SYTYCD Canada Top 12 Tonight

Tonight we see Canada’s Season 4 Top 12 dancers perform.

With such an amazing week of SYTYCD USA finale’s I am still giddy about Melanie’s win! Some amazing routines from her and others, as you can see by scrolling down at some of the posts this week including bloggers favourite routines of the season.

While Season 8 USA has ended, Season 4 Canada is only half way through…

I apologize for not posting results from last week, but I was camping and away all week.

In a nutshell the Top 14 danced to “Rumour Has It” by Adele in a Melissa Williams choreographed Jazz number. Not only were there amazing dancers, but also lights and visuals. One camera angle looked down at dancers as they rolled and moved on the stage and the floor lit up with the word “Love” and hearts and so on. I will post a youtube video for you if I can find it.

Solo’s from the bottom three dancers included: Yulia, Carlena and Geisha for the ladies and JP, Shane and Joey for the guys.

In the end it was Carlena & JP that went home.

Tonight we are ready for the Top 12 and I am hoping for a little more fire. Last week was probably my least favourite episode this season. The dancers and routines were not up to the level we usually see and I was quite disappointed.

Tune in tonight if you have CTV or check back this evening for my summary and Power Rankings.

SYTYCD Canada Top 14 Performance Show

Tonight was another great night of dancing on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. The Top 14 danced for Canada’s votes and tomorrow we will send two more home.

Tonight’s judges were Jean-Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Rex Harrington, Melissa Williams and Dan Karaty.

Once again the couples were swapped up, which seems to be a weekly thing now, however, it seemed more couples had at least one dancer in their genre. I like the switch up because it moves the votes around a bit more, but it is also scary because it puts certain dancers in danger undeservingly perhaps. Tonight’s dances left me a little disappointed overall… but I will talk about that more at the end of this post…

Anyhow, here is a summary of the night:

Francois & Jordan
Samba – Gustavo Vargas
“Chillando Goma” Chillando Goma - Fulanito: Greatest Hits – Fulanito

Francois was in his genre, Jordan was way out, but you wouldn’t know it (unless you watched her feet carefully ha!) There were a lot of cool twists, spins and lifts. Gustavo warned it was about hips, hair and legs – and he was right! It was sexy and fun!

Joey & Geisha
Contemporary – Stacey Tookey
“Gasoline Rainbows” Gasoline Rainbows - Gasoline Rainbows – Amy Kuney

The idea was that Geisha comes from the polluted future to warn Joey and encourage him to protect the environment. To me, the story was not really told, but the dance itself was beautiful as was the song. This was good for Geisha, who I feel is not as strong as the other female dancers. She was paired with the most amazing Joey and pulled it off, though he was still the star of the routine.

Yulia & JP
Hip Hop – ShoTyme
“Give ‘Em What They Asking For” Give Em What They Askin' For - Back On My B.S. (Bonus Track Version) – Busta Rhymes

This was so-so for me. JP was starting to grow on me, and this being his genre I expected a lot more. Yulia, as I have always said, is a ballroom girl and generally excels in her genre and never really peaks in anything else.

Lindsey & Christian
Jazz Funk – Blake McGrath
“Blow” Blow - Cannibal – Ke$ha

This was a couple reuniting again this season not only with each other but with Blake as choreographer who worked with them week two. Given that, I think I expect a bit more since they have that history together. The story was a couple who has to choose love or career. For me it was weird. It didn’t feel Jazz-Funk (though who am I to judge what that even is exactly, I expect it from Sonya or Sean Cheesman usually) and was just a bit strange. I don’t know if it was the choreo or the execution. I typically love Blake and I really love Lindsey, but this was just so-so for me.

