SYTYCD Canada Cancelled
After one of the most fantastic seasons yet, the Canadian version of SYTYCD has been cancelled by CTV.
Hours after crowning Jordan Clark the Season 4 winner, the announcement was made official, this would be the last season of SYTYCD Canada.
“I can confirm that we are not ordering a fifth season of the series,” Scott Henderson, vice-president of communications for Bell Media told CityNews.ca.
“After four seasons and 92 episodes, CTV has decided to pursue other program strategies. This decision was made after careful consideration, including viewership and economic factors. We remain extremely proud of the legacy of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, including raising the profile of dance in this country,”
Fans are outraged, and they are not alone. Judges, choreographers and dancers alike are all in shocked and disappointed at this news.
Jean-Marc Genereux tweeted:
Dear Fans @SYTYCDCanada.no regrets! you were the best fans in the WORLD..SHOW is gone! But NOT your passion for DANCE,it’s a CTV decision!
You will hear all kinds of reasons!!! But you know what!!! Canada loved his DANCE SHOW and I’m sure the fans will react!!!
@TreArmstrong tweeted:
“Wow…honestly can’t believe #SYTYCDCanada has been cancelled,” Armstrong said Tuesday. “So disappointing for Canada & our amazing talent. Best season EVER! Love You.”
“Hope that #SYTYCDCanada comes back to live once more…thank you for 4 great seasons,” Armstrong wrote Tuesday. “The network, production, crew & talent, love u all.”
Luther Brown tweeted:
Its sad that the show has ended but God is good and we were all blessed to be apart of Canada’s best show! We went out with a bang!!!
Stacey Tookey tweeted:
I’m so sad to hear about the cancellation of SYTYCDC but I am so proud to know a group of people with that much talent & heart!! Love u all!
For me this is sad news. Granted I still watch SYTYCD USA, but there was something special about our Canadian SYTYCD and I am sad to see that go.
A part of me hopes that it will somehow survive, but only time will tell. There are a number of petitions and complaints going on to try and save the show. In the past, I know when a company cancels something, it is usually a done deal, but you never know!
How do you feel about this news?

This is so ridiculous. I know the show can’t be cheap to make , but the quality of dance on the show was incredible! I feel sorry for all the young dancers, waiting to try out for this show, and will not get their chance now!
Well, I see little reason to continue my watching of ctv knowing they would disappoint a nation of young talent and a host of loyal fans of all ages, ethnicity, gender, and size. If a show like this doesn’t showcase what Canada is all about, what does? It highlights our diversity, our talent, our culture, and entertains us all… But we are cancelling the show? There is no way to spin this that makes any sense to me. So long ctv, you just lost a viewer permanently.
It’s so sad! 🙁
Even though it never was my favourite version, because of the host/judges, I still enjoyed it.
How do I feel? Very, very, VERY bummed out. It’s devastating news for me. Like you, I also watch the US show, but I always like the Canadian show better — less hype and amazing dancers.
I wonder if some other network might pick it up. Even cable. This was appointment TV for me! And there’s hardly anything that is.
VERY DISAPPOINTED & DON’T UNDERSTAND
Viewership / % votes night of finale was higher in Canada than US based on total population
US 11,000,000 / pop 360,000,000 = 3.1%
Canada 1,600,000 / population 37,000,000 = 4.3 %
ECONOMIC FACTOR : I suppose that buying rights of all CSI- CRIMINAL MINDS- LAW & ORDER programming costs a fortune. So CTV decides to go for MURDER- PSYCHOS – SERIAL KILLERS- RAPE ETC…… rather than allowing us to see live clean-cut passionate young people dedicated to a beautiful art form.
WAY TO GO CTV………………
From now on, I’ll make every effort to lower their viewership stats. even more.
ARE THEY INSANE???????????????
no! i was hoping to try out eventually…. 🙁
first of all, they should have KICKED LEAH MILLER OFF because she was HORRIBLE and probably lowered their viewers.
please, somebody, pick it up!!!!
the exact same thing happened to canadian idol… although that wasn’t as such a loss.
the CBC has a poll, hopefully the network that tries to promote Canadian talent will pick this up or some form of it. Nico Archambault, the season one winner just launched a new show Ils dansent, about the stigma and the extreme hard work young guys have to endure if they love to dance, on the CBC’s sister french language network – Radio Canada, last night to rave reviews….so if Radio Canada can do it, a beautiful slick production, then CBC can too. Vote in the poll and voice your opinion.

I feel especially sad for Moses. I really looked forward to seeing him again next year!
I am sad that it has been cancelled, for the sake of young Canadian dancers. But I agree with #maddy that if it is brought back Leah Miller should not be part of it. Everyone I know who used to watch the show either stopped watching because they couldn’t stand her shrill stage voice and her inane comments, or continued to watch and fast forwarded through her bits. She has always been a major obstacle to my enjoyment of the show.
[…] Dance season 9. Pretty awesome that it’s been around so long and that is was renewed after SYTYCD Canada was cancelled. While I don’t think the ratings have been as strong as they’d like, the show does have […]
