SYTYCD Canada Cancelled

After one of the most fantastic seasons yet, the Canadian version of SYTYCD has been cancelled by CTV.

Hours after crowning Jordan Clark the Season 4 winner, the announcement was made official, this would be the last season of SYTYCD Canada.

“I can confirm that we are not ordering a fifth season of the series,” Scott Henderson, vice-president of communications for Bell Media told CityNews.ca.

“After four seasons and 92 episodes, CTV has decided to pursue other program strategies. This decision was made after careful consideration, including viewership and economic factors. We remain extremely proud of the legacy of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, including raising the profile of dance in this country,”

Fans are outraged, and they are not alone. Judges, choreographers and dancers alike are all in shocked and disappointed at this news.

Jean-Marc Genereux tweeted:

Dear Fans @SYTYCDCanada.no regrets! you were the best fans in the WORLD..SHOW is gone! But NOT your passion for DANCE,it’s a CTV decision!
You will hear all kinds of reasons!!! But you know what!!! Canada loved his DANCE SHOW and I’m sure the fans will react!!!

@TreArmstrong tweeted:

“Wow…honestly can’t believe #SYTYCDCanada has been cancelled,” Armstrong said Tuesday. “So disappointing for Canada & our amazing talent. Best season EVER! Love You.”
“Hope that #SYTYCDCanada comes back to live once more…thank you for 4 great seasons,” Armstrong wrote Tuesday. “The network, production, crew & talent, love u all.”

Luther Brown tweeted:

Its sad that the show has ended but God is good and we were all blessed to be apart of Canada’s best show! We went out with a bang!!!

Stacey Tookey tweeted:

I’m so sad to hear about the cancellation of SYTYCDC but I am so proud to know a group of people with that much talent & heart!! Love u all!

For me this is sad news. Granted I still watch SYTYCD USA, but there was something special about our Canadian SYTYCD and I am sad to see that go.

A part of me hopes that it will somehow survive, but only time will tell. There are a number of petitions and complaints going on to try and save the show. In the past, I know when a company cancels something, it is usually a done deal, but you never know!

How do you feel about this news?

Announcing the Winner:

Leah reminds us of prizes:
$5000 for 4 runner’s up
$10000 and a car for 1st runner up
$100000 and a car for winner.

Canada voted 1.6 million times

Christian, Lindsey, Shane are not in the top 2.

Matt is not in Top 2.

Melissa and Jordan remain… we are not surprised are we?

They both won cars… but there can only be one winner and it is…. Jordan Clark!

All of them are really winners… not just the money or cars, but the exposure they have had and the talent they have shown – I expect big things from all of them in the future 🙂

Overall Thoughts:

I am so thrilled Jordan won. I was rooting for her since auditions and think she is amazing.

I thought for a while Melissa may beat her because she showed such diversity and skill.

I also thought Matt somehow may pull (what I would consider) an upset and take it, though I felt Christian was a better dancer and Shane the best male dancer.

I didn’t think a male would win it though, the women were fierce.

Lindsey grew the most for me and I was so impressed with how much she improved and brought to the stage this season!

Congrats to Jordan, I am so proud and thrilled to see that my favourite from day one took it home!

Thoughts on the winner? The finale? The season?

So You Think You Can Dance Finale Special Guest *Spoilers*

Well, I’ve been debating whether to post the “secret” person who will be dancing with Twitch in the place of the injured Alex Wong. Of course, when they say that I’m totally interested to know who it is. Although, the show didn’t really try to hide who it was going to be. They gave it to the various “TV Guide” like sites to have it listed as the description for tonight’s show.

So…now for the SYTYCD Finale Spoilers (you’ve been warned): Read more..

Just call me Charlie...but where are my angels?

Thoughts on Judges Favorite Dances from SYTYCD 5 Finale

Adam Shankman: His first pick a Nappy Tabs hip hop with Phillip and Jeanine. This dance started off the season. We expected Phillip to do well, but Jeanine was the surprise. I agree with Adam when he said this what started her journey. His second pick was Mia’s butt dance. Randy and Evan were a great couple I love watching them together. This was my favorite Mia dance of the season because it was just a fun light hearted piece.