Denitsa & Matt
Cha Cha – Francis LaFreniere & Claudia Primeau
“Give Me Everything” Give Me Everything (feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer) - Give Me Everything (feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer) - Single – Pitbull ft Ne-Yo

It was nice to see alumni Claudia and Francis back to do choreography again. This routine had a lot of potential but fell flat in some areas. First, Denitsa was in her element and did well and Matt did his best but there were some technical errors that even my husband noticed. The most obvious was near the end when Matt went to grab for al ift too soon then stopped, then when they did the lift he slipped and they kind of fell forward. We have seen this before, it is part of life, but coming off an average performance, it puts a damper on the whole thing. Also there was far too much time spent in a slow embrace when there could have been dancing, and right in the middle of the routine.

Carlena & Shane
Contemporary – Sabrina Matthews
“Wise Up” Wise Up - Jerry Maguire (Music from the Motion Picture) – Aimee Mann

This was about being unable to take back words once you say them, as if that can be portrayed clearly in a routine? It was pretty slow moving and as far as Sabrina Matthews goes, it wasn’t my favourite.

Adam & Melissa
Hip Hop – Luther Brown
“Buyou” Buyou - No Boys Allowed (Deluxe) – Keri Hilson

Well, Melissa has had four consecutive standing ovations from all the judges, whoever they may be that week, with whoever she may be dancing with that evening. Amazing! It was a fun, sexy, hard-hitting routine that was my favourite of the night and being last of the night will be memorable and likely get them plenty of votes to stay safe.

Power Rankings:

Top 3:

-Adam & Melissa
-Joey & Geisha
-Francois & Jordan

Middle:

-Carlena & Shane

Bottom 3:

-Lindsey & Christian
-Denitsa & Matt
-Yulia & JP

I was really off last week, so we will see how it goes this week. To be honest, I was a tad disappointed overall this week with the routines. They weren’t as impressive as past weeks. I feel like based on JUST tonight’s dances, many would risk going home. Though, some of it may have been choreography, and maybe my own mood, but I just didn’t feel it tonight as much as I usually do.

Anyhow, please comment below if you agree or disagree or have something to add….

Results Show is Tomorrow Night, I will be away camping so unless wordpress agrees with my blackberry and service is clear at the lake, I won’t post until I return Friday evening.

Also tomorrow on the results show Melissa Williams’ group routine is about relationships and rumours. Host Leah Miller reminded us a trillion times to tune in….

Results from SYTYCD Canada Top 16 becomes 14

Tonight’s episode shocked me horribly.

My #1 routine from last night ended up not only in the bottom 3, but were the two couples sent home!

I can#t believe they got into the Bottom 3, however, given one of their solo’s I knew they would be going home.

Here is how the show went:
Melissa & Christian – safe
Denitsa & Joey – not safe
JP & Geisha – safe (I was shocked!)
Jordan & Shane – now safe (I was shocked!)
Carlena & Adam – safe
Francois & Lindsey – safe
Shelaina & Kevin – not safe (I was shocked!)
Yulia & Matt -safe (I was shocked!)

These voting results had be absolutely stunned!

Onto the solos:

GALS:

Denitsa – “These Boots were made for walking” – Nancy Sinatra

She did well. It was her style, which she excels at, but I have yet to see much else outside of this that wow’s me.

Jordan – “Gorecki” – Lamb

Stunning, beautiful, if she was sent home for this solo, or this week, I think I actually may have stopped watching!

Shelaina

Her solo was pretty weak. While I DO NOT think she should have been in the Bottom 3, based on solo’s alone, her was the weakest. Which is too bad because she is one of my favourites this season and was my favuorite routine last night!

GUYS:

Joey

Amazing, he is so beautiful to watch.

Shane

Another fantastic solo

Kevin

another great solo, all the men were fabulous.

Results:
Shelaina and Kevin were sent home, in what I think is a complete upset!

What do you think? I am still surprised! I hopepeople start voting, I mean Jordan in bottom three? With that amazing routine last night? Shelaina and Kevin? really?

Comment Below – Please, I am dying for others thoughts on this!!!

Oh and sorry for lack of music, I was really in shock and focused on the solo’s not the songs tonigt, my apologies!

