SYTYCD: Season 14 Thoughts on Who will be Safe from Elimination
Let me start off by saying a true rankings post isn’t my strong suit…probably because I don’t like doing them. They just fell into my lap when I became the only blogger on this site. So I decided to do something new a post on who will be safe, who might be safe and who is in danger of going home. This will just my opinion of how well I think each of the top ten performed last night.
Safe
Taylor: From the moment I saw her standing on Robert’s shoulders, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. Taylor and Robert’s connection is the reason this dance worked so well and managed to get a standing ovation from the judges last night. I’ll admit I really didn’t take notice of her right away but after last night I’ll be l paying closer attention to her. I hope that we will get to know Taylor better next week.
Mark: What can I saw other than Mark was born to be a performer. Just watching him being a ham while the judges we giving Comfort and him their critiques, kept me entertained. While his personality will help him make it far in the competition, hopefully his dancing will also prove why Mark will be around for a while in this competition.
Lex: The only dancer to perform a dance that isn’t his defined strong suit. I agree with Nigel, Lex is a great all around dancer and technician. Hopefully we will see more of his personality come through in the next few weeks. If he is able to connect with the audience Lex has a real chance to win.
Dassy: I just really enjoy watching her dance and she was able to keep me watching her and not pay too much attention to FikShun. Looking forward to seeing what else Dassy can do…I think her sass will go well with a fun Broadway number.
Might be safe
Logan: I’m pretty sure Logan will be safe because he did have a good performance and was able to adapt quickly to a new partner. That being said with Allison being injured, the audience didn’t get to see what kind of connection they had together. It might have been what was missing from his performance. I hope Allison will be back next week.
Koine: I think Koine and Marko will be a great duo on this show. I thought she danced beautifully but at the end on the night this just landed in the middle for me. It was good but not great. I do think they will be safe and hopefully will impress the next week.
Robert: I’ve liked Robert since his first audition. I’m really hoping he will be able to keep up with Jasmine when it comes to other styles.
In danger
Kaylee: I almost feel like Nigel’s comments, especially if the viewing audience took it to heart, could put her in danger. I tend to side with Mary and Vanessa when it comes to Kaylee. She is a unique dancer and I think Vanessa was right by saying Kaylee needed more weightlessness to her dancing. So her challenge will be to know when not to be so grounded.
Kiki: I don’t actually think Kiki will be the first to leave the competition because he is a great ballroom dancer. However, Jenna very easily can steal you focus from him. Kiki’s biggest challenge is to out dance Jenna in the other styles they may face.
Sydney: I just don’t think Sydney was memorable enough. I’ve watched the dance back a few times and still can’t quite figure out what was missing for me. Maybe there wasn’t enough pizzaz in her performance.
Someone will be the first to leave the competition next week, and I’m not sure who it will be. My biggest advice that I would give to all of the contestants is to dance from the heart and like it’s the last time they will be on the SYTYCD stage.
Hmm I agree with most of this except I would put Koine as Safe (she’s gonna be the dark horse this season), Dassy In Danger (haven’t heard much about her from people which make me think she might have been forgotten), and Kaylee in the middle (I’ve seen some rallying for her after what Nigel said lol but she didn’t have a good running order position). I have a feeling Sydney is going to be first to go unless someone the judges really don’t like is in he bottom with her. 🙁
Julia, I agree about Koine I think she will be a dark horse. I just hope Nigel will layoff the match making next week. I thought Nigel harsh on Kaylee too. Thanks for the input…there are a few I moved around several time while writing this…Sydney was the only one that I got the gut feeling she could be going home.
I like your categories rather than ranking and I totally agree with your assessments. As a non dancer, it’s hard to articulate why I respond better to some routines than others but I do think too that Dydney could be in danger. Her routine lacked the crispness and musicality that other ball room dancers seem to have although she still was better than others from previous seasons. The caliber of the top ten this year at least in this first week is outstanding.
I also THINK the judges often watch the dress rehearsals and I wonder if their comments sometimes reflect both performances.
I hesitate to criticize anything though since I am just so thrilled to have it back!!!!!
I think that Dassy, Lex, Mark, Taylor were the ones who stood out the most. I think if I was going to rate the performances I would do it:
1) Taylor & Robert
2) Dassy & Fik Shun
3) Lex & Gaby
4) Mark & Comfort
Taylor and Robert just took my breath away I was in awe. Dassy and Fik Shun were just so much fun to watch and its obvious they have a cute partnership, Lex and Gaby was just plain fun to watch, and Mark and Comfort same thing as Dassy and Fik shun another great partnership that I can’t wait to see more of.
After that I enjoyed a lot of the several remaining dances and would rank them as:
5) Koine & Marko
6) Kaylee & Cyrus
7) Robert & Jasmine
8) Logan & Audrey (Allison)
9) Sydney & Paul
10) Kiki & Jenna
I think pretty much Robert and up is safe. Logan, Sydney, and Kiki are the ones I think are in the most danger. Especially Kiki. As soon as I saw that Jenna had picked him my first thought was oh no. I wasn’t shocked because of all the connections there but I think it was the wrong choice. Yes Kiki is a great ballroom dancer but it seems like that’s where it ends. He really seemed to struggle during the academy especially with hip hop. And he has a tendency to fall in the background which he has done now in both dances he’s done with Jenna. I know Kiki was the safe choice but I think she would have had a better chance of going further with Kevin. Also Nigel’s comment during their critique makes me think he sees the potential for an early elimination too. Sydney was good but she wasn’t as memorable as others. Same for Logan he was great and kudos to Audrey for stepping in but I kinda forgot about the dance, maybe it was running order that played a role. I think he’s safe for another week.
As for the rest I agree that Koine could definitely be a darkhorse she was pretty subdued in this first dance but it was still beautiful. Kaylee it seemed like some of the dance felt a little heavy but it did seem to fit the tension of the dance and kudos to Cyrus for being there as a partner every step of the way for Kaylee. Robert and Jasmine were a lot of fun but I feel like the reason I remember it is because it was at the very end had they gone more towards the beginning or in the middle I don’t think I would really remember it.
If I were to guess right now I would say it’s between Kiki and Sydney going home next week, possibly Logan or Robert being thrown in the mix. But my gut says Kiki especially based on what Nigel said.
There’s so many aspects of the show that play a role in weather or not a contestant gets votes. I do wonder how many fans will vote for a contestant simply because the are dancing with their favorite all star.
Keep the feed back coming I love knowing what other’s think and maybe someone saw something I missed.
The All-Stars are absolutely a major factor behind a lot of the voting and I feel that they’re starting to overshadow the actual contestants. The show seems to kind of be making it more about them and it’s getting annoying lol. This is why I think people like Kiki, Dassy, and Logan might escape bottom 2 on Monday despite being seemingly forgettable to some since Jenna, Fik-Shun, and Allison all seem to have dedicated followings of people who are set to vote for them regardless of what they think of their partner.
Plus Allison is married to Twitch. I know when it comes to casting the all stars, their availability plays a part…but why not bring back those we may not remember. I had forgotten about Audrey but it was great seeing her.
