Results from SYTYCD Canada Top 16 becomes 14

Tonight’s episode shocked me horribly.

My #1 routine from last night ended up not only in the bottom 3, but were the two couples sent home!

I can#t believe they got into the Bottom 3, however, given one of their solo’s I knew they would be going home.

Here is how the show went:
Melissa & Christian – safe
Denitsa & Joey – not safe
JP & Geisha – safe (I was shocked!)
Jordan & Shane – now safe (I was shocked!)
Carlena & Adam – safe
Francois & Lindsey – safe
Shelaina & Kevin – not safe (I was shocked!)
Yulia & Matt -safe (I was shocked!)

These voting results had be absolutely stunned!

Onto the solos:

GALS:

Denitsa – “These Boots were made for walking” – Nancy Sinatra

She did well. It was her style, which she excels at, but I have yet to see much else outside of this that wow’s me.

Jordan – “Gorecki” – Lamb

Stunning, beautiful, if she was sent home for this solo, or this week, I think I actually may have stopped watching!

Shelaina

Her solo was pretty weak. While I DO NOT think she should have been in the Bottom 3, based on solo’s alone, her was the weakest. Which is too bad because she is one of my favourites this season and was my favuorite routine last night!

GUYS:

Joey

Amazing, he is so beautiful to watch.

Shane

Another fantastic solo

Kevin

another great solo, all the men were fabulous.

Results:
Shelaina and Kevin were sent home, in what I think is a complete upset!

What do you think? I am still surprised! I hopepeople start voting, I mean Jordan in bottom three? With that amazing routine last night? Shelaina and Kevin? really?

Comment Below – Please, I am dying for others thoughts on this!!!

Oh and sorry for lack of music, I was really in shock and focused on the solo’s not the songs tonigt, my apologies!

SYTYCD Canada Top 16 Performance Show

I am sorry I did not post this last night, but it was a Canadian long-weekend and although I watched the show, I was exhausted from a busy long weekend and didn’t hop on the computer.

But, here is the information from last night’s show. Tonight will be the results show.

Judges: Jean-Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Sergio Trujillo, Dan Karaty.

Francois & Lindsey
Hip Hop – Luther Brown
“Massive Attack” – Nicki Minaj

She was definately harder hitting than him. They were alien robots and they moved very quickly. It was entertaining and fun and should keep them safe, I hope.

Jordan & Shane
Contemporary – Nico Archambault & Wynn Holmes
“Wake Up Alone” – Amy Winehouse

This was a moving piece, not only because of the artist, Amy Winehouse’s recent death, but also because of the choreography. It is no secret how much I adore Jordan, and I am also a huge fan of Nico and Wynn. This piece was really amazing and the way the two moved together was really effortless. Judge Dan Karaty commented on how in past seasons it was aspiring dancers, but how we are spoiled this season with such talented, established dancers. This was one of my favourites of the night.

Yulia & Matt
Quick Step – Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
“Can’t Touch It” – Ricky-Lee

They had good speed, it was good choreography, but overall just an average performance for me. I expected more from Yulia since it was her genre. Great effort, but just sort of fell short unfortunately.

Christian & Melissa
Tango – Tony Meredith and Melanie LePatin
“La Bohemia” – Electro Dub

This has some really nice lifts and flips. It was extremely sexy. I really enjoyed it, and I generally don’t care for the ballroom as much as Contemporary or hip hop.

Geish & JP
House – ShoTyme
“What I Need” – Crystal Waters

This was kind of a hot mess in my opinion. I tlooked chaotic, and not the “controlled chaos” that some routines require. JP looked very feminine in the white wavy pants, which took away form his foot work because they were flapping around his legs. It was a really good effort, you could see them really trying, but it fell short for me as it looked all over the place.

