Top 8 Results Thoughts and Discussion

My live thoughts and yours, too. Excited to see what All-Stars we’ll have next week. I just realized that Jaimie Godwin was supposed to be an All-Star this week and I guess she was replaced by Allison. I must’ve missed something – did they explain why Jaimie wasn’t on last night? Maybe they’ll say something tonight.

LOOOOOVED Tyce’s Top 8 routine! It’s routines like this that remind me what he’s capable of and make me even more annoyed with his lackluster choreo. It had hints of Wade and Sonya and was just so fun and cool and was a great opportunity for the dancers (especially Jess, as the ringmaster).

I also love Cat’s dress, especially the sleeves. Gorgeous.

Rob Marshall really nailed it when he said that SYTYCD puts dancers back in the center of attention, rather than in the background. That’s what I love about the show, too. Or at least part of it.

It’s cruel that they went to break without saying which of the four girls is in the bottom! Fine, keep us on edge, but soooo mean to the dancers.

Spoiler space for the rest…

Well, I was right about the girls. Melanie and Sasha are safe and Caitlynn and Jordan are in the Bottom Four.

Oh my gawd, I almost lost it watching that little clip of Marko’s mom hugging him backstage. I think he almost lost it too, judging by his face when they went to him on stage. Not surprised Marko’s safe and Jess is in the bottom, but I have to say I loved Jess peeling off his shit as he strolled off stage. Okay, I kinda like him a tiny bit more and more each week. 🙂

I *am* surprised that Rickey is safe and Tadd is in the Bottom 4, but maybe I shouldn’t be after some of your comments lately that he seems arrogant. I don’t see it myself, but apparently enough people do to put him in danger.

LXD always makes my day. It was nice to see Christopher Scott dancing on the SYTYCD stage, too. And, am I crazy or was that Ashley Galvan in the line of dancers?

The National Dance Day segment was really fun.

Jordan’s solo was her best, I think, but the leg extensions were still prominent, of course. Jess’s solo was full of character and entertaining. BUT, I thought Caitlynn really danced her best solo yet and that it was better than Jordan’s. I hope the judges agree and keep her! Tadd’s was clearly the best, full of character and performance. Love the song, love the tricks, love the whole attitude. He has some of the best solos.

Liked Lady Gaga’s performance, but most especially seeing Mark dancing with her so prominently.

Whew! Glad Caitlynn is safe. I thought Nigel was really respectful and nice to give such a positive build up to cutting Jordan. I’m surprised the judges could bear to cut Jess, but Tadd really earned it with his solo. He threw everything he had onto that stage.

The goodbye sequences made me realize two things
-I liked some of Jordan’s performances more than I remember (the bed hip hop with Tadd namely)
-I warmed up to Jess right as he was leaving.

They never announced the All-Stars for next week. Hmmm….

What do y’all think??

Season 8 Top 8 Results Music

Odds are, Lady Gaga will be a better musical performer than last week’s Blush. Excited to see what music we’ll have tonight, all around.

Season 8 Top 10 Thoughts and Discussion

SOOOOOO extremely happy to see Neil Patrick Harris as the guest judge. I adore him and I’m not surprised he’s a fan of the show or of Cat Deely. She cracked me up when she said, “You’re not popular at all,” after all the cheering for Neil and then told Nigel the audience didn’t have any energy left for him. Lol.

My live thoughts follow, so I guess I’ll put in a spoiler space here…

SYTYCD Season 7 Finale Part 2 Music

Well…on the discussion post, I said that I might have to flip back and forth between the SYTYCD finale and the first Saints pre-season game. Well, the good news is that I won’t have to flip back and forth. The bad news is that my local FOX channel has pre-empted the SYTYCD finale in order to show the first Saints pre-season game. I won’t be able to see the show till 10:30 local time.

You have to understand that little else matters in New Orleans during football season. We love our Saints. Though, I’m a little ticked off with them at the moment.

My mom lives in Atlanta, so she’s gonna help me out with the music. If you can see the show and would like to help me, please do. 🙂

Choreographer: Christopher Scott from LXD
Song: My mom says it was Nation Lanier’s “Ra,” but I can’t find them on iTunes, so help me out if we got it wrong. Ha! Marianya just said it’s NATHAN Lanier’s “Ra,” which isn’t on iTunes, so try is “Invisible Children Theme” – Invisible instead. I know it’s not the same, but enjoy anyway. 🙂

SYTYCD S7 E4 Vegas Week Ends Thoughts

Maybe you’re all talked about this past week’s episodes, but it took me a while to catch up with them because of work and I still have my thoughts. Hope you don’t mind, hope you find this interesting.

-Ida Saki withdraws: I can totally understand her feeling like she has to leave and I thought she was humble and respectful when she expressed this to the judges. While I do agree with them that some of her motivation might have been not being *great* at something for the first time, I feel like they, and especially Nigel were extremely and inappropriately hard on her. Maybe this was a dramatic set-up to build tension if/when she comes back next season. Who knows.

-Alex’s spins in Tyce’s choreography were…wow.

-I’m sorry, but I didn’t really like Giselle Peacock’s dancing. I was surprised I didn’t, because so many people are pulling for her here on the site.

-Was Travis wearing a League of Extraordinary Dancers t-shirt during his choreography round? 🙂

-Wow, Cristina! I thought she was amazing dancing with two contemporary dancers and holding her own.

-I thought the judges’ “arguing” was kinda false – and loud on purpose – to build tension. Blech.