SYTYCD Canada Top 16 Performance Show

I am sorry I did not post this last night, but it was a Canadian long-weekend and although I watched the show, I was exhausted from a busy long weekend and didn’t hop on the computer.

But, here is the information from last night’s show. Tonight will be the results show.

Judges: Jean-Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Sergio Trujillo, Dan Karaty.

Francois & Lindsey
Hip Hop – Luther Brown
“Massive Attack” – Nicki Minaj

She was definately harder hitting than him. They were alien robots and they moved very quickly. It was entertaining and fun and should keep them safe, I hope.

Jordan & Shane
Contemporary – Nico Archambault & Wynn Holmes
“Wake Up Alone” – Amy Winehouse

This was a moving piece, not only because of the artist, Amy Winehouse’s recent death, but also because of the choreography. It is no secret how much I adore Jordan, and I am also a huge fan of Nico and Wynn. This piece was really amazing and the way the two moved together was really effortless. Judge Dan Karaty commented on how in past seasons it was aspiring dancers, but how we are spoiled this season with such talented, established dancers. This was one of my favourites of the night.

Yulia & Matt
Quick Step – Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
“Can’t Touch It” – Ricky-Lee

They had good speed, it was good choreography, but overall just an average performance for me. I expected more from Yulia since it was her genre. Great effort, but just sort of fell short unfortunately.

Christian & Melissa
Tango – Tony Meredith and Melanie LePatin
“La Bohemia” – Electro Dub

This has some really nice lifts and flips. It was extremely sexy. I really enjoyed it, and I generally don’t care for the ballroom as much as Contemporary or hip hop.

Geish & JP
House – ShoTyme
“What I Need” – Crystal Waters

This was kind of a hot mess in my opinion. I tlooked chaotic, and not the “controlled chaos” that some routines require. JP looked very feminine in the white wavy pants, which took away form his foot work because they were flapping around his legs. It was a really good effort, you could see them really trying, but it fell short for me as it looked all over the place.

Kevin & Shelaine
Contemporary – Sabrina Matthews
“Rolling Deep” – Adele

The story for this routine, as Sabrina Matthews always has a story, was a man who left his wife for another woman and is now trying to get her back. She is supposed to be angry and Shelaina played the part well. It was very angry and spastic, on the edge of losing control, but still in control (unlike the House piece with JP and Geisha) it was emotional, it told the story well and was really engaging to watch. Probably my favourite of the night, which is saying something because usally Jordan steals that spot!

Denitsa & Joey
Salsa – Gustavo Vargas
“Mirame” – Chivirico Davila

The judges really loved this piece, but I didn’t see it. Of course I am not a salsa expert but to me they wereout of synch, lacked chemistry and their arms were tangled and not fluid. I love Joey and I know Jean-Marc loves Denitsa, so maybe the judges comments were to try and convince viewers they were good and to vote? Besides a nice ending lift I just found the routine to be pretty unimpressive.

Carlena & Adam
Theatre – Sean Cheesman
“Kiss of the Spiderwoman” – Chita Rivera

I always love Sean Cheesman’s choreography. He takes a very unique approach to the music and this routine was no different. I loved Carlena in this, she was fierce! Adam did well also, catching and throwing and supporting Carlena, but she was definately the star! There seemed to be a hiccup with a lift, but no one mentioned it so maybe I am wrong… they really beat up each other in this routine flying and jumping all over. It was supposed to be the battle between the King and Queen in chess – really awesome!!

SO based on that here are my POwer Rankings, feel free to argue. I am going against the judges on a few here so will be interesting if Canada votes with judges or how I think they might.

Top 3:
Kevin & Shelaina
Jordan & Shane
Christian & Melissa

Middle 2:
Carlena & Adam
Francois & Lindsey

Bottom 3:
Denitsa & Joey
JP & Geisha
Yulia & Matt

I know my Bottom 3 were not the judges Bottom 3, so I could be way off, but that is how I felt about the routines – so I am going with my gut. I think JP and Geisha will go home…. even though I thought LAST NIGHT Yulia and Matt were not as good.