Kevin & Shelaine
Contemporary – Sabrina Matthews
“Rolling Deep” – Adele

The story for this routine, as Sabrina Matthews always has a story, was a man who left his wife for another woman and is now trying to get her back. She is supposed to be angry and Shelaina played the part well. It was very angry and spastic, on the edge of losing control, but still in control (unlike the House piece with JP and Geisha) it was emotional, it told the story well and was really engaging to watch. Probably my favourite of the night, which is saying something because usally Jordan steals that spot!

Denitsa & Joey
Salsa – Gustavo Vargas
“Mirame” – Chivirico Davila

The judges really loved this piece, but I didn’t see it. Of course I am not a salsa expert but to me they wereout of synch, lacked chemistry and their arms were tangled and not fluid. I love Joey and I know Jean-Marc loves Denitsa, so maybe the judges comments were to try and convince viewers they were good and to vote? Besides a nice ending lift I just found the routine to be pretty unimpressive.

Carlena & Adam
Theatre – Sean Cheesman
“Kiss of the Spiderwoman” – Chita Rivera

I always love Sean Cheesman’s choreography. He takes a very unique approach to the music and this routine was no different. I loved Carlena in this, she was fierce! Adam did well also, catching and throwing and supporting Carlena, but she was definately the star! There seemed to be a hiccup with a lift, but no one mentioned it so maybe I am wrong… they really beat up each other in this routine flying and jumping all over. It was supposed to be the battle between the King and Queen in chess – really awesome!!

SO based on that here are my POwer Rankings, feel free to argue. I am going against the judges on a few here so will be interesting if Canada votes with judges or how I think they might.

Top 3:
Kevin & Shelaina
Jordan & Shane
Christian & Melissa

Middle 2:
Carlena & Adam
Francois & Lindsey

Bottom 3:
Denitsa & Joey
JP & Geisha
Yulia & Matt

I know my Bottom 3 were not the judges Bottom 3, so I could be way off, but that is how I felt about the routines – so I am going with my gut. I think JP and Geisha will go home…. even though I thought LAST NIGHT Yulia and Matt were not as good.

We will see later tonight – – – Comments? Leave them below!

Inside the Choreographers mind…

Nico Archambault and Wynn Holmes, Danny Arbour, Mandy Moore and Melissa Williams reveal the highs and lows of their choreographic processes to CTV.

Nico Archambault and Wynn Holmes: Jazz

Nico: We both just love the song “That’s How Strong My Love Is” by Otis Redding.
Wynn: It’s a love story. It’s light. It’s sweet.
Nico: It’s about a new love, fresh love.
Wynn: It was inspired by a great picnic.

Nico: Losing Shelaina was difficult.
Wynn: But she definitely made the right decision. We were excited to work with Tara-Jean again – we just choreographed the (Season 3) promo with her and we just finished working with her. We were totally familiar with each other.
Nico: Because she wasn’t a competitor, she was really calm and supportive, totally relaxed

Mandy Moore: Contemporary

Mandy: The piece is about the power of remembering. I envisioned this man walking in a place he’d been before and everything about it was so familiar – the sights, the smells, everything – and he was able to recall being there with one of his loves, a long-lost love. The beauty of memory is that it comes and goes, and can be just so real. There are certain songs that I can hear and I can instantly remember being 16, driving around with my boyfriend, the blue sky and the wind in my hair. It’s amazing what you can conjure up!

The whole process was just a joy. I love the part in the choreography where he picks her up and I tried to get her to feel like she’s dipping her knees in river water. He picks her up and she dips her knees down and every time my heart just about bursts whenever I see that part.

SYTYCD Season 1 Winner Nico Archambault Marries Wynn Holmes

So You Think You Can Dance Season 1 winner, Nico Archambault married long time girlfriend Wynn Holmes.

Nico and Wynn at the 2009 Juno Awards

CTV Reports:

The 25-year-old, who won the first season of CTV’s “So You Think You Can Dance Canada,” tells The Canadian Press that the pair tied the knot July 10 in Montreal.

