adechike is safe. His solo last night was the only thing of his i have liked all season, and even then it didn’t compare to the others.
Same deal with Jose, he’s a sweet kid, gorgeous smile, but his solos bore me. Granted, i don’t know a thing about breaking, but i know that i enjoyed performances from Hok, Gev, Dominic, even Legacy, and Jose is bringing nothing new.
i was crushed that Billy AND Robert were in the bottom 3 tonight, they are both so wonderful, but i think it will serve them well, give them a little kick in the pants and not let them get complacent.
I think most of us knew Melinda was going home tonight even before Billy and Robert were in the bottom and I certainly thought it was her time.
I don’t think Billy and Robert deserved to be in the bottom at all, but if voters listen to the judges or if they didn’t see the connection I can even vaguely understand Billy. Robert being in the bottom again baffles me though. I don’t think he’s the most technically brilliant of the guys, but he has personality and a uniqueness about him that I find more watchable than Adechike, and obviously my feelings about Jose (WHY?! was he not there? If the judges don’t stop giving him a free pass over better dancers next week I’ll throw something at my TV) are already known. The only thing I can think of is that while Robert fit Sonja’s style, it wasn’t one of her better pieces. Did he suffer because of less memorable choreography or is there something I’m missing?
We really want Adechike in the bottom before we want Jose there? Y’all are tough…
@Chelsea Rae – I felt the SAME WAY about that Sonya piece w/ Robert last night. I can see how it is physically demanding but overall it was lackluster.
I’m typing as I watch:
interesting move by the choreographer to put ashley and alex in the front as the couple in the group routine…
great song choice, but I think the song needs to be retired, watching Brandon’s audition and solo from S5 nobody in the group had the type of power and pop that Brandon did…
another roar for Alex (well deserved)…Ashley’s got a wee bit too much blush on tonight (but I’m glad to see her hair out of her face tonight)…
didn’t notice the throw/split thing from Adechike’s routine last night, that was really cool…
did Kent say I love you or I hate you to Cat after she faked him out again?
once again, I’d be totally okay with Neil daydreaming about me 🙂
loved the interplay between Robert and Billy, funny…wow, both of them in the B3, I wasn’t expecting that.
I think Mia’s kinda right on about Billy, I didn’t think about it that way…
Not surprised to see Melinda in the bottom, disappointed that it’s Robert and Billy rather than Kent and Jose.
holy cow, what was up with Nigel’s hair during S4?!! LOVE that they’re bringing back some of our favorite routines. Fingers crossed for Human Transformers next week!!
I had actually never seen Mark’s Bohemian Rhapsody solo, awesome. Has Mark gotten taller since his season? Weird question, I know. Gah, I love that routine.
Very cool choreography for Viva Elvis, loved that assisted front flip. I was trying to find Chris J (Comfort’s original partner) and Marquis from S4, according to various Twitters they’re in the show, did anyone spot them? I know Cat gave them a shoutout at the end but I was hoping to find them during the routine.
loved how much of the floor Billy covered. very interesting from Robert, I liked it. Melinda’s shoes matched her top, hehe.
I’m thinking there were so many far away shots of Ne-Yo to cover up the fact he was totally lipsynching. No way he sings like that while doing those dance moves…hey I spot Lil C!
Not surprised to see Melinda going home…lol looks like she partnered with Robert during the ballroom section in Vegas…that’s really sweet that they were all itching so much to get up there and hug Melinda, shows how close they have all become.
All in all, a fun, yet unsurprising results show. I think they’ve made some strong changes for next week. By my count, we’ll be seeing 8 routines, including 2 all-male duos, I’m gonna guess hip-hop and contemporary. Fun night!
ahaha okay so maybe im one of the only fans of disco, but thats okay 😛 i’ll always remember neils and saras disco as a personal fav, but i can see where other people are coming from too. maybe just one disco this season? 😉 and with neil in it?! i think a neil and ashley or lauren disco would be fabb!
couldnt agree more that there should be more bollywood too! i have yet to be disappointed by a bollywood number, but perhaps they seem so special because there are fewer of them as well. hard to say =) for those who went to the season 5 tour they had the greatest russion folk group dance, so much better than the jeanine and philip one on tv! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzcKA8Y7DWA)
sorry about billys “sass” all i meant was the change in attitude (sorry im not even sure if thats the right wording!) that has been noticed by a few this season. sass was def not the right word, sorry! i am always impressed by his technique, just for me personally ive felt an emotional disconnect with his dancing and interviews this season so far.
and although adechike is not a personal fav of mine, he is very talented and has made it so far on the show already 🙂
itll be interesting to see how the next few weeks go, i agree with the previous comment as some of the more “obvious” dancers have now left (although i did really like alexie)
@Margaret: What a great sum up!!!! I’m looking forward to next week’s performances after your predictions of 2 2-boy routines. 2 guys dancing contemporary. Should be interesting….
