Top 20 Results Show SYTYCD Canada

I am happy that my power rankings were correct this week.

Here is a Summary of Tonight’s Results Show:

Opening Number:
“Jai Ho” – Slumdog Millionaire
Longinus Fernandes

This was amazing! The colours, the moves, the synchornization, everything was absolutely stunning!

Judges:
Luther Brown
Tre Amrstrong
Jean-Marc Genereux
Special GUest – Mia Michaels

First 5 Couples out:
Charlene & Jeff – SAFE
Nathalie & Mackenzie – SAFE
Claudia & Yonni – Dancing for their lives
Kloe & Jonathan – SAFE
Julia & Jesse – SAFE

So far my Power Rankings were correct… let’s see how the rest of the results go…

Next 5 couples out:
Kirsten & Jera – Dancing for their lives
Danielle & Sebastian – SAFE
Amanda & Denys – SAFE
Bree & Edgar – Dancing for their lives
Janick & Shavar – SAFE

After last week’s horribly inaccurate Power Rankings, I am glad to see I was accurate this week.

Solo’s – Dancing for their life:

Males:
Yonni – sexy and great attitude
Jera – beautiful, acrobatic with lot’s of spins a nice combo of his styles
Edgar – smooth but hard, great swagga

Females:
Claudia – Sexy but didn’t bring as much as I would expect dancing for your life
Kirsten – beautiful movement she seemed really nervous and shakey
Bree – my favourite of the three ladies she used the whole stage high and low

Sent home:
-Bree
-Yonni

Thoughts:

Bree danced the best solo but was weakest out of the three when looking at their entire body of work so far. I was shocked by Yonni the most, I thought Edgar would go home.

And now we have a Top 18, check back next Monday for power rankings and next Tuesday for results. We will also have other fun things posted throughout the week.

SYTYCD Canada TOp 20 Can’t Live Without…

This week’s clips of the SYTYCD Canada Dancer’s has them answer the question, “What one thing can you not live without?”

Here were their responses:

Bree – earplugs to sleep
Edgar – chain (his bling necklace)
Denys – milk for strong bones
Amanda – deodorant because she sweats dancing
Jera – dance belt “man thong” because he needs support
Kirsten – dance bag with her ballet shoes and vitamins
Mackenzie – ham and pineapple pizza “it’s Fruit and meat mmmm”
Nathalie – bread and cheese which she grew up eating
Yonni – espresso he needs 3 a day
Claudia – her dog
Jeff – yoga mat
Charlene – shoes
Jesse – sunglasses
Julia – travelling
Sebastian – ice cream
Danielle – heart necklace which is a symbol for family so they are always close
Janick – eye make up remover because as a dancer she wears a lot of makeup and needs to take it off
Shavar – boxer briefs
Kloe – bronzer her nick name is “Orangey” ha ha ha
Jonathan – backpack “Man purse”

Some of these were very sentimental (Danielle for example) while others were hilarious (intentional or not)

I love the little clips before they dance, getting to know the dancers a bit more. Can’t wait for next week’s Top 18 question / clip.

If you were producer what question or clip would you want to see before the dance?

Tune in Tonight when the Top 20 becomes the Top 18

Power Rankings for SYTYCD Canada Top 20

Last week I failed at my rankings, then again, most agree Canada failed at voting, but I digress. Here are my thoughts based on tonight’s performances.

Please feel free to comment if you agree, disagree or have anything to add or say.

********** TOP 3 **********

1. Amanda & Denys – Contemporary – Sabrina Matthews
Perfect – Hedley
1-877-977-4602

I liked the story, A girl finds out she is terminaly ill, and her boyfriend feels bad he cant help her. Sabrina Matthews created a master piece. I got goosebmps and that usually equals a Top 3 rankings. There was beautiful movement and it was emotionally moving. I loved it! Well danced!

2. Jeff & Charlene – Contemporary – Stacey Tookey
Breathing – Alisa Turner
1-877-977-4606

Based on a real story from a letter from a depressed person who used her daughter to pull through. Stacey is amazing. Goosebumps and you know what that means.. Top 3 ranking… It was in their genre so it had to be wonderful. Very beautiful!

