It was extremely hard to pick the winners of the master dance classes hosted by Cliche Cosmetics. I’m glad John had the majority decision, as senior administrator. 🙂

The dancers who won will be able to study with Katee Shean (S4), Melissa Sandvig (S5), Randi Evans (S5), Victor Smalley (S6) and Noelle Marsh (S6) in either Fort Lauderdale, New York City or Los Angeles.

With no further ado, let’s introduce you to the winners.

Fort Lauderdale’s class will be attended by Kat

New York’s class will be attended by Asia

Los Angeles’s class will be attended by Christine

Thank you to everyone who sent in their stories and who continues to dance. We can’t wait to hear how the classes go – congrats Kat, Asia and Christine!

Win Tickets to Master Classes Hosted by Cliche Cosmetics

Cliche Cosmetics is hosting the Summer Dance Series, dance classes taught by SYTYCD alum – Katee Shean (S4), Melissa Sandvig (S5), Randi Evans (S5), Victor Smalley (S6) and Noelle Marsh (S6) –  and they’ve offered us free tickets for our readers!

Here’s the deal. The master classes are designed for intermediate to advanced dancers and will be hosted during August in Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and New York. At least three members of the faculty will teach in each city. Check out all the details here.

We have one ticket per city to give away. So, if you want them, write in the comments below and tell us why we should give the ticket to you. If you win the ticket, you commit to guest-blogging your experiences for PureSYTYCD – and we want pictures!!! Tell us which city’s class you’d like a ticket for. Get our attention with creativity, inspiration and…compliments and bribes always help, too. 🙂 Tell us how much the class will mean to you. Or tell us what a great guest blog you’ll write. Get our attention and you can win a free ticket to a SYTYCD master class in one of these cities!

Katee Shean, SYTYCD 4 second runner up Melissa Sandvig, SYTYCD 5 Top 6 Randi Evans, SYTYCD 5 Top 10 Victor Smalley, SYTYCD 6 Top 20 Noelle Marsh, SYTYCD 6, Top 20

[7.6. Update and disclaimer: I never mentioned our deadline. We need all of your mini-essays by the 15th so we can make our decision before the first class – and already it’s going to be a hard one. I must disclaim – neither Cliche Cosmetics nor PureSYTYCD can pay any travel or associated expenses. We’re combining our efforts to bring you the opportunity to take the class for free, but make sure you’re in the position to get to the class and stay in whichever city you select.]

Emilie’s Top Routines From Season 6

This was hard! There were a lot of routines that were equally good in my mind, so I had to work hard to limit myself to a Top 10. I gave myself 5 extra routines for group numbers that rocked – we had a lot of amazing group work this season, especially when you factor in the Meet the Top 20 episode. I did not consider “fairness” or equal distribution here. So I think you’ll see a lot of the same dancers, which didn’t surprise me, personally.

Paired Routines

1. “Machine Gun” Ellenore/Legacy Travis Wall

2. “Tore My Heart” Ellenore/Jakob Sonya Tayeh

3. “At This Moment” Kathryn/Jakob Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden

4. “Little Green Bag” Pauline/Peter Wade & Amanda Robson

5. “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead” Ellenore/Ryan Travis Wall

6. “2 Steps Away” Kathryn/Legacy Stacey Tookey

7. “Frog Dance” Noelle/Russell Sean Cheesman

8. “Put Your Hands on Me” Kathryn/Ryan Jason Gilkison

9. “Violentango” Ellenore/Ryan Miriam and Leonardo

10. “Put Your Hands On me” Kathryn/Ryan Jason Gilkison

Honorable Mentions (alllllmooooosssst): Kathryn/Legacy’s paso doble, Noelle/Russell’s “A Case of You” contemporary, Noelle/Ryan “Give It To Me Right” hip hop, Mollee/Jakob’s “Ordinary Day” waltz, Ellenore/Jakob “Gotcha” Broadway, Ashleigh/Jakob “Whatcha Say” hip hop, Ariana/Peter’s “Black and Gold” hip hop, Bianca/Victor’s “Wasted Time” contemporary, Ellenore/Russell paso doble, Kathryn/Russell hip hop (both finale).

Group Routines

1. Top 20 “Comanche” Wade & Amanda Robson

2. Top 12 “What’s a Girl to Do” Nappytabs

3. Top 14 “Aha!” Wade & Amanda Robson

4. Top 16 “Warrior” Dave Scott

5. Ariana, Channing, Jakob and Nathan “Cryin'” contemporary Tyce Diorio

These were my standouts, the routines I’d expect on a tour (with the exception of those who didn’t make the Top 10). What were yours?

Top 12 Power Rankings

Okay, I’m taking over for Emilie tonight, so this should be interesting. I had originally planned to watch the show with Kathryn’s familiy, friends, dance teachers (who were my dance teachers too). However, due to other things, I will have to wait till next week. Hopefully we will see Kathryn in the top 10. It’s going to be a fun packed show with 12 dances and I’m going to give my thoughts on all the couples and their perfomances. Then I will attempt to rank them some how.

Ellenore and Ryan: 1st dance-Lindy Hop: So happy to see this style back on the show. Adam was right it was a great way to start the show. To be honest I couldn’t think of a better couple to perform this dance, at least for me.
2nd dance-Broadway: Loved this, the performance was fabulous. The best dance for these two for me some far.

Kathryn and Legacy: 1st dance-Jazz: Had to to be one of my favorite Sonya dances since the Garden. Loved that this really showcased her technique and she was able to use Legacy’s b-boy skills. 2nd dance-Vienesse Waltz: I felt like the story that was being told was their story. For me the Vienesse Waltz is always beautiful and I love watching it.