Archambault says he prefers to keep the details private but confirms that it was a small, outdoor ceremony and that the groomsmen included “Dance Canada” Season 1 finalist Miles Faber.

Archambault and Holmes have been dating for three years and have their own choreography company called Street Parade.

They’ve also worked together in the dance/rock group the Pinup Saints, in which she’s a lead singer and keyboardist.

Archambault says they haven’t had time for a honeymoon yet as they’ve been choreographing moves for the Quebec dance film “Sur le rythme,” in which he also stars.

He says it’s set to hit theatres in April 2011.

So You Think You Can Dance Canada Power Rankings Top 8

What a night. I can honestly say we have an unbelievable Top 8. And Mia is right, our Top 4 girls are the best i have seen!!!

Last week I predicted who would go home, however it is getting so difficult. I can say who I feel should be in the bottom or who I think Canada will vote for.

Mia Michaels (with a new shaved head), Dan Karaty, Tre Armstrong and Jean-Marc Genereux were judges and we had Nico Archambault debut as a SYTYCD choreographer. It was indeed a special night.

Although during rehearsals there were multiple injuries with Everett suffering from a bleeding nose from a few kicks in the face to Emmanuel’s sprained ankle (and his fingers are still bandaged) but the show must go on – and it did – and it was spectacular!

Top 4 Guys Dance
Jazz with Melissa Williams
“Beggin” The Four Seasons - Jersey Boys - Beggin' – Jersey Boyz

They were not at all in unison, a boy band they are NOT! I did enjoy the solo bits with spins and kicks as well as the overall routine. Vincent stood out for me.

Top 4 Girls Dance
Burlesque in my opinion with Sean Cheeseman
“Dr. Feelgood” Aretha Franklin - Aretha Franklin: 30 Greatest Hits - Dr. Feelgood (Love Is a Serious Business) – Aretha Franklin

This was sexy, hot and amazing. The girls were in sync, each had a chance to shine and the choreography was super seductive. Jayme Rae stood out *slightly* for me but overall the all shone like the superstars they are.

Couples

Vincent & Tara-Jean

1. Rumba with Eric Caty
“Hero” Enrique Iglesias - Escape - Hero – Enrique Iglesias

Maybe it’s the song but I teared up, I was covered in goosebumps and I enjoyed every moment of this amazing routine. The kiss at the end was hot and Mia Michaels was correct, the end bit was very Karma Sutra. I just loved it, Tara-Jean was sexy and Vincent was powerful and I adored every second of this routine.

2. Krump with Lil’ C
“Chea-Chea-Chea” – Tha J Squad

Neither hit it very hard but it was a good effort. Tara-Jean seems to me to be the weakest link of the 4 girls, though even saying that feels wrong because they are all so amazing. Vincent delivered though it was not overly “krumpy” for me.

Tara-Jean
“Farewell” Rosie Thomas - When We Were Small - Farewell – Rosie Thomas

Passionate, Emotional, Pretty. But not sure if her overall effort will get her to next week.

Vincent
“U Can’t Touch This” MC Hammer - MC Hammer: Greatest Hits - U Can't Touch This – MC Hammer

Unique song choice for his genre of dance but he delivered. It was hot, sexy and most importantly ENTERTAINING!

Kim & Cody

1. Hip Hop with Luther Brown
“Humpin’ Around” Bobby Brown - All the Number Ones - Humpin' Around – Bobby Brown

I loved this routine. Mia Michaels called it “dope” and I concur. It was hard, it was hyped, it was a throw back to old school hip hop and they nailed it. Both of them were in their genre and showed they could rock it out.

2. Smooth Waltz with Pierre Allaire
“What a Wonderful World” Louis Armstrong - Louis Armstrong's All-Time Greatest Hits - What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong

This fell flat. It was cute and quirky, I was shocked to see Kim not being sexy… but it was not entertaining and as the judges pointed out it showed poor technique and didn’t deliver.