3. Kloe & Jonathan – Jazz – Blake McGrath
California Gurls – Katy Perry ft Snoop Dogg
1-877-977-4610

Very fun theme, sexy and hot… perfect song choice. Thank goodness she took off those heels – yikes! Blake’s choreo is always hot and quite precise. This had some great moments but was mostly just fun to watch. I think people will vote for it because of that reason. I had no idea Kloe had a bad ankle she pulled through that routine without me noticing which is why I put this 3rd and not 4th.

********** MIDDLE **********

4. Nathalie & Mackenzie – Hip Hop – Sho-Tyme
All I do is Win – DJ Khaled ft T-Pain, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross
1-877-977-4604

I love hip hop overall and these two did a good job, Mackenzie is pretty to look at so that helps. There were some very fast moments that could have been a little but more precise but I enjoyed watching it. I was stuck between my top 3 & 4 to be honest. Kloe dancing through a bad ankle is what put them above this routine, barely.

5. Sebastian & Danielle – Theatre – Sean Cheesman
No Good Deed – Idina Menzel – Wicked Soundtrack
1-877-977-4608

Nice twists and lifts. It was very interesting to watch. I enjoyed it a lot. I think people will vote for them.

6. Jesse & Julia – Samba – Tony Meredith & Melanie LaPatin
Cuban Pete – isweat music
1-877-977-4607

Julia’s favourite of her 5 areas of dance I expected her to nail it and she did. Jesse was a fast learner it seemed, he had me convinced, holy hips! The wardrobe change by her was hot, although her dress started to fall apart she danced through it.

7. Shavar & Janick – Krump – Lil C
Whatever – Buckmouth
1-877-977-4609

Funky outfits, he had a tin can on his junk (as Mia pointed out) Shavar was harder hitting than she was but that wasn’t a surprise, neither hit hard enough for krump though. Still, It was “bucc”. But they were out of synch almost the entire time which kind of made it look a mess for me. Loved Lil C calling himself a Warriogropher.

********** BOTTOM 3 **********

8. Jera & Kirsten – Paso Doble – Francis LeFreniere & Natalli Reznik
Iron Might / Mind Control – Position Music
1-877-977-4603

Dramatic movements, lights outfits, the end spin was amazing but the drop was a bit hard at the end. It was good. Not great. I love these two dancers so I hate putting them in the bottom 3 but based on tonight that is where they fall… I don’t see them going home though.

9. Claudia & Yonni – Foxtrot – Danny Quillam
Telephone – Lady Gaga ft Beyonce
1-877-977-4605

Modern music with a not-so-modern dance style, hot outfits, felt a bit slow for the music until the steps around the stage. Mixed results from the judges. I wasn’t feeling it personally but can see the artistic, uniqueness about it. A juxtaposition between tradition and modern… very interesting.

10. Bree & Edgar – Dancehall – Jaeblaze
Clarks (feat Popcaan and Gaza Slim) – Vybz Kartel
1-877-977-4601

Smooth, he is harder hitting than she (hip hop background, vs contemporary) I wasn’t a fan overall. There were moments of good but also moments of random nothing. Luther said it was good dancehall, what do I know about it? Just average for me.

I really have a tough time ranking these dancers… Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Top 10 Females SYTYCD Canada Season 3

Since some people can’t get SYTYCD Canada I thought I would share the dancers promo shot and video clip for everyone. I have included a poll at the end so you can use what you’ve seen here and on the show (if you are able to watch it) and choose your favourite from the Top 20 (10 females and I will do a 10 males post also)

Amanda Cleghorn, 19, Mississauga, Ont.

Bree Wasylenko, 22, Toronto

I can’t find her audition from this year, but this is her last year…

Charlene Hart, 22, Abbotsford, B.C.

Claudia Primeau, 26, Montreal

Danielle Gardner, 21, Surrey, B.C.

Janick Arseneau, 20, Bathurst, N.B.

I can’t find Janick’s audition either, but I did find this cute video montage of her as a kid and now dancing, dancing, dancing…

Julia Harnett, 27, Calgary

Kirsten Wicklun, 20, Vancouver

Kloé Schultz, 20, North Bay, Ont.

