SYTYCD S7 Top 7 Discussion
With Alex out of the competition and with Ashley out of the dancing tonight due to a broken rib (can she come back next week with that?!?!), I just don’t know about the rest of this season. My favorites are dropping like flies. They better bring back some amazing All-Stars to make me feel better. And I hear thatย Louis Van Amstel, Dmitry Chaplin AND Travis Wall are choreographing tonight, which makes me happy. The only way things on the choreography front could be better is if Wade’s doing the group number tomorrow…
Oh, here’s the place for all your thoughts going into tonight’s show, by the way.
this one’s a sytycd australia contemporary number to fix you by coldplay (the same one travis used for his contemp routine):

of course there couldn’t be a fair comparison since the backstories are so different. but it’s so good. reminds me of how sytycd america used to be like, honest and simple.
on another note, i watched travis’s contemporary and i don’t think it’s fair to compare him and tyce, i suppose, although the feel of the dance is so similar. it just made me feel that there was repitition, and i think that can’t be helped.
@Nancy In full agreement about the Tahitian number and LOL @ the Mark comment ๐
MARK MARK MARK!!! When the top 5 guys in S5 did the African number I went on and on about how I wanted to see Mark do Polynesian. THANK YOU!!! If you don’t follow Mark online, all week he was posting “OMQ! Oh my quads!” I see why!
SO bummed about Ashley. I don’t even want to think about it.
Neil is season 3 and Kent season 7, so that would explain the shirts – good catch!
And re: a Fall season, I don’t have this officially, but the word was that it was largely done to pimp Glee, so I don’t see it happening again, especially since ratings dropped. But the Glee thing worked!
@ Margot: Yes, Neil was season 3 and Kent was season 7, but it could also stand for the fact that Neil came in third place and Kent’s number meant top 7 ๐
@NC, I didn’t even pick up on the “Travis clothes” well done! I agree that it’s very difficult to compare this piece and Tyce’s piece. I think the thing about Travis’s that made it stand out for me was the music. I like Coldplay okay, but Travis used the music really well. The rise and fall of the music helped bring the viewer emotionally into the routine. I loved the parts where they were dancing together, they were poignant and powerful, especially because Travis’s mom is a dance teacher. It really showed how much Allison has grown as a dancer since season 2.
Broadway routine – did anyone else think it was really strange to have a dance where the dancers were forbidden to connect with each other? It just felt so odd. In fact, Courtney (who I usually love to watch) totally faded into the background for me because her energy was entirely inward-focused. It was like Jose was dancing with a prop. I thought it was kind of creepy, actually.
