SYTYCD Season 7 Top 4 Results Discussion
Well, as you might’ve seen in my Thoughts/Power Rankings post last night, I’m guessing for the crazy twist tonight rather than what I think *should* happen or what I want to happen. It’s been that kinda season. Crazy twists are all we can expect.
This is the place to let me (and everybody) know what YOUR thoughts are. π
yea lauren!! so deserves it…..2 more to go…
Desmond Richardson = LOVE.
omg.
Oh, and I’m feeling that my boy is prob heading home tonight. I am sad. At least Desmond helsp to curb some of the pain. π
@Beth—-sad for your boy, but his solo was amazing.
YAY!! YAY!! YAY!! 3 Yays for the final 3.
I am sad and disappointed. Very disappointed.
π
Wish I would be seeing Chike dance next week and not Robert. It just won’t be the same without him.
I shall go eat chocolate in bed and feel sorry for myself. lol
Can’t wait for finale next week!!
YAY super excited about the finale! I’m gonna miss Adechike though..he’s so sweet.
BTW I forgot to post this yesterday, did anyone else notice Adrian Lee in Robert’s package where he was talking about his roommates? A girl held his picture up and he was in a few scenes! I feel like all dancers know each other!
@beth: I am sorry about Adechike, mostly for you and for his fans. And for him. He is sweet. But you know… started thinking about this last night. He’s in the same vein as Desmond and Dwight and while I can recognize the strength and the skill and creativity in their work, it’s never my favorite. So, maybe that has something to do with my slow and tepid connection with Adechike’s dancing. Enjoy your chocolate, sweetie. You’ll get to see him on tour!!
@Linsey: The world of dance IS pretty small, relatively speaking. π Jeanine (S5 winner) and Jakob Carr (S6 Top 4) are best friends. There are a bunch of connections. We even did a post about it, but I can’t remember what we called it or how long ago it was.
@Linsey the dance world is pretty small. Kathryn took at the same dance studio as I did. Also I met Natalie from season two when we went to different dance conventions.
Anyone else want to know who will be filling in for Alex in that hip hop number. lol I want to know now and got a hunch it will be another ballet dancer.
Its sad to see anyone go at this stage in the game. Adechike is a great dancer but I saw what the judges saw last night…he still needs to fully let go. Though I think he makes a better hip hop dancer than a contemporary dancer. So he didnt win the money but he will work.
I so happy for Robert. Its going to be a close race only 2% separated the top two. Looking forward to next week and Step Up 3D this weekend.
@Amanda: I heard a rumor that Danny Tidwell may fill in for Alex.
SO HAPPY!!!! God, I screamed so much when they said Robert was safe! I’m sorry for AdΓ©chikΓ©, because I really like him ion interviews, and in his solos, but when he dances with a partner, I just can’t connect…
I was at work and had pretty much resigned myself to seeing either Lauren or Robert go home so I’m thrilled that they’re both safe. I know Adechike has a lot of fans and he is a talented dancer but I much prefer the other two and I’ll be watching the finale with much more excitement next week than I expected to have.
@Emilie but Nigel said dance LEGEND I would call Danny that.
woulldnt*
that was a great results show. I didn’t care much for Janelle, just not my style of music but other people seemed to like it. LOVED the opening all-stars number, I wish the camera could have gotten in a little closer so we could see everyone’s faces, but really cool number. Ade, Twitch, Dom, Kathryn, Lauren and Courtney were great during the Flo Rida number with the little camera time they actually got! I feel like I saw flashes of them. Kathryn looks gorgeous with her straight hair.
It was fun to see the recaps of last night, I picked up on little things I had missed. Overall, they all did a fabulous job, and I thought the solos tonight were really good too. Robert’s especially seemed different than some of the ones he’s done before. You could see the intensity in his eyes as he started, that’s for sure.
Ecstatic that Robert made the finals, but sad to see AdeChike go home. Watching his farewell package, he had some really beautiful moments on the show. And, he was clearly a hit with the fans since he was never in the bottom 3. I have no doubt that we will be seeing great things from him.
Next week will be amazing. I really want to know who this dance “legend” is who will be replacing Alex in the hip hop number. I wonder what other numbers we’ll be seeing?!
