NEW PureSYTYCD Pages Added!

So in honor of the first couples performances of the season I created a series of pages for your reference that I will update as each week goes by. These pages are the breakdown of the dances as done on the show week by week. Right now ere are only pages of the various couple dances but hopefully soon I will have a breakdown of the various group dances during the performance episodes and the result shows in the past.

First there are six new pages that categorize all the different dance styles as shown on the show into six categories. Within these pages you can find all the individual dance styles related within the page broken down by choreographer. Here you could find out exactly what each choreographer has choreographed and what week:
Partner Dances: these include all Ballroom/Latin related dances as well as partnered social dances like the salsa, disco, and country two-step.

Contemporary / Ballet: this page includes all contemporary, lyrical and ballet pieces as shown on the show.

Jazz: aside from jazz, all jazz-fusion dance routines are also placed here ranging from Latiin-Jazz to Afro-Jazz.

Hip Hop / Freestyle: the genre known to have grown from the streets, this page includes all dance styles that related to the hip hop / freestyle world at large. This page also includes Waacking, Popping, Break Dancing.

Broadway: the dance styles that most relate to the Great White Way, which includes the Broadway style, Tap, and Rock N Roll.

Cultural: since the introduction of Bollywood in Season 4 there have been other dance styles that have tied to any specific culture throughout the world.

Granted this would be considered a rough categorization of all the dance styles as portrayed on the show, but at the same time I think the lines (as thinly drawn as some of them are) are strong enough to distinguish them for the most part. From the above categories I broke down each individual season by week to show how the spread is portray over the course of the seasons as well as an overall look from across the series thus far: Couples Breakdown.

As I said earlier, all of the above pages will be updated as each episode airs on Wednesday evening. Tis way we could all see how the current season would pan out in comparison to past seasons.

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

Introducing The Weekend Forecast

Ever wonder what Season Two winner Benji Schwimmer has been up to lately. Well if you follow him on twitter you would know that he is a part of a  band, the lead singer to be exact. The bands first single is called “Right” and I posted the music video below. I like it the song is pretty catchy and it has a great message. So enjoy and show Benji some love on twitter @BenjiSchwimmer.

Dance is one of my biggest passions. I grew up dancing at Augusta West Dance Studio (the same studio that Kathryn McCormick). I have a BFA in theatre/dance from Valdosta State University. Tap is my favorite style of dance.

Courtney Galiano and Shane Sparks Judge Knicks City Dancers Tryouts

UPDATE: Check out pictures and video from the Knicks City Dancers tryouts.

Courtney Galiano and Shane Sparks
The Knicks City Dancers are officially holding open auditions for those wanting to dance for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Courtney Galiano, former Knicks City Dancer and of course a “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant, will be sitting next to Shane Sparks at the auditions. They will be watching the talent that will fight for a spot on the Knicks City Dancers squad.

Auditions for Sunday, June 28th @ Madison Square Garden! Get more information on the auditions at the Knicks City Dancers website.

It makes a lot of sense for Courtney Galiano to be there as a judge for the Knicks City Dancers. She was one before and is a great dancer. I’m not exactly sure why they have Shane Sparks as a judge. Not that I blame Shane. Sounds like a great job to me.

Just call me Charlie...but where are my angels?

Courtney Galiano and the Knicks City Dancers

I always love when I find some interesting updates about some of my past favorites from So You Think You Can Dance. Courtney Galiano has to have been one of the most gracious dancers to have ever graced the So You Think You Can Dance stage. There was something wonderful about her innocence.

Today, one of Pure So You Think You Can Dance readers pointed me to a post on The Monitor (a blog about Madison Square Garden) that had some great videos about Courtney Galiano.

Check out this video of Courtney talking about being a Knicks City Dancer alumni, New York, Madison Square Garden and So You Think You Can Dance. It also has pictures of Courtney reunited with Gev for a performance at Madison Square Garden.

I have to admit that I feel like a bit sad that I didn’t know that Courtney was previously a Knicks City Dancer. I should have known that, but I didn’t. Oh well, better late than never.

Here’s another nice interview of Courtney Galiano talking about her experience on So You Think You Can Dance.
Anyone else have information on what Courtney Galiano’s working on since being on the show? I’d love to hear an update. Feel free to leave a comment or send me the info on the contact Pure So You Think You Can Dance page.
