SYTYCD Canada Top 10 Revealed
The opening number featured the Top 12 dancers doing a routine choreographed by Jean-Marc and his wife . The ides was mobster women controling the men. I was pretty sexy and fun.
Top 12 Routine
“Dirty Dancer” – Enrique Inglesias
Results:
Melissa & Adam – safe
Jordan & Francois – safe
Lindsay & Christian – in danger
Geisha & Joey – in danger
Denitsa & Matt – safe
Yulia & Shane – in danger
These results were not too surprising, but I really thought Geisha and Joey did well last night.
Solo’s
Lindsay
Jason Derulo – “Whatchya Say”
Amazing to see her dance her solo, stunning!
Geisha
Robyn – “Indestructible”
A regular in the solo’s. She did well but not mind-blowing.
Yulia
Cherry Poppin’ Daddies – “Jump Jive & Wail”
Same as usual, great technique in her own style… not very good in anything else, always in the bottom and always saved by judges – Lame!
Christian
AfroJack – “Take Over Control”
Great to see in the solo’s he is absolutely amazing to watch!
Joey
Michael Bublé – “Feelin’ Good”
Fabulous dancer, amazing solo, I just adore him!
Shane
(Unknown which artist did this version) – “Stand By Me” [Probably the Rockapella version – Emilie’s note]
Really brought it in his solo, which was a surprise, I thought he would go based on the other two in the bottom.
I was shocked to see Geisha and Joey sent home. I knew Geisha or Yulia would leave, based on the number of times they have been in the bottom, but Joey? I am stunned! He is amazing!
So now we have our Top 10… Jordan is still a favourite but she is being outshined by Melissa as of late. Joey was my favourite male dancer and now that he is gone… I am sad!
bad decision for the guys on the part of the judges – christian should have been sent home instead of joey.
yesterday they raved about how he should never be in the bottom again, he’s one of the strongest male dancers, etc. etc. and tonight he’s sent home.
of course, i would have rather that yuliya be sent home, but i feel like geisha was one of the weaker female dancers anyway.
Well, my prediction for the Bottom 3 proved pretty accurate, and I was right to paint a bullseye on Geisha as well.
But honestly, after the reveal of the bottom couples all I was sure of was that “no way the judges are sending Lindsey or Shane home.”
After the solos I still felt it could go either way between Geisha and Yulia, and I was pretty sure Christian was a goner. I’m a fan of Ballroom, but somehow I’ve never been a fan of Christian. Maybe it’s those spooky eyes, I dunno. 😛
But it seems the judges really care about how many times a dancer has been in the bottom, at least when the discrepancy is as big as 1 vs 3, so that saved Christian’s bacon. I also agree with what Tre said about Joey not doing well outside his genre, that’s a legitimate factor in cutting him.
I think once voting is purely in the voters’ hands, Yulia will be the first girl to leave. Not sure about the guys.
@ maddy: the judges always rave uncontrollably on performance nights. They never seem able to do the math.
@ Leah Miller: will you please STOP with those rote, mechanical and utterly predictable fake-outs? I mean come on, you do it every single time, it’s not like it surprises anybody now. Also, your acting stinks.
Late, here. I went on vacation and am catching up now.
Joey??? He’s been in two of the most memorable dances (with Jordan) of the season. The tour will be hurt without him.
Even so, this was his third time in the bottom.
I wonder if the Canadian judges are focused on avoiding having a replay of the weakness in the US show: the top 10 being dominated by contemporary.
Even so, Christian doesn’t have near enough the versatility (especially when compared to the other ballroom guy, the amazing Francois). As when Denitsa was saved over Shelaina, I wonder how much JM throws his weight around to put ballroom dancers in the top 10.
Joey was really hurt a ton by the rotating partners. If he would have kept Jordan, they never would have hit the bottom.
Joey can’t lean on the popularity of Jordan. Joey had a really bad dance and then a so so African Jazz and it caught up with him.
I came back to comment here because I thought that after they broke Joey and Jordan up he never again had a good dance… At best they were mediocre… I was glad things turned out in that round the way they did… And I disagree with those who saw Franswag as being better than Christian. There has never been a better ballroom male dancer in the competition… Particularly his lifts are unparalleled.
