Top 10: Power Rankings

So since they revealed which dancer is paired with each All Star, I figur ed I would do the power rankings a little different this week. I’m choosing to rank the guys and the girls separately and predict how I think they will do next week.

Guys

Casey: After a great performance this week, he gets to be paired with Kathryn. I’ve got a feeling this will be a good partnership and most likely a good dance.

Ricky: He is the best techincal dancer on the show and hard not put him at the top of the list. I think Lauren Froderman is a good match for him and I’m curious what style they will be dancing.

Zack: He should be ok being paired with Amy.

Rudy: It will be interesting to see him do ballroom. I think he will do an ok job but Jenna could over shadow him after all she is a judges favorite.

Emilio: The height difference will be interesting. I honestly have no clue how they may do. It could be really good or bad. I  also think it depends on what style they pick.

Girls

Tanisha & Jacque: They are kind of tied for me. The are both paired with an All Star that is also in their strongest style of dance. I’m excited to see Ryan dance again. Also I’m expecting a great pas de duex from Chehon and Jacque.

Valerie: I don’t think she will have a problem keeping up with Ade.

Bridget: Why do I get the feeling she could be dancing disco, Brandon is a great partner for it. Disco is tough to pull off so it’s another wait and see how it goes.

Jessica: While I think she will be safe next week she is pair with Twitch. She has a lot of work to do to keep up with the star that is Twitch.

What are your thoughts on the pairings?

Another great show with a double elimination. Christina Applegate is back on the judges panel this week. She is my favorite guest judge, not only can she critique the dancers, she is also funny. The “I saw a lift, oh wait wrong show” line after the quickstep was fantastic. If you watch Dancing With the Stars, you know that she was kinda mocking Carrie Ann. Also her line about the guys costumes for the group number was quite funny too.

Anyways back to the show. I actually pretty much agreed with the bottom 6 with the exception of Carly. Thankfully they were able to do solos tonight. Teddy was my favorite solo of the night. Overall after all of the performances, I knew who the judges would most likely save and I was right.

At the end of the show we found out the All Star pairings. I’m just going to list the All Stars just in case of spoilers. Jenna, Chehon, Jasmine, Kathryn, Twitch, Lauren Froderman, Ade, Brandon, Amy, and Ryan.

I might do a little something different for power rankings since they annouced the All Star partners. So what are your thoughts?

Top 16 to Top 14: Thoughts and Power Rankings

What a show, the group dances were all absolutely amazing. Plus Misty Copeland finishes up her last week as a guest judge.

****SPOILER ALERT****  West coast stop reading now.

I was surprised to see Zack and Tanisha in the bottom 6…they should not have been there. If you are voting continue to vote for your favorites every week and  don’t assume they are safe.

Top 3

Bridget and Emilio: I loved everything about this dance. I think they both proved themselves this week and hopefully will be safe next week. Emilio was far out of his element and he did a great job and pointed his feet.

Tanisha and Rudy: Just a very cool and sexy hip hop from Dave Scott. That outfit was hot and yes my attention went straight to Tanisha.

Carley and Surge: I’m really loving Surge as a partner and he is growing. Carly was fantastic from the turns to the back bend.

Middle 2

Valerie and Ricky: Love the energy that Bollywood brings to the stage. Both of them kept up with the pace but I do agree Valerie could have been a little sharper in the movements.

Jacque and Zack: Love this dance but something just did sit right. Zack was fantastic but I wish Jacque would let go of the “pretty” dancing.

Bottom 3

Brooklyn and Casey: I love the Choreography but those costumes were horrible. I would have rather seen the really baggy pants look. They both did do a good job at dancing it.

Emily and Teddy: All things considered I think Emily played it safe and then the slip at the beginning, she recovered well but it may have thrown her off as well. I love Teddy as a performer and glad he pulled of those lifts.

Jessica and Marcquet: Beautiful dance but that really all I can say about it.

I honestly thought after those group dances I thought there might be a possibility that they’d save them all and then do a double elimination next week. Well I was half right, there is a double elimination next week and we say goodbye to Marcquet and Brooklyn. So who’s in trouble…Jessica, Emily, Valerie(maybe), Casey, Surge, and Teddy. What are your thoughts?

Top 16: Power Rankings

This week’s show was thankfully better than last week’s. Plenty of great dances and some dancers proving why they deserve to stay on the show. Unfortunately we said goodbye to Jourdan and Stanley.

Top 6: Hard to choose where each of these rank but that’s what happens when it’s a good show.

Rudy and Tanisha: They were the closers of the show and quite possible had the best routine of the night. They even seem to get the short shoe steps right. My favorite broadway dance in a while. I’ll admit I was a little worried with the canes as props because they can easily be dropped.

Teddy and Emily: These two used the fact that they were in the bottom six to push to dance basically for their lives. Emily is always great when in her element and even Teddy did well.