We will see later tonight – – – Comments? Leave them below!

SYTYCD Canada Calgary & Halifax Auditions

Tonight was Calgary and Halifax Auditions. Emilie is compiling music lists AJ & I sent her and will post as soon as possible.

In the meantime, let’s look at the actual auditions…

Starting in last season’s favourite dancer, Tara-Jean’s home town of Calgary Leah Miller is outside line dancing with locals “yee haw”

Judges – Jean Marc, Tre Armstrong, Luther Brown and guest judge: Stacey Tookey.

Audition Summary:

  • Steven Morton – calls himself a triple threat, loves being on stage, mime, kicks, hilarious, he sang also, which was – interesting. An obvious no, and an odd opening to the show which otherwise had some great dancers.
  • Jo Roy – danced Hip Hop on point, a little different, risky but interesting, “fusion of styles” unique I liked her. She made it right to finals.
  • Devorou Scott – Cutie Patutie crushing on Tre, needs training, was sent to choreo anyways but failed miserably.
  • Christina Schell – From Langley BC, 19, very fun and cute. She was a nice dancer who went to chore.
  • Kevin Howe – Season 1 finalist cut after ballroom, didn’t come back for season 2 because his father passed away, lost 50 pounds and looks great I really like him! He went right to finals!
  • Jera Wolfe – Royal Winnipeg Dance School from Nova Scotia a BBOY turns Ballet dancers, i really liked him alot.
  • Carlena Britch – is from Vancouver and has a funky style. I think he would be good on the show. She went to choreoa nd made it to finals.
  • Angela Benson – Moving Story about Parents in wheelchairs sheis quirky and cute, she went to chore but didn’t make it.
  • Arik Pipestem – Traditional Native Music dancing in his traditional outfit with hoops. He went to choreo and made it – which shocked me. Last time he auditioned he did not make it but he has lost weight since then and trained in other areas, very likable!
  • Arik tried to show Leah Miller, the host, how to dance with the hoops, she had a “fake” tantrum.. she was annoying me as usual, although by the end of tonight’s show I felt differently about her, but we will get to that! It’s her whiney voice that gets on my nerves!!!

    anyways, let’s continue…

  • Julia Harnett and Rufino Rodrigez – danced together, this woman has the most solid calve muscles I have ever seen!! She used to do ballet but now ballroom with him, both go to finals.
  • Nice Montage of bad dancers, again I appreciate that we don’t waste a ton of time on the terribly / joke dancers… though wait for Vancouver, Spandy Andy WILL return….

  • Shelaina Anderson – last year she was the snobby, selfish contestent who let down her group in finals but she is back, with shorter hair and a new maturity. She danced fabulously and I think will do much better this year.
  • Alex Schween – came in doing hip hop and as devestated when Luther Brown criticized her. She went to choreo and made it… I don’t think she will make the show but who knows.
  • Edgar Gilbert – Reyes –I really like this guy. He worked with Blake McGrath in his video. He is Smooth, fun, charismatic, has a nice look, and agood groove
  • Danielle Gardner – Sheis from Surrey, BC (I am bias to BC contestents sorry, Vancouver born and raised) I loved her song (LYKKE LI – TONIGHT) and I remember her from last seasons auditions… she has a Lung condition which leaves her short of breat. Since last season she has started new medication which has improved her condition… she is a beautiful dancer – she opened with a crazy twisted position and just stretched the limits – if she can keep her medical condtion under control I think she will do very well.
  • Gary Benthem – School Counsellor out to show his students you can do anything. He shockingly made it to choreo but not mch further, strong effort and great lesson to his students.
  • The second hour was HALIFAX – Auditions

    Guest Judge: Dan Karaty

This is Natalie Lyons hometown and where Tara-Jean, Francis and Allie auditioned.

