CRAP!!!!!!!! I knew it! I knew this was going to happen!!!! Insert expletive here. That is all I’m going to say about it for now because I’m extremely disappointed again (plus I don’t want to spoil it for the West Coasters).
Ashley was awesome. so sad to see her go. at least she’ll be on tour! which should be interesting. nigel made it seem like it wouldn’t be everyone from season 6 top 10 and maybe the same for season 7. did anyone else pick up that too??
BUT neil + allison dancing…….o.m.g. i love them. it’s like season 2 and season 3 had a love child and it was them dancing together. does that even make any sense? im not sure. oh well. they were awesome.
But thanks to Nigel being not sly at all we will see her on the tour which makes me happy. Season 7, season 6, and all stars on tour…so I can wait till that actually tell us who will be on tour. I went through all four of my programs for each tour today.
Loved the opening number and a great entrance by Cat. Comfort and Twitch amazing as always. Alvin Ailey dancers were great too. Allison and Neil loved just wish the danced more.
Could anyone spot Ashley or Lauren in that group hug.
@Kayla, I agree with you on pretty much everything!
Season 6- there are some dancers that aren’t… available to tour, so to say. At least from what people have said in the comments- Jakob being overseas and such. And the top 10 of season 7 is… everyone, except Alex, who is recovering anyways.
I’m getting pretty sick of Jose and how easy the judges are on him. I remember from last night how Adam, after the b-boy routine, was like “yea, those comments earlier must’ve hurt.” Seriously? What about Adechike? What about when everyone ELSE gets criticism, hmm?
(And I definitely called the bottom 2 (3) this week… just sayin :P)
The best change in Season 7 – having SYTYCD dancers dance with the musical guest. I have always felt the musical guest was kind of weird to have on a dancing show, and an annoying waste of time. But now the musical guests are interesting to watch! I heartily approve, and hope they keep this up!!
I agree, Stephanie! Some of the musical guest had talented dancers, but many did not. I thought it must feel weird to have such sub-par dancers come onto a dance show. I love the All-Stars!
@ Emily – good call on the bottom 3. I’m glad to see Jose finally there. Too bad for Ashley, I think this might have been Jose’s week to go home otherwise. At this point, as long as he goes next, I’m fine with any of the other 5 winning.
@ Kayla – I’m so with you on Neil and Allison. Absolutely gorgeous together.
It was nice to see Twitch and Comfort’s number again and I am enjoying the repeating of all-star performances.
I’m really disappointed about Ashley though, who I thought deserved to be in the final four. I hope she rests a ton and feels better for the tour! I don’t think, unfortunately, that the judges would have done it anyway, but for me it was a real missed opportunity to get rid of Jose. I’ll be hoping that he lands in the bottom again next week and that people continue to vote for Robert even when he isn’t dancing a Travis Wall piece.
It was great to have Christina Perri performing. I made a note after the routine aired to look up the song and completely forgot about it so this was a wonderful reminder and I will be downloading it soon!
Kevin- I’m the same. I have this awful, dreadful feeling that the judges would chose to send home Adechike in a heartbeat over Jose, or even, with the advice they gave Billy tonight, Billy over Jose. It’s a really really scary thought.
[…] Twitch and Comfort in the “rewind” “Forever” dance from Season 4. Thanks to our reader Kayla for the term. It was even better this time and really solidified for me how much Comfort’s […]
I haven’t watched the results show yet.. Did the judges say anything about bringing Ashley back next season? Don’t get me wrong, I lovvveeee Alex, but doesn’t bringing him back and not Ashley seem too unfair? It’s like taking their favoritism to a whole new level. Alex was AMAZING, but bending the rules for him just sinks the integrity of the entire show.
The whole homophobic subtext to a lot of the judges’ comments is really wearing me down as a viewer. Like Elvis-“I’m-a-real-man”-Stojko, the SYTYCD judges have pretty firm ideas about what masculinity and femininity are — and Skeletor (a.k.a. Nigel Lythgoe, whom you have written about before) is allowed to drool over every move that underaged female dancers make. Blech!
Meanwhile, while Kent and some of the other males likewise get to make sexual comments about their female counterparts, dancers like Alex Wong (who appears briefly on a gay-themed episode of the Tyra Banks show*) don’t say anything about who amongst their peers they think are hot.
@Scott Appel: You make some great points. And while I’m not letting anybody off the hook here, I think what you’re pointing out is prevalent in our culture as a whole, not just on SYTYCD. What we see on SYTYCD is symptomatic of the entire problem, in my opinion. Thanks for the link, check out this Huffington post piece I really liked that calls SYTYCD one of the most culturally radical shows on t.v.
Here’s a sample quote from the beginning:
“Where else on TV do you regularly see an attractive, shirtless, African-American man engaged in a passionately sexual dance with a lithe, beautiful blonde wearing almost no clothes, without controversy or comment? Or an Hispanic B-Boy with jerry curls performing a hip hop dance with a young Asian woman? Where else on network TV do you see such overt eroticism, rather than the fake, snarky kind that passes for sexual innuendo on many shows. On what other reality contest show do you see an obviously gay judge calling an obviously gay contestant “honey?” Where else but on “So You Think You Can Dance”, now in its 7th season on, of all places, Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Network?”
I’ve got to agree with Scott Appel, though. I feel like the desperate hetersexuality of the show is getting more and more pronounced. In past seasons, I think that Adam Shankman was pretty open with his homosexuality, but this season, he’s chiming in with Nigel as they chatter about the physical characteristics of the female (and JUST the female) dancers. I felt really odd when, after the Tahitian dance, Nigel turned to Adam to ask what he thought about Lauren’s hips.
It is as if they are trying to prove that dancers (or artists in general) don’t have to be gay…although, if they just ignored the whole thing (like they used to) it wouldn’t be an issue. Maybe some of the big mucky-mucks at Fox are sticking their nose in it – they didn’t care when it was a sleepy summer hit, but now that it’s a huge show, they want to make SURE the kids know that boy-girl relationships are THE way to go.
Or maybe Nigel’s just getting gross in his old age and Adam is just too kind to let him do it alone.
I’m concerned that they overly sexualizing the female dancers. Why do those old men go on and on about Lauren’s hips? Isn’t she just 18 or 19? Why must everything be about sex? Kids are watching pls, and don’t set up your female dancers for sexual molestation.

I’m with you, Cynthia. I knew it was gonna happen, but was still secretly hopeful that I was wrong…
I love Ade’Chike!!!! He’s an EXTRAORDINARY dancer!
Awwww I miss Ashley already. Sad. So sad 2 c her leave. Get your rest Ash, u WILL come back bigger & better!!!
these injuries SUCK!!!

@alla
they’re not bringing Ashley back for next season b/c she’s going to be able to participate in the tour