Karen and Victor: 1st dance-Tango: This was good for me and for the first time they have dance together, not to shabby. 2nd dance-Hip Hop: I actually liked the hip hop better than the tango. They had moments they were out of sync but I like the lyrical hip hop, so I didn’t quite agree with the judges on this one.

Molle and Nathan: 1st dance-Hip Hop: It was a cute routine, perhaps too cute on Mollee’s part. Overall a good dance and the dance wouldn’t be complete without Nathan ripping his pants. 2nd dance- Can Can: I agree the best couple to perform this dance. Was anyone else surpised that it was Tyce behind the choreography? I was, mainly because I thought there would have be another new choreographer. Just fun dance and I still can’t get the music out of my head.

Noelle and Russell: 1st dance-Samba: For me this dance was okay, I didn’t expect the review they got would be as good as it was. Their performance was the best part of the routine for me. 2nd dance-Contemporary: Their best dance of the night. I’m with Nigel I am starting to forget that Russell is a street dancer. You know the kinda remind me of Katee and Joshua, Katee was in the footage.

Ashleigh and Jakob: 1st dance-Lyrical Jazz: Another great Soyna routine. What else can you say about Jakob other than flawless. Also Ashleigh has continued to keep up with him and the have a great partnership. 2nd dance-Cha Cha: A role reversal for these two. So happy that Ashleigh was able to dance her style and Jakob kept up with her as I expected him to.

My top 2
Ryan and Ellenore
Kathryn and Legacy

middle 2
Ashleigh and Jakob
Russell and Noelle

bottom 2
Nathan and Mollee
Karen and Victor

So there you have it just my opinion of the night. It’s so hard to really tell who will be going home but for me I’m thinking it might be the end of the road for Victor and Karen. So vote for you favorite, I know I am time for me to put about fifty votes in for Kathryn and Legacy.

Dance is one of my biggest passions. I grew up dancing at Augusta West Dance Studio (the same studio that Kathryn McCormick). I have a BFA in theatre/dance from Valdosta State University. Tap is my favorite style of dance.

SYTYCD Top 12 Performance Thoughts

Hey SYTYCD fanatics. I’ll unfortunately be unable to blog this week and might even miss seeing the shows entirely! If I can watch the shows, I’ll probably post something, but it’ll be much later than usual. I’m counting on you to fill me in about the show and tell me everything you think in the comments, as it may be the only way I’ll get to experience the shows this week. :'( If you feel especially brave, maybe you’ll risk predicting the Top 10 in a power ranking type fashion. (Amanda? Here’s your chance!) John will post the music, though it may be later than usual as he’s in Las Vegas and not East Coast-ish like me. 🙂 Feel free to comment on the music as well and we’ll put up iTunes links as always. So sorry for this disruption and I hope you have fun discussing the Top 12 performance episode.

SYTYCD Top 14 Power Rankings

I just don’t know HOW I’m gonna do this. Well, before I do, here’s a break to protect the eyes of those who don’t wish to have the show spoiled…

Top Four Couples:

1. Kathryn and Legacy had the best routine of the night, in my opinion. Kathryn smoldered tonight in a well-rounded and strong way. She was amazing, both supportive of her partner and entirely self-confident and independent. She had a great routine, great chemistry with her partner and great dancing. Legacy really impressed me (and I’m sure others) tonight with not just his abs (where was he hiding THOSE?) but his really strong dancing. This routine had charisma and character and story, strong music and strong dancing.

2. Elleanor and Ryan had it all tonight as well. If any routine could compete with the paso doble above, it’d be this new memorable routine from Travis Wall. Ryan’s a strong dancer, but Elleanor is the quiet start to me. She dances so completely unique and I’m glad that Nigel pointed out how the choreographers feel about her. I don’t know if she’s as easy to forget as he seems to think she is. I love her.

3. Noelle and Russell have incredibly chemistry. While the foxtrot itself wasn’t the most unique dance, they danced it gorgeously and it was an utter joy to watch because they looked like they were having such an amazing time together. Only thing is, it was early in the night and not everybody loves foxtrot, so that may hurt them…

4. Mollee and Nathan deserved to be in the bottom 3 last week and definitely didn’t deserve to be this week. However, they didn’t have the most powerful routine. It was good, and exactly what they needed to prove they deserve to be here. Their popularity (and strong performance tonight) will continue to keep them safe, I think.

Bottom Three Couples:

5. Ashleigh and Jakob might fall under the same curse, having danced first. Ashleigh might’ve outdanced and outshined Jakob tonight, but I’m not sure she has the following that some of the other girls do. I suspect they’ll both be safe, though. And for the first time, I’m pulling for Ashleigh to stay in cause I’m curious to see what else she’ll do.

6. Channing and Victor had a great, breakthrough performance. I think the distracting song and the strength of the other routines might hurt them. Plus, they were the middle performance, so maybe they’ll be forgotten a bit. They don’t have quite the cemented chemistry and popularity that Mollee and Nathan have, so I think they’ll be here. I don’t think they’ll go anywhere. At least I hope not.

7. Karen and Kevin are in danger. Not only did all three judges call it, but they danced second and their Broadway was the closest thing to an “off” note we had tonight, the weakest routine. I personally enjoyed seeing Karen doing something besides sexy tonight, but I could see that there was something a little off about it. Kevin is my least favorite guy at this point and I think after their bottom 3 status last week, if they land there this week…

Who’s gonna Go:

They’ll be the ones to go. Karen and Kevin, I believe.

This only gets harder and harder. What do y’all think?
