Top SYTYCD Music of 7/4-7/11

So, I’ve been doing this thing for a few weeks where I list the most popular music from the previous week. I kinda thought I was doing something brilliant and original. But, it turns out that John did it last year for Season 5. Man. Well, it’s still a good idea, so I’m gonna keep on keeping on.

And here is your Top SYTYCD Music of 7/4-7/11:
1. My girl Lissie’s “Everywhere I Go” – Everywhere I’m so excited because I ordered her new cd – even if I do have to wait till next month to get it.
2. Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” – Jar. I just wrote a post about how Christina Perri might single-handily save the music industry. 🙂
3. Howie Day’s “Collide” – Collide
4. Skunk Anansie’s “Squander” – Squander
5. Lil Jon ft. LMFAO’s “Outta Your Mind” – Outta

Can SYTYCD Save the Music Industry?

I just caught this great article about how sales from songs featured on t.v. shows are helping the music industry recover a bit from the free download craze.

As an example, the article specifically mentions Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts,” Jar which was featured on SYTYCD and has done very well for itself. It was featured in the Billy-Kathryn Stacey Tookey contemporary on the Top 9 performance show.

Here’s the Christina Perri section from the article:

A more recent example is Christina Perri’s song “Jar of Hearts,” which was plucked from relative obscurity by Fox’s hit show, So You Think You Can Dance in early July. Perri, a young singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, has no recording contract and few songs available to the public. Within hours of the song’s use in a dance number on the show, it was rushed onto iTunes and Amazon, where it rocketed into the top 20. “Christina Perri” also become Google’s top-ranked trending search term.

Perri learned about the song’s use on the show after a long, hard day waiting tables at a cafe in Hollywood. Now, she plans to quit her job to focus on music. (You can see a performance of the song and hear the background story from Christina Perri at Cambio.)

Click through on the Cambio performance/interview. It’s a total must-see for the low-down on how Christina found out her song was in the Top 10 on iTunes. And FYI, we made that happen, y’all. All us dance/music fans. 🙂

If you like “Jar of Hearts,” you might like “November” November. The singer, Lindsay Rae Spurlock, is a friend of mine and I’d love for her to be featured on the show, like it was featured on Real World – only this would be way better cause there’d be dancing, too. 🙂

And don’t forget our friends Black Gold. They’re psyched that “Shine” Shine is featured as the elimination song this season and would love to perform on the show. The lead singer told me he’d love to have all the eliminated dancers perform with the band. 🙂 He might have promised there’d be moonwalking and musical spoons, as well.

I think SYTYCD should just name us their official music site. 🙂