Again this is last year’s audition.

Nathalie Heath, 23, Surrey, B.C.

Now you can vote for your favourite.

(polls)

I will post the Males in a bit.

Top 22 Results Show SYTYCD Canada

I realize last night in my Power Rankings I didn’t predict who would go home… I will try to do that for next week in addition to the actual rankings.

Here is a Summary of Tonight’s Results Show:

Opening Number:
Zombie – “Fela” Original Broadway Cast
Bill T Jones choreographed

First 3 Couples out:
Janick & Shavar
Nathalie & Mackenzie
Kirsten & Jera
All 3 are safe.

Next 2 couples out:
Hanni ( & TJ ) – Dancing for his life
Charlene & Jeff – SAFE

Personally this shocked me, since I rated Hanni & TJ’s dance as my favourite of the night.

The rest of the couples came out:
Amanda & Denys – SAFE
Danielle & Sebastian – SAFE
Bree & Edgar – Dancing for their lives
Claudia & Yonni – SAFE
Julia & Jesse – Dancing for their lives
Jonathan & Kloe – SAFE

Solo’s – Dancing for their life:
Males:
Hanni – Strange padding outfit but strong solo.
Edgar – Smooth moves, nice swag but not too many tricks or fancy moves.
Jesse – The best solo of the three in my opinion. Sharp moves, seemed very precise and passionate.

Females:
Bree – She seemed frantic at times but overall beautiful mocement.
Julia – I really loved her solo, it was an unusal song choice (country) for ball room but she worked it with lot’s of kicks and spins. It was my favourite of the two solo’s.

Of course, there was no third female solo because Shelaina was out injured.

Sent home:
-Hanni – not unanimous
-Shelaina – injury related.

Thoughts:

Doctors decided she can not dance due to her injury, therefore she was sent home. Seems the SYTYCD USA Injury Curse has struck Canada too, I hope it ends here. I also hope Shelaina returns… after last year’s attitude I was glad she smartened up this season and am truly sad she has to leave on these terms.

I am sad that my #1 power ranking went home… Hanni. I honestly feel like part of this early voting and decision making is related to screen time and how well viewers get to know the dancers before the performances.

And now we are down to Top 20…

Hopefully my Power Ranking Predictions improve…. or some of you can help me out in the comments section next time?

Power Rankings SYTYCD Canada Top 22

It’s been a while since I did power rankings so bare with me and PLEASE comment below if you agree, disagree, or have something more to say.

We are just getting to know the dancers so I find it even more challenging. Also, I am not a dancing expert so mostly I judge on what I find entertaining and make me want to pick up the phone and vote.

Top 3
1. Hanni & Tara-Jean- Jazz – Nico & Wynn
That’s how Strong my Love is – Otis Redding
1877 977 4611

I am a MASSIVE Nico fan and also TaraJean, so this was just a favourite before it started! It was so cute, TJ was like a ball of sunshine in her yellow dress and beaming smile. It was the only routine of the night to give me chills and therefore gets my #1 ranking… the playful chase and blanket romp was awesome… They saved the best for last.

2. Bree & Edgar – Hip Hop – Jaeblaze
O.M.G – Usher
1877 977 4610

Canada is known for it’s hot routines. This routine was just that. Grinding and thursting – wow! It seemed a bit spastic at times, maybe because it was so fast, but I really enjoyed it a lot. They rocked it! Mary even put Bree on the Hot Tamale Train!

3. Danielle & Sebastian – Bollywood – Longinus Fernandes
Tera Hi Jalwa – Sajid – Wajid (Wanted Cast)
1877 977 4605

Bollywood was good for Sebastian and Danielle also did well… very entertaining. The skirt change could have gone very wrong but it, like the last jump, went without a hitch. Longinus Fernandes is amazing and he is the choreographer from Slumdog Millionaire. I am a HUGE Sebastian Fan, he reminds me of Mark from USA SYTYCD and I love his quirkiness.