Kim
“Jerk it” Thunderheist - Thunderheist - Jerk It -Thunderhiest

Back to the sexy where she belongs this was an amazing routine. I especially loved the gliding across the floor on her back and the abrupt sudden movements… hot!

Cody
“Missin’ You” Trey Songz - Trey Day (Bonus Track Version) - Missin You – Tre Songz

The problem with Cody is that his hip hop is smooth and natural and looks to come so easy. I think that can be mistaken for lack of effort or passion. I believe he HAS the passion and drive and effort, but he is just so talented his solo’s appear relaxed. I hope this doesn’t land him in the bottom

Emanuel & Melanie

1. Contemporary (Ballet parts) with Sabrina Matthews
“The Scientist” Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head - The Scientist – Coldplay

What great lines. It was a beautiful routine though I felt the pairing was a bit off. The judges really emphasized how well Melanie did while playing hard ball with Emmanuel. He was injured, he did miss rehersals, he did fairly well all things considered, but also he is a fan favourite mainly because of his background with skating and his familiarity.

2. Disco with Melissa Williams
“Hush Hush” The Pussycat Dolls - Doll Domination - Hush Hush -Pussycat Dolls

I enjoyed the routine. I feel like Melanie has been in the bottom when she shouldn’t have been before and fear that will occur again. Emmanuel I feel has been in the top when he shouldn’t have been and wonder how Canada will vote this week given he was injured.

Melanie
“Innocence” Björk - Volta - Innocence – Bjork

I loved this solo. The song choice was so perfect for her movements. She really delivered passion and talent and showcased why she should stick around.

Emanuel
“Mad World” The Hitmakers - Big Smash Hits - Mad World (as made famous by Adam Lambert) – Adam Lambert

He always looks to glide on ice. I wanted to see more. I worried about his ankle. I feel it is tough to judge or rank someone who is injured. I don’ tknow if people will vote for him based on previous weeks and loving him already or even as sympathy for his injury or if he will finally go home. We shall see tomorrow.

Jayme Rae & Everett

1. Mamba with Gustavo Varagas
“En Berransvilla Me Quedo” Joe Arroyo - La Verdad de Joe Arroyo - En Barranquilla Me Quedo – Joe Arroyo

Jayme Rae’s hips were flying and she was sexy as hell even as her costume was falling apart. The kicks, spins, dips and that end flip… wow! Entertaining and amazing. Yes Jayme Rae outshone Everett but that is how it should be and Mia Michaels was correct – HOT A LICIOUS!

2. Jazz Funk with Nico Archambault & Wynn Holmes
“Sexy Chick” David Guetta - One Love - Sexy Chick (feat. Akon) – David Guetta (feat. Akon)

If Nico’s choreo can’t keep these two out of the bottom 2 I don’t know what can… Nico’s debut as a choreo on the show was AMAZING… I loved it as much as I love him !!! Everett was the perfect geek and Jayme Rae sexy as sexy can be. The story was cute, the moves were amazing it was a well-crafted routine from idea to performance….

Jayme Rae
“gettin’ in the Way” Jill Scott - Who Is Jill Scott? - Words and Sounds, Vol. 1 - Gettin' In the Way -Jill Scott

Every movement was precise and amazing. I think she should be safe based on her paired routines and solo. She has become quite the superstar.

Everett
“Stand By Me” Ben E. King - Ben E. King: Anthology - Stand by Me -Ben E King

This guy is entertaining. He makes tap fun again. I can’t keep my eyes off him when he moves and that is a good thing. I think he should be safe.

Power Rankings

Girls

1. Kim
2. Jayme Rae
3. Melanie
4. Tara-Jean

Boys

1. Vincent
2. Everett
3. Cody
4. Emanuel

I predict Tara-Jean and Emanuel go Home (Though I kind of sadly think it may be Cody and not Emanuel, I would probably cry if that was true though)

Do you agree? Disagree? Why?

We will see Tomorrow Night
