Black Gold Shines Part 4

So, in Part 3, I promised you more surprises and presents, didn’t I?

“What more is there?” you might ask. First, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to each and every one of Black Gold‘s remaining tour dates (thanks to Red Bull Records!). All you have to do is be the first one to ask for them in the comments of the ticket giveaway post.

Then, I posed an interview with Eric Ronick, the lead singer of Black Gold, where he says he’ll moonwalk with all the eliminated SYTYCD dancers if FOX will have Black Gold on the show. Sounds pretty cool to me.

And if that weren’t enough, in Part 3, I posted three (horrible quality on my part, incredible quality on their part) songs from their New Orleans show, including “Shine,” the farewell song on SYTYCD right now.

But that is not all. No, sirree. There’s more.

As part of the Eureka Summer Tour (Rooney, Black Gold, Young Veins), there is a Tweet-for-download offer that I’ve already taken advantage of, so you know it’s easy and free. Just click on the link and check out the widget in the top right corner. You can use that to post on Facebook or Twitter and you’ll get a free download of three songs. “Shine” by Black Gold, “I Don’t Wanna Lose You” by Rooney and “Change” by The Young Veins.

Red Bull Records has also given us a widget where you can stream “Shine” all you want. Check it out:

Enjoy all the presents!!

Black Gold Shines Part 3

Keep in mind that the quality of my dinky camera is very, very poor. But maybe these will whet your appetite and make you want to see Black Gold for yourself.

This is the first song of the set, “Idols”:

This was around the middle of their set and really got the crowd energized, “Breakdown”:

This, of course, is Black Gold’s song “Shine,” Rush which has been appearing on SYTYCD as the farewell song:

There were two more songs after “Shine,” which I didn’t record. After the show, I spent some more time with the band, including Alastair, while Young Veins and then Rooney played. Jason Schwartzman came up to play drums with the band, which includes his brother Robert, of course. He shredded a drum stick, which ended up going home with a girl I met at the show. 🙂

I closed down The Republic with the members of Black Gold and some of Young Veins, but it was soon time for me to turn into a pumpkin since I’d have to be at work in less than 5 hours!

That’s it for my night with Black Gold – but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a few more surprises and presents up my sleeves. Stay tuned!

Black Gold Shines Part 2

Last night, I was lucky enough to catch Black Gold‘s New Orleans appearance with Rooney and Young Veins. It kind of all came together when their label, Red Bull Records, saw all of our talk here on the site and asked if I’d like to meet the band and catch the show.

So, even though I had to be at work this morning at 6:30 a.m. (!) I ventured out to hang with Black Gold and I did not regret it.

Nick, Black Gold’s tour manager, introduced me to lead singer Eric Ronick and even though we’d only just met a few minutes before, we had no trouble being incredibly silly together in this video interview. Forgive all my giggling. It’s Eric’s fault.

The video’s very dark, but I think it does a good job of showing what the venue was like – moody black and red lighting. Just pretend you’re sitting cozy on a leather couch in the merchandise section with Eric like I was last night.

My first experience with bassist Kerry Wayne-James is recorded in the middle of my interview with Eric. A few minutes after this recording, I met percussionist/guitarist/vocalist/song writer Than Luu, though our meeting was regrettably not recorded. It was epic, let me tell you. (I didn’t meet the last band member, Alastair Paxton, till after the show.) After chatting with Eric and Than for a few minutes (during which, they gave me a cd and a t-shirt!), the guys had to make their way to the stage for their performance.

And that brings us to the end of Part 2. Stay tuned!! More surprises later!

Don’t forget to comment to win tickets to the rest of the Black Gold tour dates while you’re waiting to read about the rest of my night with the band. 🙂