  • Yuliya Zavadska & Sharone Levit – just got immigration approved and came to audition.
  • Rebecca Morash – went to choreo, good audition
  • Curtis Jean – went to choreo, barely, and struggled. He walked off the stage during choreo in fact
  • Meaghan Deitrich – She had a condition when she was 16 where her knee caps dislocated. She has had surgery and dances ballet beautifully now. She went to finals.
  • Chris Pelrine – Cheesey Tap Dancer who did not make it through.
  • Krista Mitchnick – She was cute and had a good look for the show but seemed too tight for me, the judges sent her to choreo
  • Janaye Upshaw – I really liked her a lot. She talked about her stage mom and she did a tap routine. I thought she was awesome, the judges said she was comfortable. She went right to finals.
  • Catherine Turcotte – She did Ballroom well but her face bugged me, she did this puffy cheek thing. Judges called her “urban” and Last year auditioned with Vincent but this year solo – went to chore.
  • Leah Miller “keep warm” Boot Camp outside had dancers trying to keep warm.

  • Trevor Johnson – I wasn’t paying attention but he walked out of Blake boot camp so *shrugs*
  • Katiana Pare – lost her father and dances out her emotions, was sent right to finals.
  • Roxanne – the cheerleader from Toronto who forgot her routine. She was sent to choreo but didn’t make it.
  • Here is what changed my mind (slightly) about Leah Miller.

She did Blake Boot Camp!!!!! I was really shocked – I don’t LIKE her yet, but I don’t hate her as much ha!

    Boot Camp Results:
    Catherine – yes
    Roxanne – no
    Krista – no
Curtis – quit then had muscle cramps and dehydtration
    Rebecca – yes
Other “yes” to finals – Tyrell, Gabriel, Alison, Alexandra, alex, allie.

Tomorrow is the one I am most looking forward too – VANCOUVER!

Spandy Andy will be back (in fact he has an event at a local pub tomorrow to watch SYTYCD Canada with him – I can’t go I have to work)

If you don’t know who Spandy Andy is I will post on him… he’s quite the character.

So You Think You Can Dance Canada Power Rankings Top 8

What a night. I can honestly say we have an unbelievable Top 8. And Mia is right, our Top 4 girls are the best i have seen!!!

Last week I predicted who would go home, however it is getting so difficult. I can say who I feel should be in the bottom or who I think Canada will vote for.

Mia Michaels (with a new shaved head), Dan Karaty, Tre Armstrong and Jean-Marc Genereux were judges and we had Nico Archambault debut as a SYTYCD choreographer. It was indeed a special night.

Although during rehearsals there were multiple injuries with Everett suffering from a bleeding nose from a few kicks in the face to Emmanuel’s sprained ankle (and his fingers are still bandaged) but the show must go on – and it did – and it was spectacular!

    Top 4 Guys Dance
    Jazz with Melissa Williams
“Beggin” The Four Seasons - Jersey Boys - Beggin' – Jersey Boyz

They were not at all in unison, a boy band they are NOT! I did enjoy the solo bits with spins and kicks as well as the overall routine. Vincent stood out for me.

    Top 4 Girls Dance
Burlesque in my opinion with Sean Cheeseman
“Dr. Feelgood” Aretha Franklin - Aretha Franklin: 30 Greatest Hits - Dr. Feelgood (Love Is a Serious Business) – Aretha Franklin

This was sexy, hot and amazing. The girls were in sync, each had a chance to shine and the choreography was super seductive. Jayme Rae stood out *slightly* for me but overall the all shone like the superstars they are.

    Couples

    Vincent & Tara-Jean

    1. Rumba with Eric Caty
“Hero” Enrique Iglesias - Escape - Hero – Enrique Iglesias

Maybe it’s the song but I teared up, I was covered in goosebumps and I enjoyed every moment of this amazing routine. The kiss at the end was hot and Mia Michaels was correct, the end bit was very Karma Sutra. I just loved it, Tara-Jean was sexy and Vincent was powerful and I adored every second of this routine.

    2. Krump with Lil’ C
    “Chea-Chea-Chea” – Tha J Squad

Neither hit it very hard but it was a good effort. Tara-Jean seems to me to be the weakest link of the 4 girls, though even saying that feels wrong because they are all so amazing. Vincent delivered though it was not overly “krumpy” for me.