I forgot to add that I thought Desmond Richardson was fierce tonight. I know he doesn’t appeal to everyone, but I loved it. He was sinewy and sleek but powerful at the same time. Plus, wearing an outfit like that, you know he’s a born performer.
I was thinking about why I wasn’t loving the routine last night, I really think it was the music. With “Imagine” and “At This Moment”, there were points in the song where the dancers could hold these incredible pictures, but the music seemed almost too fast last night, thus Nigel’s comment about Adechike looking like he lost a bit of energy. I thought he did a great job with what he was given, I just would have loved to have seen the pictures as well as the movements.
@Margaret—agreed. Desmond was perfection. I love his fierce style–the long lines, the strength, the staccato movements. I don’t usually see him dancing more of a fast contemporary, which is a great change from his pas de deux. (Though I do love his pas de deux.)
I hope that Chike can get to work with him more because I think he’s perfect for Desmond’s choreography. Maybe he can join Complexions? Oh, I hope so. That would make it so worth it.
Robert seemed genuinely happy and I’m happy for him. I’m sure it’s a big moment for him! But I can’t help but be bummed…I just don’t really enjoy Robert’s dancing that much (compared to Adechike), which will put a damper on my enjoyment of next week’s finale. I’m sure it will be great, though.
Lauren did the best solo (as she always does) but i will probably be voting for Kent next week.
Singing performer Janelle was awful. I felt like I was watching a really bad high school talent show performance. Bad singing and bad attempt at ripping off James Brown.
Poor Adechike looked pretty shocked to be cut π
Loved the excitement when the top 4 got to go to the Step Up premiere.
I fast-forwarded the first singer. π
Margaret – thanks for confirming that was Kathryn during Flo Roda number. I recognized all the others, but never got a close enough shot of Kathryn’s face ot be sure that was her. Wow.
All the contestant solo’s were quite good last night. Ieven enjoyed them more than Desmond’s.
I do wish we’d go back to the heady days of 2 weeks ago when there was only one musical number and thye showed more dancing on the results show. I know thye are out of All-Star couples that could perform dances from their season, but I’m sure thye could come up with somethign to do with all the dance talent that isn’t being used with fewer and fewer contestants.
I really loved the first musical guest. The tightrope song is one of my favorites and I love her androgynous style. She’s very very cool. And I loved the James Brown dance moves…
I thought Lauren completely killed the Flo-Rida routine. I thought Kathryn and Ade were both a little out of their comfort zones with the choreography. π Saw a bit of contemporary flava coming through them in the freestyle parts…haha. But who would blame them? Kathryn’s hair really is pretty when it’s straight, though…
So freaking excited for the finale!!!!!!!!!! My Three fav dancers !!!!!!!!!
***PREDICTION***
I have a feeling that the ‘dance legend’ performing with Twitch will be Edward Villella (Founding Artistic Director of Miami City Ballet). Who better to replace Alex than his mentor, I know they both have reciprocating praise for each other and Edward hated to part with Alex. The best way to pay a homage would be Edward as Alex’s understudy. That would be the greatest SYTYCD irony ever!!!
Ok, I really don’t want them to recreate Alex’s hip hop. I feel like it’s a slap in the face to Alex- that was his dance! Does anyone else feel this way?
I feel both ways, Meg. On one hand, it was “his” dance. But on the other hand, it was all of our dance, as it was an integral part of this season.
@Kevin I was thinking that to that would so cool. I look at recreating the dance more as a tribute to Alex especially if Edward is the one dancing.
@Amanda and @Kevin, I was about to say the same thing! What a cool moment that would be for the show. Based on what Alex said about Edward while he was on the show, we know how much dancing for him meant to Alex. I think it would be wonderful.
the judges were commenting on Kent’s disco a lot, with Adam saying he needed more of that “Rico SuavΓ©” mentality, and I was having a hard time coming up with an example where that worked. Well, I found one, SYTYCD Canada Season 1 winner Nico and 4th place finisher Natalli, done by Melissa Williams. Granted, Nico is much bigger than Kent, but this routine is not particularly lift-heavy, and Nico totally got the image that Adam was talking about.
@Margaret – Yes Nico and Natalli had a pretty great piece for disco. I don’t mind disco as much on the Canadian version and I think it’s because the choreography involves more actual dancing and isn’t all lifts. Vincent and Arassay had a great disco number as well.