Debbie Allen: Her picks actually surprised me a little bit. First was the Waltz with Auska and Vitolio. This wasn’t my favorite ballroom of the season but what I loved about this routine was the fact Louis based it on Vitolio’s story. It was a beautiful dance. Her second was the top 16 hip hop fusion number. Nappy Tabs and Dmitry really did well putting together a creative number. Very Flashdance like Debbie said with the water on the tables.

Lil C: I love the Bollywood routine with Jason and Caitlin. I thought it was their best routine as a couple. I wish he had two picks I would have loved to know more of Lil C’s favorite dances. Lil C always manages to surprise me, he may be the “King of Krump” but he has an passion for all forms of dance.

Tyce: He may have had only one pick but he chose disco with Brandon and Janette. I love how he had a story of how he had once danced to the same song. In my opinion it was the best disco of the season.

Mia Michaels: Her first pick was another dance from the first show. Max and Kayla’s samba. This was a favorite for me in the fact we got to see Max do what he does best, I was a little disappointed that he didn’t stick around longer. Her second pick was no surprise to me. Tyce’s routine about breast cancer touched her in a way it didn’t for many of the viewers (or at least the one on here). I am looking forward to seeing this dance the way the judges did…without all of the close ups.

Mary Murphy: Her first pick was also my favorite of the entire season, Travis’s routine. It was also the first time that Jeanine and Jason had their own style, and both showed America what they could do. I loved it when Jeanine said that the kiss at the end wasn’t part of the choreography, I would like to know who’s idea it was. Also I hope they find another dress for the tour, I think that one has had enough…lol. Jeanine and Brandon’s Paso was her second pick. Even though we had seen it the night before, it was nice to see it again. It was one of my favorites from the night before. It also created one of my favorite quotes from Jeanine.

Nigel Lythgoe: Brandon and Jenette’s Argentine tango was up first. It was a great dance but not my favorite ballroom number that they did together. The salsa was my favorite (the one where Jenette was wearing pink). Mia’s addiction piece with Kayla and Kapono was his second choice. This was also one of my favorites, like so many other viewers. It was an emotional piece for both dancers and you saw it when they performed. Also I laughed when he said Mary admitting that she uses botox, was one of his favorite moments. Anyone else catch what he said about if her jewelry was from a hand mirror that had shattered from all her screaming.

I like seeing the top 8 group number again with the added surprise of the judges joining them on stage. The fact that I was in A Chorus Line in college was part of the reason I like the routine in the first place. I just wish Lil C was up there too. I also glad they brought back the Rage Boys Crew…the little ones are so cute.

There were some others that I really liked that I thought we would have seen on last nights show. Like Wade’s crash test dummies, I liked the concept of this dance. Okay maybe a part of me wanted to see how long it would take that little dog to cross the Kodak stage…well not really it was a cute prop. Also I loved his dance for the top four, allowing all the dancers to play a character. I actually wanted to watch more of the rehearsal process just to watch Wade dance. Shane Sparks zombie hip hop is another one I thought we would see. Speaking of hip hop the second Nappy Tabs hip hop that Phillip and Jeanine did with the chain was another on that I liked. I still don’t understand how that landed them in the bottom three that week. Oh and Brandon and Kayla’s Broadway from last night was just wow…I so want to see that one again.

I’m sure I left some out but I can’t wait to see which ones make the tour show.

SYTYCD Top 4 Routines You Hope to See

I’m going to steal part of another great comment from Christine to talk about the routines you’d like to see from the SYTYCD top 4. Here’s the routines Christine lists that she’d like to see from the So You Think You Can Dance top 4.