Casey and Brooklyn: I’m really liking Bonnie Story this season, technique face loved that term. Casey was they star of the routine. Brooklyn did well but now she just has to step up her game to match Casey.

Zack and Jacque: Cat took the words right out of my mouth in comparing this to a NappyTabs routine, but I was thinking more of  “Mad” by Philip and Jeanine. I honestly like these types of hip hops just very smooth. I really like this partnership and thought they both did well.

Ricky and Valerie: I love the Viennese Waltz and Lacey choreographed a beautiful one. It’s great to see what they can do when the don’t have to follow DWTS rules. Add they fact she had great dancers to work with and you have memorable ballroom dance.

Emilio and Bridget: Both did surprisingly well with the jive for non ballroom dancers.

Bottom 3

Marcquet and Jourdan: I enjoyed the choreography but Marcquet needs to step it up a bit. Agree that there was just something missing with these two.

Surge and Carly: I like these two but this dance did help them much. I like the concept though. Just didn’t seem to fit them.

Stanley and Jessica:  I love Jessica but she needs to step in up if she wants to stay in the competition. I love Tyce’s concept and choreography though probably would have been better if another couple did the dance

Who’s my pick for the bottom six next week. I think we may see Surge, Carly, Marcquett,  and Jessica. The other two I’m not sure about.

Great opening from Pharside and Phoenix from the crew Academy of villans.  Amazing costumes as well.

Misty Copeland is back on the judges panel and Nigel decided to sit in the middle. Can’t say I was too surprised by the bottom six.

Tonight’s show made up for last week’s show. Overall it was fun and entertaining. Anyone notice a song that was reused from a previous season. Tyce used the song Mosquito’s tweeter for his jazz number…which was used in season 8 for a tap with Jess and Nick.

Also looks like we have another SYTYCD couple in the making…Rudy and Jacque. It has work out so far with other couples, Twitch and Allison are married and Lauren and Dominic are still together.

Judge went with America’s bottom 2 this week. What are your thoughts?

Enjoyed the opening number from Josh Burgasse, gave me a flashback of a tap routine I did my senior year of high school. This was a preview of the choreography of the Broadway show “On the Town”, which is part of the prize for the winner this year.

I found myself more excited about the choreographers this time weather than the dancers. Maybe it was the partner switch, but I just was feeling for most of the performances. I also didn’t agree with the bottom six either but four out of the six seemed to redeem themselves where as Nick and Marlene did not, judges made the right call this week.

Top 4

Jacque and Zack: When I heard African Jazz and Sean Cheesman was involved I was already interested. This turned out to be the best routine of the night. Hair, make up, costumes, and concert were amazing. Jacque and Zack also performed this piece well.

Valerie and Ricky: Luckily they were one of the couples who did well with the switch up. Ricky is just amazing and to hear some of his training came from Desmond Richardson sort of surprised me and then eventually I thought well that makes sense. Valerie proved she can do things outside of just tap.

Carly and Surge: Carly was great last week and this week. Surge had to prove himself this week and to be honest I didn’t think he had to. He may no be the best at contemporary but he connected with the emotional aspect of the dance. Like the judges say all the time, Sonya knows how to get the best out of her dancers.

Brooklyn and Casey: Another great Argentine Tango from Miriam and Leonardo. How Casey ended up in the bottom I not sure other than maybe he is just easily forgotten. Brooklyn more than made up for her performance last week, and seem to prove that maybe her nerves got the better of her last week.

Middle 4

Emily and Teddy: I actually really enjoyed this and thought they both did a great job. Agreed that Emily should connect a little more with her partner first before focusing on performing for the audience.

Jourdan and Marcquet: Marcquet seems to be a very well-rounded dancer and I think he has a strong fan base. Jourdan I thought did a good job but I think she still has a lot to prove.

Tanisha and Rudy: I really didn’t find much wrong with this dance and I don’t think they will be in the bottom anytime soon. Rudy has a lot of room to grow and I think he will.

Bridgett and Emilio: This was in Emilio’s element and he did well but Bridgett wasn’t  believable. I think she could have been more hard-hitting.

Bottom 2

These two dances Nigel seemed to be a little too harsh on the dancers when it came to the Choreography, which isn’t their fault. I understand not liking the choreography but I at least will judge the dancers on how well they performed what was given to then. It’s ok to mention if you don’t like it but don’t go on and on about what was wrong with the  choreograph cause the last I checked the dancers don’t have any say in what is choreographed. So I’d wish they would critique the dancers and not the choreographers.

Nick and Jessica: It took others to say the song wasn’t right for the dance for me to realize that it was the song that was throwing me off. I thought they both did rather well but something seemed off. Jessica may be in danger next week but I don’t think she will go home jut yet.

Marlene and Stanley: Stanley is a great dancer but he had no connection with his partner and also seemed to out perform her…I don’t think he will be safe next week

Stanley and Jessica have a very good chance of being in the bottom but who will join them. I think we might see Bridgett, and Jourdan. As for the boys I’m a little more unsure of who might be there but I’m sure it will be a surprise.