Middle 5

4. Jera & Kirsten – Contemporary – Mandy Moore
“Fireflies” by Ron Pope
1877 977 4602

Beautiful. I kept moving this into #3 then #4. Mandy’s a great choreographer. Her feet bothered me at times, I am not sure why, maybe it is the ballet point? After lot’s of bumps and falls in rehearsal they really mastered it. I have no idea what Tre was talking about “watching Twilight on stage” but I enjoyed the routine. This would have been #3 except for her feet annoying me.

5. Janick & Shavar – Afro-Jazz – Sean Cheesman
Dances with wood / baba – Mickey Hard, Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju & Giovanni Hidalgo
1877 977 4608

I personally love Sean Cheesman’s Afro-Jazz most of the time. They had the jumps and moves and the outfits just complimented their moves. The drop spin was awesome as were the air headstand flip thing. I think people should vote for this, it was entertaining and well done. I especially loved the all at the end.

6. Jonathan & Kloe – Hip Hop – Sho-Tyme
X Gon’ Give it to Ya – DMX
1877 977 4606

He was really good, she wasn’t bad… DMX is hard and their moves needed to be harder. That being said, it was entertaining and I think people may vote for them. She kept smiling which looked really strange given the moves… but he got his face down.

7. Yonni & Claudia – Salsa – Tony & Meredith
Calabria 2008 ft Natasja – Enur
1 877 977 4601

White outfit was hot, her blue frills were sexy, great personality, perfect genre for them. Slight fall which looked to be his fault, though the judges did not mention it. She was more in her element than he. Still nice chemistry and a fun routine. I think I am ranking this a bit low, they were so amazing… gah! Too hard to choose this first week.

8. Denys & Amanda – Tango – Tony & Meredith
Grand Guiiignol – Bajofondo
1877 977 4603

Her legs shook a lot and looked awkward at times, but this isn’t her genre. Luckily she had Denys in his genre to lead her and lead her he did. I think tango is a tough first week draw. It felt awkward at times and it wasn’t a favourite of the night at all. Side note – poor girl had bruises all up and down her legs. Mary is hilarious throwing her papers all over the place. To be honest I fast forwarded through a lot of the judges, they didn’t see to be offering a critique but instead sugar coating and spewing random stuff.

Bottom 3

9. Nathalie & Mackenzie – Viennese Waltz – Pierre Allaire
For the Nights I can’t Remember – Hedley
1877 977 4609

Beautiful, Mackenzie is all kinds of sexy. The flip/ lift was fabulous and it felt like a more modern version of the waltz. Technically, I can’t comment, but I enjoyed watching. They did have great chemistry and handled a tough dance well together.

10. Charlene & Jeff – Jive – Danny Arbour
Celebrity Status (Shake Shake) – Marianas Trench
1877 977 4604
Rough spin, but nice lift. Very fun routine. I didn’t like the judges all saying they were “cute” how annoying. It was a it slow for a jive and had awkward moments whichis why I am putting it in the bottom 3

11. Jesse & Julia – New Disco – Melissa Williams
Fame – Lady Gaga
1877 977 4607

Lot’s of fog, props, not sure it enhanced dancing or distracted… incredible outfit, she looked almost nude. Powerful movements, I didn’t see chemistry like some other couples. I could be terribly wrong, it has been a while since I did power rankings but I just don’t think this one will do as well.

Thoughts?

Am I way off?

After choosing the top 10 males they brought Jonathan out to let him know he would be part of the top 22.
During the females they brought out the last 3 girls, who didn’t know about the top 22 and that they all made it.

Some of the “yes” and “no” comments were so cruel, more than usual… “YOu just aren’t top 20 material I am sorry…. you are TOP 10”

Those poor dancers, it’s a wonder they don’t have heart attacks on the spot!!!

Anyways, that’s your TOP 22!!

CTV has Top 22 photo shoot album up here.

So You Think You Can Dance – Season 3 – Toronto Auditions

Tonight SYTYCD Canada kicked off it’s 3rd season with Toronto auditions.

I am quite excited that SYTYCD is on all week and by next Sunday we will get our Top 20 reveal. I feel like this keeps all the dancers fresh in my mind and doesn’t waste a ton of time on auditions.

Toronto is like our Vegas and all the best dancers across the country will meet back there for finals which will air Thursday. [SEE THIS WEEK’S TELELVISION SCHEDULE HERE]

Tonight’s Thoughts on Toronto’s Auditions.

