Dance is one of my biggest passions. I grew up dancing at Augusta West Dance Studio (the same studio that Kathryn McCormick). I have a BFA in theatre/dance from Valdosta State University. Tap is my favorite style of dance.

Music Playlists

Many people have asked about music that is used during the audition episodes, unfortunately I’m unable to catch everything since my main focus is the dancers. Thankfully Fox’s website has the playlist of every episode, but the only downfall it doesn’t say which dance used what piece of music. So check out http://www.fox.com/dance/news for all the playlists and they also link to where you can purchase the song on I-Tunes. Only one that I have noticed that isn’t listed for the Atlanta auditions is what Mariah dance to. She dance to “I’m a Woman” by Maimouna Youssef. Hope this helps all the music questions.

Atlanta Auditions: Thoughts

Filling two hours with just one city, makes for a long show with plenty of talent. Joining Nigel and Mary in Atlanta is Lil Buck and Jenna Dewan-Tatum.

Mariah and Kelly: Both of these ladies are great jazz dancers with plenty of facial expressions. The judges only called Kelly out on it as far as we know. However for me it was Mariah’s expressions that bothered me.

Erik “Silky”: I sorta remember him and the tapping. I did find it funny that Nigel had to stop him at the beginning of his solo to ask him a question about it.

Mr. Strange: A founding member of the Dragon House crew and a great animator. Maybe the third crew member to make it to the top 20.

Conrad: Proved that he can dance in a masculine way.

“Dynamic”: Fikshun’s best friend. Hated that he got cut. Hopefully he will come back next year and be able to handle the choreography.

Brandon aka Sideshow: Anyone else notice BluPrint’s reactions to his former crew member (he tweet the had to let him go). It was like he was saying dude shut up. I really could go on about this guy but I’d rather give props to BluPrint and the rest of Dragon House for apologizing to Nigel and the judges for Sideshows attitude.

Day 2 had two montages for both guys and girls. Also where I just stopped taking notes…opps. Day 2 only had a few standouts for me.

Ricky and Marissa: both of them could easily be in the top 20. I agreed with what the judges said about Marissa.

Angelina and Christina: Both have brothers that were a part of their inspiration in dance.

Brandon “Crazy Legs”: he showed us what cranking is and had a great personality for the show but he wasn’t able to do the choreography.

Jerrod and his son Kody: I waited the entire episode to see this kid dance. I felt bad that they woke him up just to dance. He really didn’t know what was going on but the music came on and he killed it. Then music cuts off and he is ready to go back to his nap…too cute.  Dad was a good dancer as well

Next week we have the LA callbacks with 157 dancers and the top 20 will be revealed. Well that’s going to be a jammed packed episode.

LA and Philadelphia Auditions: Thoughts

Last night starts with day two of the Los Angeles auditions. Christina Applegate is back on the judging panel. Again LA didn’t dissapoint, another great day of auditions.

There were some great Ballroom dancers.

Surge and Alla: I liked the chemistry between to and enjoyed watching them dance. Now as for the status of their relationship…not so sure about.

Armen and Marlene: I loved these two as well. Marlene really caught my eye of the pair and I think she could go far on the show.

There were a few other great couples that were shown in the montage.

Casey: Finally we get to see another great contemporary guy.

J4: Seriously this kid is too cute…his reaction to meeting Twitch was great.

Jourdan: Love the mixture of pointe and contemporary.

Johnny Waacks: He was actually better than I thought he would be and glad he was able to male it through the choreography round. The only thing I suggest is this style gets a new name…the judges were having a little too much fun with it.

Philadelphia is the next stop in the auditions. Join the judges this time is ballerina Misty Copeland (day 1) and Broadway star and tony winner Billy Porter (day 2).

Bridget: Beautiful dancer and I know her dad would’ve been proud.

Another montage of male dancers.

Amir: She isn’t the typical ballerina. I did enjoy her style.

Landon: Glad Jenna kept her promise to be his partner. He kept up with her and didn’t let her steal the focus. He gets a ticket to the next round. Also we find out Jenna will be an all star this season.

Shafeek: Glad he decided to come back and he has a better attitude. Agreed with the judges he shouldn’t hold back in his solo.

Stanley: Such a strong dancer. He will go far in this competition.

James: aka Banks. I did enjoy the slow krumping. Hope he comes back next year.

The final stop of the first round of auditions is in Atlanta.

Chicago and Los Angeles Auditions: Thoughts

Great night of auditions. I’ll add my thoughts tomorrow but the impromptu duet that Fikshun had with Marie Poppins was my absolute favorite moment of the night. So what did you think.

The show picks back up in Chicago for day 2 of the auditions, but first we get to see those that participated in the polar plunge. Mary Murphy was up for that challenge and so was Jimmy Fallon. Fabrice Calmes of the Joffrey Ballet, joins Mary and Nigel for day 2.

Paul “The Puppet”: I liked this guy a very unique new style. It was like a very fluid version of popping and animation. Nigel was out voted about going the choreography round, so Paul was sent to the next round.

Emily James: I really hope that the  third time is the charm for her. How cute were her cousins and the youngest didn’t want a ticket.

Is it me or am I seeing more of the male dancers in the montages.

Franchesce: This girl has unique written all over her. She uses the fact that she has alopecia to her advantage. I agree with the judges that Sonya and Mia would love her.

Jenna: Her excitement over meeting Fabrice was just too cute and I now I think he will take more notice of her after that audition. I would love to see her on pointe too.

James: The bone breaking stuff is just so hard too watch.

Day 1 LA with Christina Applegate and plenty of Alumni in the audience. So many great dancers on day one I can’t wait for day two.

Jessica: One of my favorites of the night. I love that the judges don’t even talk and just hand her a ticket. I think there is a really good chance we will see her in the top 20. Loved her long hair too…little jealous.

Valerie: I love that tap seems to be becoming more popular on the show. She did have to go through choreography round and she made it to the next round.

JaJa: We have Philip Chbeeb  to thank for this girl. I remember her from ABDC and she was only 15 when I am me competed. Love seeing strong female dancers in the hip hop genre.

Kyle: He impressed me with his dancing, for only dancing in his living room and not in front of an audience. Plus he was able to hold his own in the battle with Fikshun, Cyrus, and Legacy.

Justine, Hailee: both great dancers and would love to see more of them

Maurcio and Daisy: great Pas de Duex

Sebastian: Hope he makes it to the green mile this time and maybe even to top 20.

Dani: Granted not the first time we heard a story like hers but I still love how dance that can help them overcome their problems. I was a little confused that they made her do the choreography round.

Marie Poppins: Love the stage name and her. I think she had the best moment of the night. She dances from the heart and got not only the judges attention but Fikshun’s as well. I don’t know what made him get up and dance with her but I’m glad he did. I really hope she can do the other styles cause I would love to she her in the top 20.

The girls are strong this Season.