Emmy Nominations 2014

Emmy nominations were announced this morning. SYTYCD had a total of seven nominations.

The show itself is up for best reality competition series.

Cat Deely is nominated again for best host maybe this could be her year. Jane Lynch(Hollywood Game Night) is her biggest competition this year…well in my opinion.

Choreography nominees are Travis Wall, Chris Scott, Mandy Moore, NappyTabs, and Derek Hough (for DWTS). Not sure which dances were nominated but I’ll updated when the Emmy’s update their page.

The seventh is most likely for some part of the production…once the Emmy’s site is updated I’ll know more.

Top 20 to Top 18: Thoughts

First things first…I’d like to wish Nigel a happy birthday, even if he was a bit harsh on some of the choreographers.

I really like Misty Copeland a guest judge. She is giving the dancers praise and constructive criticism.

Anyone else get excited about what choreographers are in the audience? The dancer in me was geeking out and they created great numbers.

Most of the new couples seem to be working out okay. Also I wasn’t thrilled with the bottom six. No solos? I do agree with what Nigel said at the top of the show. They are all winners in away. The first cut is always the hardest but based on tonight’s performances the judges made the right decision.

What are your thoughts on the show tonight?

Top 20 Power Rankings

First let me start by saying what a great way to start the live shows of season 11. Since everyone got to perform in their own style I figured I rank each of the different genres, with the exception of tap, ballet, and hip hop they will form their own group.

Contemporary

1. Ricky and Jessica: Sonya out did herself on this piece. Just an absolutely gorgeous dance that was the best of the night. I think it safe to say that these two are safe judging from the judges reactions and the reactions on social media. What I loved most was how simple the music was, it gave the illusions like they they were dancing with our any music.

2. Rudy and Carly: Stacey Tookey’s choreography is always easy to watch and enjoy. I loved they way Rudy and Carly  performed this with such emotion. I think Rudy could very easily be a fan favorite.

3. Stanley and Bridget: I love Bonnie Story and this dance. I think that both Stanley and Bridget are great dancers. Stanley for me is right up there with Ricky as the best male contemporary dancer I just hope he doesn’t get lost in the mix.

4. Casey and Emily: I love Travis’s work and I loved this as well. I just felt like the other contemporary dances outshines it but not by much. I love Emily and Casey as a pair it kinda stinks that they will be split up next week. I really hop they make it to the next round. Emily is one of my favorites this season.

Ballroom

1.Nick and Tanisha: So happy to have Louis Van Amstel back on the show. That may have been the fastest I’ve have ever seen the judges talk…too bad they can always do that, they can ramble at times. I think that Tanisha and Nick were the best ballroom couple of the night. Tanisha for me is the best out of the girls.

2. Surge and Brooklyn: Overall loved the dance and the choreography by Dmitry. I do have to agree with what the judges had to say about Brooklyn. Surge was able to steal the attention from her. Had her nervousness not gotten the best of her, I think she would have been fine.

3. Marquet and Marlene: I’m not sure what it was about this dance that seemed to fall flat to me. They danced well and it’s one of the few time that I rely on the judges opinion.

Others

1. Zack and Valerie: It’s not really a secret that I love tap and I was loving Anthony Morigerato’s Choreography. I know the hard work it takes to pull of a routine like that. Stairs are not an easy prop for tap dancers especially cause tap shoes can be slippery. My personal favorite of the night.

2. Jacque and Jourdan: I had to rewatch this pas de duex because I was sure who lost their balance during the dance. I’m pretty sure it was Jourdan and thankfully the judges didn’t seem to mind but Nigel was being a tad bit nit picky.

2. Emilio and Teddy: This and the ballet were even to me which is why there and two 2s. I have to admit I kinda have a crush on these two Sure part the reason is the Teddy taps as well and Emilio was reminding me a bit of Dominic. I love that Chris Scott choreographs to songs you would never think of doing a hip hop to. The smoothness of the dance is why I enjoyed it.

So who’s going to be the first to be eliminated? It’s kind of tough to figure out, it’s easier  to figure who will be staying. It’s a toss up really…they are all really good it’s more about who gets lost in the mix and what dances are easily forgotten about.

Hope everyone had a safe 4th of July weekend.

Top 20 Performance Thoughts and Voting Info

Jason Derulo is our guest judge this week…and he comes from a tap background…who knew.

All dancers are dancing in there own genre this week. I think it gives viewers a great chance to compare dancers in the same genre.

Also voting has changed…I think I got the jist of it. First you can vote over at main website fox.com/dance or download the fox now app, where you get 20 votes to split between the dancers or give them to just one dancer.

Give me feedback on who you like, favorite dance, and more. It will help me with my power rankings. Tweet me @Amanda_516 if you like.

ENJOY THE SHOW!