Tonight’s Judges were Jean Marc, Tre Armstrong, Luther Brown, AND Special Guest Mary Murphy

Host is Leah Miller, who I don’t like at all… so apologies in advance to her fans, I just find her annoying!

Here were the featured dancers and some thoughts.

  • Amanda Cleghorn – Straight to finals
  • Aneal Ramkissoon – Bollywood routine, but was told to get more training
  • Jenna Speir – Went to Choreo
  • Ajamu Freezy Everlsey – great dancer
  • Yana Gorodjanova – back from last year, unique dominatrix style routine
  • Roxanne Mignacco – great moves
  • Sarah Vance – 100th invetro baby, went to choreo then to finals
  • Rodrigo Basurto – choreo then finals. He had taken ballet with Shavar to improve, cute montage of them in ballet slippers.
  • Shavar Blackwood – straight to finals, understandably
  • Christian Cee Ancheta – unitard boy – wearing same unitard as last year, said he wore it everyday and trained everyday, it paid off he went straight to finals.
  • Caroline Holody – Cute outfit, wants to impress Jean Marc – went to choreo then finals
  • Alvin Collantes – had an emotional season 2 audition and returned this year to dance for himself after proving to his parents last year dancing was worth pursuing. He has magical movements and strength, went straight to Toronto and an immediate favourite of mine.
  • Enisa Mulic – Luckily, one of the only “bad” dancers they spent any time on (besides a “bad dancer montage” that followed her audition) I was glad, I don’t enjoy watching tons of horrible dancers)
  • Kirstie Kennan – So incredible, her grandma passed away, her mom is sick and her dancing just lets it all out! Went to Choreo then Finals. She had this robotic, yet fluid movement, such passion!
  • Jonathan (JR) Roumain – Former figure skater, I am always hesitant with the cross over though Emmanuel did it amazingly.
  • Brothers Dane Gulston and then Dwayne Boneless Gulston – both went to finals doing awesome hip hop.
  • Charlene Hart – is from Abbotsford BC, she is the one who had her shirt fall off during last year’s auditions, she was sent t choreo then finals.
  • Nisheeth Proshanti – Indian traditional dance and song went to chore but did not make it, one of the few who didn’t.
  • Jesse Wafer – He has done Criss Angel’s Show and heis amazing!
  • Matthew Cuff – was vogue-ing and barely made it to choreo but somehow made it to finals after choreo
  • Nina Strazzula – did acrobatics and was pretty awesome.
  • Jennifer Abbey – hard-hitting went to chore then to finals.
  • Andrew Chung – very confident but backed it up, I really liked his dancing, I hoe he can keep his confidence from being cocky! Went straight to finals
  • Graeam Goodhall – a Street runner from season 1 who has improved his dancing. He didn’t showcase it well and was sent to choreo and then finals. He will have to bring it in finals to go on.
  • Lisa Frias – it is her 3rd time auditioning and she isn’t that strong yet in my opinion but she was sent to chore and then to finals, but I think she will struggle… very likable and sweet though.
  • Patrizia Gianforcaro – her nerves didn’t seem as bad as they made them out to be, in fact, she seemed quite confident. She is really camera cute and would be great on the show I think. I would love to see Sean Cheesman choreo her!
  • Blake Bootcamp

I am a huge Blake fan, I think he is adorably cute, I just wish he’d keep his mouth shut ha ha…. he comes across really egotistical and cocky, to be fair, he is AMAZING!! I love his “Ca ca boom ha ha” as he hits moves… “If you aren’t sweating, I don’t care what the judges say, I’ll send you home”

A shocking amount of dancers made it through the Boot Camp.

    My faves from tonight:

  • Alvin
  • Jesse
  • Andrew
  • Patrizia
  • Nina
  • I was focussingon music to send to Emilie so I may have overlooked some great dancers… who were your faves?

Emilie is working on the music from tonight, it will be a very busy week here is the schedule once again:

Monday, August 16 at 9 p.m. ET (two hours) – Calgary and Halifax Auditions
Tuesday, August 17 at 8 p.m. ET (one hour) – Vancouver Auditions
