SYTYCD Canada Top 10 Power Rankings
Tonight’s judges were Jean-Marc, Tre Armstrong, Stacey Tookey and Mary Murphy.
Tonight the dancer’s had new partner’s as well as solo’s to perform as we start voting for individual’s not couples this week.I think this will really show us who Canada likes and not mask poor dancers with partner’s who are favourites.
First of all I will do the Ranking of the Coupled Dances:
1. Jordan & Christian
Jazz – Sean Cheesman
“Skin” – Rihanna
*CTV Has more photos that are amazing*
I know not everyone will agree with me but this routine was sexy and amazing. The start with one on each side of the wall yet still in sync, the spins and back flips and all that skin. It was sexy and my favourite of the night, but I think Canada may place them lower than I do.
2. Shane & Melissa
Hip Hop – Luther Brown
“The Time” – Black Eyed Peas
I really loved this routine also, but hip hop sometimes scores lower with Canada’s votes. Melissa got her 6th standing ovation from the judges and she really worked this routine hard.
3. Lindsey & Adam
Contemporary – Blake McGrath
“Remember When it Rained” – Josh Groban
This was an amazing routine. It was my favourite when it came on but after the whole episode I felt stronger about the Hip Hop and Jazz routines, though I could be wrong. Honestly, all three of these routines were just absolutely fantastic!
4. Yulia & Matt
Contemporary – Sabrina Matthews
“My Love” – Sia
I love this song and was impressed with Yulia despite her uncomfortableness with the routine. The fact is, to go further she needs to be able to step outside her genre, and she really doesn’t do that well. Tonight was good, but I think others were better.
5. Denitsa & Francois
Mambo – Gustavo Vergas
“Bemba Colora” – Ceilia Cruz
There were some nice moments and they are both ballroom so it was well done, but it was the first dance of the night, and not that memorable. Denitsa’s scarf didn’t come out and she almost dropped the one Francois threw to her to use. There was great partnering but overall it was just not as memorable or entertaining as the others.
Now for Solo’s, I don’t actually like the dancers in this order at all, but based JUST on what I saw tonight here are my thoughts…
Men:
1. Shane: David Guetta ft. Chris Willis’s “Love is Gone” –
2. Francois: Jackie Wilson’s “Reet Petite” –
3. Adam: The Bee Gees’s “You Should Be Dancing” –
4. Christian: Max Sedgley’s “Happy (Spiritual South Go Happy in Rio Remix)” –
5. Matt: Hedley’s “For the Nights I Can’t Remember” –
Women:
1. Melissa: The Cinematic Orchestra’s “To Build a Home” –
2. Lindsey: Katie Thompson’s “It Doesn’t Hurt” –
3. Jordan: Adele’s “Hometown Glory” –
4. Denitsa: Guem et Zaka Percussion Ensemble’s “Le Serpent”
5. Yulia: Peggy Lee’s “Fever” –
PLEASE comment with your thoughts, I could be way off, but based on tonight’s show this is how I feel. I do not know how the eliminations will go tomorrow, but I will post results tomorrow
Jordan & Christian’s routine was amazingly sexy. In her element, or anything close to it, I think Jordan is the one to beat.
Unfortunately it’s an all around dance competition so I think Melissa or Lindsey will take it.
This is my first time commenting on this season, but I have been watching from the beginning. I have to say I tend to agree with most of your rankings. Clearly the front runners for the girls are Jordan and Melissa, and at this point choosing between them is very tricky. This week, I will give the overall nod to Jordan, but it’s the first week I have said that in about 4 weeks. As for the men… Personally I think Christian should be the front runner. He continues to impress wi the ease at which he partners and does lifts. Clearly he is the strongest partner to me, but overall Shane may edge him out with his ability to perform solo. I felt yulia had her best week this week and truly impressed me while way outside her comfort zone. I this denitsa should be leaving this week for the girls and anyone but Christian or Shane for the guys.
@technopoet, i agree with you about the guys who should be leaving this week. but i’m tied between yuliya and denitsa. either one has to go home tonight, as lindsey, jordan and melissa are incredible, incredible dancers. are they still doing bottom three? if they are, here’s what i think will be the bottom;
girls
1. yuliya
2. denitsa
3. jordan ?… i really hope not, but as there needs to be 3…
guys
1. christian
2. matt
3. francois
all the routines were very well danced, and i’m wondering which ones canada will not respond well to. shane i think is the strongest guy left. he seems really sweet, too. yuliya WAS way out of her comfort zone and did a very good job with it, but i feel like it’s taking her too long to actually get comfortable out of her genre.
I’m happy Yuliya went home, because Denitsa deserves to be there, and I think she has what it takes to win. She did contemporary, and hip hop and she killed them, especially her contemporary with matt and for the rest, she’s a natural. as much as melissa and jordan are good dancers, they can’t pull off any style of ballroom like denitsa, they’re great contemporary dancers but they won’t be able to shake those hips and have the inner fire when dancing any type of ballroom dance. at this point they’re all good, but denitsa has such a nice stage presence, she’s graceful, sweet and very talented and never once have i seen her get mad when she gets sent to the bottom three, she’s always smiling and she has so much charisma, she attacks every dance with passion 🙂
I just watched the performances and I mostly agree with your power rankings. Can’t wait to find out which guy went home. I know which girl left since I just read all the comments on this post. :)-
Oh my goodness with that Sean Cheesman jazz! That might be one of the sexiest routines I’ve ever seen!

I liked Jordan’s solo the most, then Melissa and Lindsay.
I just don’t think the ballroom dancers do enough outside their genres. They’ve done well, and tonight, Yulia’s almost had a wow-factor to it. Unfortunately it was too similar to the Lindsay contemporary to stand out.
And unfortunately for Denitsa, the other ballroom dancer, that mambo didn’t have a big “wow” to it either (like, say, Benji’s and Heidi’s did). I know, I know, this supposed to be more “street Mambo”, but it doesn’t stand up to the other fantastic dances going on.
The guys: Shane is at the top, for me, but like with the US season, I’m gunning for the women (namely Jordan and Melissa). I was gunning more for Francois than Christian because I think he’s more versatile overall, but Christian had a really good night tonight. Matt has yet to really stand out for me.
I think Melissa at this point is my pick. She’s really killed it out of her genre and in her genre I think she’s untouchable, not only in technique, but every guy she dances with dances better when they dance with her.
The most interesting pairing for me will be when Matt finally gets to dance with Melissa. I think all the guys do better with Melissa, and if I’m right, there may be a point where Matt really ups his game. Up until now he’s had a huge fan base to help him.
It only recently came to my attention that Matt never got in the bottom 3. Can anyone explain that? None of his routines have been particularly memorable or tour-worthy. If it’s purely sex appeal, I don’t see it.
He’s got a lot of fans.
Yeah, he must. I’m just wondering why they like him so much?
Oh, he’s a personable guy, the only one from the East coast in the competition, so they do look after their own, and that’s really cool. I think there could be problems with the vote tonight from Quebec and the East coast because of Irene though. Maybe it will effect whether or not he goes further.
Melissa got a standing O every week thus far, yet she was still in the bottom three last week. Shows that anything can and will happen. Also shows how judges comments can swing votes and sometimes with a positive that turns into a neg. With the praise heaped on Melissa, how many people thought she is a shoe in and didn’t vote for her last week. We’ll never know but I am just saying……6 standing O’s. Come On Canada!!!! As JM would say.