    Tara-Jean
“Farewell” Rosie Thomas - When We Were Small - Farewell – Rosie Thomas

Passionate, Emotional, Pretty. But not sure if her overall effort will get her to next week.

    Vincent
“U Can’t Touch This” MC Hammer - MC Hammer: Greatest Hits - U Can't Touch This – MC Hammer

Unique song choice for his genre of dance but he delivered. It was hot, sexy and most importantly ENTERTAINING!

    Kim & Cody

    1. Hip Hop with Luther Brown
“Humpin’ Around” Bobby Brown - All the Number Ones - Humpin' Around – Bobby Brown

I loved this routine. Mia Michaels called it “dope” and I concur. It was hard, it was hyped, it was a throw back to old school hip hop and they nailed it. Both of them were in their genre and showed they could rock it out.

    2. Smooth Waltz with Pierre Allaire
“What a Wonderful World” Louis Armstrong - Louis Armstrong's All-Time Greatest Hits - What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong

This fell flat. It was cute and quirky, I was shocked to see Kim not being sexy… but it was not entertaining and as the judges pointed out it showed poor technique and didn’t deliver.

    Kim
“Jerk it” Thunderheist - Thunderheist - Jerk It -Thunderhiest

Back to the sexy where she belongs this was an amazing routine. I especially loved the gliding across the floor on her back and the abrupt sudden movements… hot!

    Cody
“Missin’ You” Trey Songz - Trey Day (Bonus Track Version) - Missin You – Tre Songz

The problem with Cody is that his hip hop is smooth and natural and looks to come so easy. I think that can be mistaken for lack of effort or passion. I believe he HAS the passion and drive and effort, but he is just so talented his solo’s appear relaxed. I hope this doesn’t land him in the bottom

    Emanuel & Melanie

    1. Contemporary (Ballet parts) with Sabrina Matthews
“The Scientist” Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head - The Scientist – Coldplay

What great lines. It was a beautiful routine though I felt the pairing was a bit off. The judges really emphasized how well Melanie did while playing hard ball with Emmanuel. He was injured, he did miss rehersals, he did fairly well all things considered, but also he is a fan favourite mainly because of his background with skating and his familiarity.

    2. Disco with Melissa Williams
“Hush Hush” The Pussycat Dolls - Doll Domination - Hush Hush -Pussycat Dolls

I enjoyed the routine. I feel like Melanie has been in the bottom when she shouldn’t have been before and fear that will occur again. Emmanuel I feel has been in the top when he shouldn’t have been and wonder how Canada will vote this week given he was injured.

    Melanie
“Innocence” Björk - Volta - Innocence – Bjork

I loved this solo. The song choice was so perfect for her movements. She really delivered passion and talent and showcased why she should stick around.

    Emanuel
“Mad World” The Hitmakers - Big Smash Hits - Mad World (as made famous by Adam Lambert) – Adam Lambert

He always looks to glide on ice. I wanted to see more. I worried about his ankle. I feel it is tough to judge or rank someone who is injured. I don’ tknow if people will vote for him based on previous weeks and loving him already or even as sympathy for his injury or if he will finally go home. We shall see tomorrow.

    Jayme Rae & Everett

    1. Mamba with Gustavo Varagas
“En Berransvilla Me Quedo” Joe Arroyo - La Verdad de Joe Arroyo - En Barranquilla Me Quedo – Joe Arroyo

Jayme Rae’s hips were flying and she was sexy as hell even as her costume was falling apart. The kicks, spins, dips and that end flip… wow! Entertaining and amazing. Yes Jayme Rae outshone Everett but that is how it should be and Mia Michaels was correct – HOT A LICIOUS!