-I really hope Nicole Knudson comes back next year.

-Laughed when Adam said, “It could’ve been a mess, instead it’s a yes.

-I loved when Cat threatened to kick Kent’s ass because of his self-doubt. 🙂

-And wow, those three guys! Anthony Burrell (his thighs!), Alex Wong and Kent Boyd. I’m even more sad that Anthony’s not in the Top group after this performance. Will he come back? Will he use the SYTYCD platform and exposure to do something great and soon?

-I was amused by Kent’s speech to the judges about dancing with Anthony and Alex. Reminded me of Paul in A Chorus Line.

-I loved that the Top 24 got a “training reward” since there wasn’t going to be an official Top 20. Grover Dale seemed to be an amazing reward with them and they did seem kinda refreshed/inspired after.

-Wish we could’ve seen more of the solos cause I loved the ones we did see. Also, the “tell us why you deserve Top 10” element REALLY reminded me of A Chorus Line.

-Loooved Toni’s dress when she went to tell Cristina she’s in the Top 10. The fake-out was kinda mean. I loved that Pepe’s family is so supportive of Cristina.

-I really, really liked Adrien Lee and I felt like we didn’t get to see much of him till the end. Then, it was a no from Mary. I was sad. I hope he comes back next season. Also, I thought seeing her back mic was really tacky, as was her trying to talk to him and comfort him when his family was trying to console him.

-Nigel was brutal with his no’s on the phone. At least from the clips we saw, especially Lexie’s.

-Lauren is really funny and I liked that Nigel was outside when they didn’t think he was coming. Carol the letter carrier was a little odd – I kept wondering if she was going to come in and then why she didn’t. It would’ve been cute if Carol celebrated the good news with the family. After the inevitable fake out, I laughed so hard when LoFro said, “Oh my god, Nigel.”

-Mia’s visit with Anthony felt like one of the realest things on the show. Intense. I hope he gets just how much we all love him and that we really do want to see him on the show. Her face when he said, “I really want this” and she knew she had to say no….

-Tyce living it up in Miami was pretty jarring after the frankness of the previous scene.

-I liked Lil C’s fake out with Ashley, and that she’s his favorite.

-Wow, more brutal Nigel phone calls from Columbus. Then the damn sports car segment.

-Tyce having fun in Miami felt more amusing (rather than jarring) this time.

-I looooved that Melinda took the visit at her mentor Harold Cromer’s place. I loved the oddness and sweetness of her relationship with him. Also laughed when Mia said Melinda’s dancing could be “a little crunchy” sometimes. And Harold’s endorsement of Melinda. I bet after the cameras were off, those three had some drinks and Melinda soaked up a lot of phenomenal dance stories, between Harold and Mia.

-I did laugh that Nigel got lost and called Mary, an Ohio native, from Marysville, but called it Mary’s vile.

-Wow, Alex’s fellow dancers freaked out when they got the good news. And they were clearly star-struck by Tyce. I thought that was cool.

-The Billy/Robert decision felt kind of scripted to me. But maybe only because I’d already read SYTYCDism’s spoilers and knew what was coming. As I’ve said, sometimes I like Billy’s new swagger, sometimes I don’t. I thought it was sweet that Robert was clearly about to give up his spot cause he thought Billy deserved it more. And it was cool the way Robert/Billy told their fellow dancers. 🙂 And yeah, I think it’s pretty clear Billy did use the f-word when he said, “Adam, you’re __ awful.”

So, that’s my thoughts for the last of Vegas Week and the Home Visits. About to post my Thoughts for the Meet the Top 11 Episode, so check that out, too.

SYTYCD At The Academy Awards!!

Former SYTYCD dancers have been tweeting about the Oscars for a while (as has Adam Shankman), so I was prepared to look for them. There were stunning performances to the nominated songs. The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers were amazing! I only managed to recognize Kayla dancing during the regular telecast (she was very prominent), but after watching Rickey’s video, I was able to identify more dancers – Kathryn, I’m pretty sure, and definitely Travis Wall. Among others that I’m sure you’ll catch. As always, Ricky has a great video from the Oscar performance, so check it out!

Rickey has a still of a Kupono sighting (HOW did he get that seat?!) and I think Kupono summed up Oscar night best via Twitter:

alohakupono

OSCARs was ABSOLUtELY RiDiCULOuS!!!! Now it’s off to the AFTeR PARtY for SCANDaLS of the YEAR!!!!!! 40 minutes ago via mobile web

But y’all, there is SO MUCH cool chatting happening on Twitter, you have to check out all your favorite dancers via John’s SYTYCD list.

I found some great videos for you. First, a “Meet the Choreographers” video with Adam and both Kayla and Travis as assistant choreographers. And a slew of fun audition videos, including a “Behind the Screen” one.

Yay to Adam for making his SYTYCD dancers so prominent at the Oscars. I hope he produces again!

SYTYCD Top 10 Results Thoughts

Well…no Season 5 Top 10. Sorry for that one, y’all. My bad. Must be next week. I’m a bit bummed after tonight’s show. Not just the results, but also finding out there are only two more weeks of Season 6. The finale is going to be between 6 dancers, which seems a bit…much… The results are going to be very strange, I think, because we won’t have gotten to see them dance as many routines over an extended amount of time like in previous seasons. And how long is this finale going to be? Cause if it’s only 2 hours with 6 final dancers… that seems really unfair and like a total gip, really.

As for the rest of my thoughts…