@tammi: I don’t think you were far off with “sass” for Billy. He needed to gain confidence, sure, but there’s been something cocky about him this season… like he felt so validated by the judges’ and audience’s reaction from last season that he was a star already. And maybe he is, but we’d like him to be both confident AND humble. SYTYCD audiences don’t tend to like guys who are great technicians who seem entitled or cocky. He was in danger of going down that road, I think…
hahah this picture was on Courtney Galiano’s Twitter, it’s kind of awesome, but Mark suddenly looks way older than Court. They danced the hell out of that routine tonight, btw.
@Margaret: Great find!!! I think the “older” thing is the cheekbones and the makeup. Anyway, she was like 19 on her season and wasn’t he like 22 or 23? Let’s see…Ha ha! I’m good! According to wikipedia, he was 24 during their season and she was 19. C’mon Margaret, give me brownie points! 🙂
Haha I’ll give you brownie points for that one, he does not look 26. I should have looked it up. Wow, Courtney’s my age? I loved them in their original partnerships (with Gev and Chelsie) but how sick would these 2 have been if they had danced together more? Though, that would have meant no Bleeding Love.
Mia talked in S5 about the aesthetic chemistry of Kayla and Kupono, especially when they did Sonya’s vampire number. Courtney and Mark have it in spades, they’re a gorgeous couple. Nobody’s answered my question though, has Mark grown? He looks taller than he did on S4, it may just be the height of his hair though. Hahah
@ Margaret: Ne-Yo wasn’t lip-syncing. I know, because after I saw Comfort and Jose’s
hip hop in week one, I bought the song. Just wanted to let you know. 🙂
@Lola, I guess I should have rephrased it, he looked as though he was using a backing track rather than singing straight along with the notes. The way that he was singing over himself on the track. It didn’t bother me though, it was fun to watch him dance.
@Margaret: It’s perfectly possible that Mark’s grown since he was on the show. I know some guys have growth spurts that late. OR, he could’ve always been tall and just had a bad habit of slouching (which seems less likely since he’s a dancer). But maybe being on the show, the tour and then dancing professionally made him stand up straighter, show off his height. OR, it could be the new stage. ;”)
@Emilie – for a guy who they’ve nicknamed baby b behind the stage I seriously doubt that arrogance and entitlement is his problem, the people backstage like to bitch about anyone who thinks they’re too big for their boots. They ripped into Victor last season.
Billy’s main problem is that he is too used to acting like a professional, Melinda had this issue as well. Melodrama isn’t appreciated and a aww shucks I’m just a farmboy attitude would likely get you crossed off on the spot. Btw some of Billy’s former employers have stated that Billy is extremely professional on the job.
@leon: I think you make a great point, one we’ve talked about before. Mostly with female dancers like Kayla. But I think it was brought up with Brandon and probably Danny Tidwell, as well.
The difference between a professional dancer doing jobs, a dancer as he is known personally behind the scenes and a dancer presented on a televised stage are HUGE. Someone could say the exact same comment in each of those three settings and be perceived differently.
I don’t know that Billy *IS* cocky because I’ve never met him and I don’t know him on a personal level. But he’s been coming off differently on t.v. this season than he did last. I can still enjoy Billy’s dancing and want him to succeed and feel that he may have let some of the attention go to his head a bit. Or maybe he hasn’t – I’m big enough to acknowledge I don’t know. Regardless, he’s holding himself in a certain way on t.v. that’s being perceived oddly by some of his audience – we’re not sure if it’s cockiness or sassiness or a new confidence or what. But it could endanger him if he and the audience don’t figure out.
That said, of course he’s brilliant. And I’m glad to hear that choreographers and everybody like working with him. 🙂
I know I’ll be skewered for this, but…
YAY FOR ADECHIKE!
😛
(y’all know I love ya…)
No skewering – but boo on my end. Next week…
Bring it, sister. 😉
(j/k, don’t…lol)
what was courtney’s audition song from season 4 that they played on the show tonight?
@Kristin:
I dunno. Here’s her audition, though, in full:
(sorry beth!)

thanks beth that was really helpful! the song is lost by anouk!
Oh, and @Tammi…apparently there are a lot of voting folks out there who feel as I do, which is kinda cool, since I’m way outnumbered on here. 😉 I’ve never felt that he was “not connecting”, I guess. re: billy
sass? SASS?! what sass are you talking about? where? billy was never ever insolent or disrespectful or showed any ‘tude to anyone
@Kristin: That was Anouk’s “Lost” – , which was also used this season in the Dallas/Nashville auditions, as well as back in 2008 for Courtney’s audition.
@beth: Thanks for posting the video of Courtney’s audition!
@tammi: I’m with you, sister. Except for bringing back disco. Yuck. I hate disco. It’s just the one choreographer, Doreanna Sanchez and she’s all played out.