    2. Jazz Funk with Nico Archambault & Wynn Holmes
“Sexy Chick” David Guetta - One Love - Sexy Chick (feat. Akon) – David Guetta (feat. Akon)

If Nico’s choreo can’t keep these two out of the bottom 2 I don’t know what can… Nico’s debut as a choreo on the show was AMAZING… I loved it as much as I love him !!! Everett was the perfect geek and Jayme Rae sexy as sexy can be. The story was cute, the moves were amazing it was a well-crafted routine from idea to performance….

    Jayme Rae
“gettin’ in the Way” Jill Scott - Who Is Jill Scott? - Words and Sounds, Vol. 1 - Gettin' In the Way -Jill Scott

Every movement was precise and amazing. I think she should be safe based on her paired routines and solo. She has become quite the superstar.

    Everett
“Stand By Me” Ben E. King - Ben E. King: Anthology - Stand by Me -Ben E King

This guy is entertaining. He makes tap fun again. I can’t keep my eyes off him when he moves and that is a good thing. I think he should be safe.

    Power Rankings

    Girls

    1. Kim
    2. Jayme Rae
    3. Melanie
    4. Tara-Jean

    Boys

    1. Vincent
    2. Everett
    3. Cody
    4. Emanuel

I predict Tara-Jean and Emanuel go Home (Though I kind of sadly think it may be Cody and not Emanuel, I would probably cry if that was true though)

    Do you agree? Disagree? Why?

    We will see Tomorrow Night

Power Rankings – So You Think You Can Dance Canada – Top 14

Last Week’s Power Rankings I predicted 1/3 of the Bottom 3 and one of the two going home.

This week I hope to be more accurate (Hey, the previous week I was 3/3)

Our judges this evening were Dan Karaty, Karen Kain, Tre Armstrong and Jean-Marc Genereux. Dan spoke about how SYTYCD Canada pushes the envelop and keeps getting sexier. Tomorrow Night Blake’s choreographed an “almost too sexy for tv” routine that I can’t wait to see.

    1.Cody & Melanie
    Hip Hop with Luther
“Turnin’ me on” Keri Hilson & Lil Wayne - In a Perfect World... (Bonus Track Version) - Turnin Me On – Keri Hilson ft. Lil Wayne

Yes, they are my favourite couple (though Jayme Rae & Daniel are creeping up a close second lately) but this routine by Luther was HOT! Cody didn’t have what I refer to as “Evan syndrome” (being too cute and innocent) he rocked it hard along with Melanie who was hard-hitting. They were convincing, they were in unison and they were sexy. Best routine of the night in my opinion.

    2. Jayme Rae & Daniel
    Disco with Melissa Williams
“Disco Inferno” The Trammps - Sensational 70s - Disco Inferno -The Trammps

The lifts, the spins, the flips, the bounce, the outfits… it was hot. I don’t know what the heck Dan Karaty was watching but he was not watching these guys dance if he thinks they weren’t “there” When Jayme Rae did those splits in a lift then a spin and flip – holy guacamole – amazing! Disco is face-paced and fun and these guys did a fantastic job and entertained me.

    3. Austin & Corynne
    Hollywood Jazz with John Byrne
“Paparazzi” Lady GaGa - The Fame - Paparazzi – Lady Gaga

I haven’t liked Austin since auditions but that guy can dance. I have liked Corynne since auditions and I am really glad these two are paired, they seem to really connect and I think they will stay out of the bottom 3 again this week. I didn’t like the gun part, it seemed corny but the falls and jumps and that KISS!?! wow!

    4. Natalie & Danny
West Coast Swing with Benji Schwimmer
“Love Lock Down” Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak (Bonus Video Version) - Love Lockdown – Kanye West

I have tried West Coast Swing and this to me was so unlike what I have tried (at a novice level obviously ha ha!) Benji is a genius. There were some amazing flips and complicated patterns but the air worked well together and performed beautifully. (Although I wasn’t a fan of the song – especially after kanye’s lil’ outburst at the VMA’s this past weekend!)