Kayla Brandon: Paso Doble
Kayla Evan: Lyrical Jazz
Jeanine Brandon: Contemporary or even Bollywood. (As much as I like the soft hip hop by Jeanine, I have a feeling Brandon will dance too hard and will lack connection with his partner.)
Jeanine Evan: BROADWAY or even west coast swing if they can pull that off without pulling their face too much (bring Benji back!) … but I have a feeling it might be some waltz or if Evan can just keep his frame straight)
Brandon Evan: hmm…not sure yet. Broadway is the only thing i can think of that’s broad enough (no pun intended) to incorporate their strengths
Jeanine and Kayla: Hip hop might be interesting here and Contemporary would be battle of technique and strength. (This pairing makes me worried for Jeanine because I feel like Kayla could definitely outdance her depending on the choreography. If this was a Wade Robson routine, it would take both acting and skill to make it a great piece where I think Jeanine might outshine Kayla. It’s just whether or not their connection with each other and to the audience will be achieved)

Top 4 dance: Something with a lot of power. I have a feeling these are amongst the Strongest dancers we’ve had. Chuck full of muscles from top 6 and down.

Personally, I don’t have many preferences for this one. My only thought would be that I’d love to see Brandon and Evan do a Krump battle of some sort. Put Lil’ C with the cliche broadway white boy and the muscular black boy and I think they could create a pretty entertaining Krump battle. I mean the difference between what Brandon and Evan would do would be hilarious and great to watch I think.

What styles would you like to see from our top 4?

SYTYCD Spoiler: So You Think You Can Dance Finale Location

American Idol Season 5 Finale - Arrivals

I just got word from one of the Pure So You Think You Can Dance readers about the location of the So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 finale. This reader told me that the SYTYCD finale will be held at the famous Kodak Theatre. Yes, the home of the Academy Awards and former home of the American Idol finals.

I think this is really exciting news for fans of So You Think You Can Dance. I don’t think they let just anyone use the Kodak Theatre. Not to mention I’m sure there’s a hefty price to pay to use it. I like that Fox and company are investing in So You Think You Can Dance like this. That’s a very good sign.

Just take a look at the picture in this post of Cat Deeley when she arrived on the red carpet at the American Idol Finale. Can you imagine a red carpet of celebrities for So You Think You Can Dance? I don’t think we’re quite there yet, but it’s starting to attract bigger and bigger names it seems.

UPDATE: Someone on Twitter aptly pointed out that Kodak is CLOSED due to construction for Cirque’s new show. Getting them to “reopen” it for SYTYCD is a big deal.

Completing the list of the videos from the SYTYCD finale, here’s all the incredible special group performances. The Wade Robson Cirque Du Soleil video is incredibly unique and different, but the battle between Phil and Rob was the best part of the whole night in my opinion.

So You Think You Can Dance Finale Predictions

Back to our regularly scheduled So You Think You Can Dance programming. It’s time for me to make my predictions for the finale of So You Think You Can Dance 2008. I think that you should really trust my SYTYCD predictions, because I was correct in my top 10 predictions and my top 4.

Of course, they always say to quit when you’re ahead, but I’m living in Las Vegas and so I’ll take the gamble. I will have full disclosure and tell you that my SYTYCD Finale poll did help in my predictions a little.

Here’s my predictions as might be said by Cat Deeley.

Cat Deeley, “The first person leaving us this evening and not continuing on in the competition is…
Twitch
“The next person leaving the competition tonight. Oh man, I hate this, ” Cat Deeley
Courtney Gailano

Cat Deeley, “Out of the thousands who have auditioned and millions of votes counted. We’re down to our final 2. One of you will be America’s Favorite Dancer. Joshua Allen, it’s not you.”
Katee Shean you’re the next champion of So You Think You Can Dance. Katee, you are America’s Favorite dancer.

I think we all know it’s a 2 horse race between Katee and Joshua. I would love for Joshua to win, but I just think that Katee has too much sweetness that will carry her to the win. Either way it will be a well deserved win.

No matter who wins, one thing is for sure: The finale will include some absolutely amazing dancing. I’m really looking forward to it.