    ———————BOTTOM 3————————-

    5. Tara-Jean & Everett
    House with Sho Tyme
“When Love Takes Over” David Guetta - When Love Takes Over (feat. Kelly Rowland) - Single - When Love Takes Over (feat. Kelly Rowland) – David Guette

I don’t want to put these guys in the Bottom 3 but it’s a close call with Natalie & Danny / Tara-Jean & Everett. It was very fast, it was entertaining, it truly was body versus feet as Dan Karaty said. I enjoyed it but something about Benji’s routine made it stand out slightly above this one and so here we are with our Bottom 3 predictions.

    6. Kim & Emanuel
    Contemporary with Stacey Tookey
“To Build a Home” The Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur - To Build a Home – Cinematic Orchestra
They seem defeated in the rehearsal clips. With bruises and injuries and struggling with the lifts. It felt like a real bummer just watching. Though they performed well, their outfits were boring, it was slow and seemed to just drag on for me. Near the end it pick ed up and they gave it some life but I just felt like it fell short.

    7. Amy & Vincent
    Cha Cha with Gustavo Vargas
“Rie y llora” Celia Cruz - Regalo del Alma - Rie y Llora – Celia Cruz

It was fun and sexy and cute but it didn’t stand out much compared to other routines this evening. it was quirky but just nothing spectacular in my opinion.

Assuming my Bottom 3 are correct (and it is so hard to tell at this point) I would predict that Amy & Vincent go home… ooh I dunno…. everyone deserve to be where they are on that stage… so sad to send people home each week.

    Can’t wait for Blake’s routine tomorrow 🙂

Blake McGrath Judge on So You Think You Can Dance Canada

I must admit that I didn’t see the first season of So You Think You Can Dance. If they ever brought out So You Think You Can Dance on DVD, then I’d probably get it and watch it. I guess I could probably search online and download it too.

For the other few million that missed the first season, you’ll be interested as I was to know that Blake McGrath had a run in with Dan Karaty the choreographer.

He all but snatched the microphone from Lauren’s hand when she asked about his tough day with Dan, and proceeded to insult Dan, his class, and Dan’s abilities as a dancer. “Personally, I think he’s just jealous of me”

I must admit that I’m really surprised that Blake still made it to the top 6 of season 1 after being so cocky and arrogant. America usually hates that and makes them pay in the voting.

Well, the producers of So You Think You Can Dance must have gotten over it quickly, because Blake is going to be a judge on this season’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

Here’s a look back at Blake McGrath’s first audition on season 1 of So You Think You Can Dance:

Since the US version of So You Think You Can Dance is over until next summer, I decided it’s time to turn our attention to some of the various international So You Think You Can Dance shows.

The judges are Tré Armstrong and Jean Marc Genereux with host, Leah Miller. You’ll also get to see alternating Third Judges: Blake McGrath (US SYTYCD Season 1) and Luther Brown. The following guest judges are also scheduled to appear: Paul Becker, Mary Murphy, Dan Karaty, Rex Harrington, Melissa Williams, and Sean Cheesman.

A few quick quotes about So You Think You Can Dance Canada:
“We were amazed at the diversity of dancers we found in each of our audition cities,” said Executive Producer Sandra Faire. “They inspired us with their passion for dance and their determination to become Canada’s favourite dancer. We know viewers will fall in love with them!”

“During the inaugural audition tour, the feedback from the judges and choreographers was that Canada’s crop of dancers was absolutely phenomenal,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc.

“Canada has some of the best dancers on the planet!” says U.S. So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy

    Other Good News for SYTYCDC:
Putting its best foot forward, CTV announced its biggest promotional campaign ever for a television series on the network. Beginning September 1, CTV will roll out an extensive national multi-platform promotional campaign supporting the highly-anticipated premiere of So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

    Personal Thoughts
I can tell you from my experience on this blog that no one is more passionate about So You Think You Can Dance than Canadians. I’ve pissed off more than a few canadians with my comments and they are happy to give it right back. I love them for it.

Of course, as always we’ll be trying our best to post all the So You Think You Can Dance Canada music once the shows start in September. In the meantime, you can go back and see the list of US SYTYCD music.
